  2. I would imagine shipping would be bloody expensive, but $9k for a M3, damn thats cheap, what sort of condition is it in?
  3. http://www.ltsa.govt.nz/importing/frontal-...bmw-imagery.pdf BMW frontal impact PDF from the LTSA site, its even got pictures. E30 3 series E34 5 series E32 7 series The above three are all flaged as no imports.. bugger
  4. I have a mag of an engine swap Racing Dynamics I think it was did of the V12 into a E36 Compact. The final result still weighed less than a M3 and had a 56/44 or there abouts weight distribution. The reviewer said it was even a very drivable car in cornering and the only problem they had was engine heat soak that overpowered the A/C.
  5. Been looking at the Japan auctions where the guy from aussie that was here got his M3, they got some nice stuff, like 8 series and even a M5 quite cheap for what they are but all LHD I'll have to wait for the right thing to come along when I'm ready to get another bimmer. (See what happens, ya buy one and just want more! )
  6. Just out of curiosity, whats the deal on importing LHD cars, is there a year limit that they dont have to be converted? Do you have to convert? Say the car in question is a M3/M5?
  7. My cars been cloned! Very nice paint

    turbo tips

Thats what I like to hear, I'm starting to smell the signs of a project car come next year.
  9. The one product from the mothers range I really do like is the Preserves Protectant. it makes plastics really nice and wet looking, and also removes the white wax stuff off black plastic, fantastic stuff
  10. Ahh, thats not true, your buying a bimmer!

    turbo tips

What about gearboxes, would a stock E36 5 speed auto or a sotck E30 auto turn to slush when turboing or supercharging?

    navigation system

If you want GPS you'll have to go to something like a Navman product. I'll hopefully be putting a system in in May when the NZ maps are released. I dont know the price on the map software yet. Since I have a PDA you can get a bluetooth GPS receiver for $599 inc gst which uses 3 AAA batts and lasts for 30 hours (or hook it up to yer cars power)
  13. I used Mothers for a bit before chaning to Meguairs. Found that Meguairs broght out the metallic in the paint alot better than Mothers. I'd definately go for Meguairs over Mothers from the results I've seen on cosmos paint.

    Shiny car

Keep in mind the pressure Andrew suggested only puts out 5L/minute according to the website
  15. The impression I got on that when I was talking to a scottish coworker is that it was a legacy thing in the UK, but BMW knew about it and did something about it then. But the bills I've got out of BMW for what I've had done so far which was all minor have been much cheaper than expected. Tho for Christchurch most of the parts come down overnight from Auckland. The things that stood out for me when looking was the windows, and the rubber around those, some of them were naff, some of them were really good. Stitching on the steering wheel & gear knob or any appropriate marks (multiple ring marks on the gear knob). If its leather interior, what sort of wear there is on the drivers seat, that sort of thing. Mechanically, if you find one that you think looks pretty good, definately get it checked out by a reasonable place before paying over your $$, somewhere like BMW or a BMW specialist. If your really paranoid there is also Mechanical Insurance which you can get. Seems to vary in price depening how nice the dealer is.
  16. Yea, they did one as part of the Jackass series, London to St Petersberg and back which had a bit of a BMW 750i. The US one was coast to coast which had large parts of a E36 M3 in it. The next one either this year or next year was somewhere in France, into spain, and back.

And on that note, pros an cons of cleaning your car, is a waterblaster worth getting for people that want it that shiny every weekend? if so what sort?

    M3 CSL

Ahh, that would be the only gearbox that Top Gear said worked right

    M3 CSL

Thats quite dissapointing really, I thought SMG would be the ideal blend of auto/manual but it sounds like it still has a few bugs Also harsh shifts?

    E36 side skirt

I ended up taking it in to BMW to get it all done, since ripping it off would do nasty things to the other clips. But they only charged me $60 for it and gave my car one hell of an awesome clean & polish, to the point of casting 2m square sections of light on fences on the side of the road. Has to go back in to get some heater stuff fixed since they need to remove the entire dash to trace it. Atleast I'll get anothe clean out of it

    M3 CSL

oh, thats a bit of a bugger. I have driven a tiptronic caldina gt-t which was great as far as the gearbox went. Nice and responsive and lots of fun. Never driven a SMG tho. What did they find offputting about them?

    M3 CSL

I like the look of SMG, I'll definately get one when its affordable, dont think I'd be able to sell my E36 tho When did SMG start comming out in things like the 330i?

    Petrol

I only did that once when it decided to not cut out, but that could have been a dodgy pump. I've had more of a problem with underfilling since the pump cuts out at about 56L rather than 60L. However I discovered parking the other direction with the car slightly lower than the back fixed that and it fills to 60L every time. So I guess it was air pocketing on a very slightly sloping ground.
