I have a E36 325i also with sport suspension which is definatley alot more manouverable and whippy than my 525i, but with some decent suspension on the 5 I'm curious to know how it will do. To be honest I've grown quite fond of my E34 since its just such a luxury cruiser. Only my fuel econcomy sucks since the engine isnt top notch, but I'll fix that after I put the v8 in. If you can handle the size and want a luxo-barge cruiser, for me I'd take a 5 series over a 3 series.

Yea, I dont think its worth $10k, there was a very clean 535i manual with kit and everything that the seller wanted $6k for, and that didnt sell either. $6k is about max I would pay assuming its in fantastic condition mechanically and otherwise. Of course it also depends what aftermarket stuff you plan on doing, if like me throwing the engine away in favor of a Lexus V8, you can get an even cheaper one

Thats quite a nice looking 5'er. Definately meets your requirements of a spacious car. I definatley like driving E34's
  4. Does anyone know what sort of cost it is to get custom engine mounts & exhaust headders done? This is not including connecting anything up or ripping the engine out, purely the mounting part.
  5. The 1UZ is less powerful and less torqy, by about 30hp, but thats easily fixable with new cams and individual throttle boddies on the 1UZ. ITB setup only costs $1000NZD http://lextreme.com/video/1uzferev.avi
  6. Well, its a posibility. Any idea what parts are like for the v12? or how much of a drop in it will be into a E34?
  7. Yea thats starting to look a bit better, if it comes with the ECU & loom also. A good lexus one will go for $3k complete, but the fabrication costs of fitting wll be bout the rest to make it up to $5k. tough call
  8. Yikes $3.5k for a gearbox Bout on par with what I've found tho. Sucks for me. I wanted to retain as much of the OBC sensors for brakes & coolant as possbile, but I might just have to dump the Lexus 4L v8 in there
  9. Anyone seen any of these in NZ and what $$ they go for? High K's wouldnt matter. I'm after the gear necessary to do a E34 525i to 540i conversion. But never seen one wrecked in NZ?

    Hmm, Insurance

Hmm, NAC seem very reasonable $650/year for a E34 running a 4L v8, upgraded suspension, interior, brakes, body kit & sounds. $800 excess For a under 25

    Hmm, Insurance

Hi, I just picked up a E34 525i last night, is stock and insured now no worries. But I plan on dumping in a Lexus 1UZ-FE 4L v8 along with new suspension, sways, brakes, interior and the whole works. Its slightly less in power than a E34 540i. Whos the best insurance place for this stuff? Most people dont seem to want to know about a 4L or bigger with an under 25. (23btw with a clean record) Edit - if anyone knows of a source for silly cheap (like $3kNZD) for a M60, tranny & loom I'd be really interested later down the track too since thats about the same cost as the 1UZ.
  12. To take part in this Luxo barge race does it have to have a BMW engine?

    E34 in Welly

Cool thanks for the reply. I'm mostly interested in just a straight and tidy chassis more than anything, no dings at all. The M Tech kit was a bomus however as I'm after one of those for the E34 that I buy. Engine, Gearbox would all be replaced along with a retrimmed interior and new paint job, but yea, I wouldnt be looking at spending near $7k on the base car

    E34 in Welly

Anyone know on the condition of this car or an estimate of what it'd go for? http://www.trademe.co.nz/structure/auction...63&key=39242034

    E30 M3

Yea, impossible to reg, even if you did a RHD convert. If you could it'd be sold already

    E30 M3

Gonna buy it? I think I'll wait for a E36 since I want a street use car. Just turbo or twinscrew S/C..... hmmm...

    E30 M3

Just had a look, they have two, one silver one red. Silver is sold. Red has Racing Dynamics rims, paints average (dodgy across the spoiler) interior looks good, cept the rear parcel tray. LHD. $20k. Ideal track rat. Dunno what year or how many km's its done tho but yea, cheap for a M3.

    1 series

I think they are quite sexy, especially when an ACS kit is thrown on. Tho the video I have somewhere of a 120d drifting around a track is somewhat wrong, but cool

    E30 M3

Spotted a red E30 M3 on an unloading truck at Magnum Prestige in Rangiora. Dunno if its going up for sale for sure or anything, or any details on it, but its a very nice clean looking car from the quick glance at it that I got. So just a heads up and keep an eye out at http://www.magnumprestige.co.nz I'll let you know if I see it appear on the lot.

    E36s

Howdy, I'm trying to get an idea of the current market values on some E36's. Ideally I want a 325. K's doesnt matter (engine will get pulled apart and freshened up) but it does need to go Manual would be nice. Interior doesnt matter too much (will get retrimmed) Brakes and suspension will be replaced with aftermarket. All that does need to be good is dent, rust free and a straight chassis/shell. Any idea whats out there? Also the engine and trans is around $2900 from a wreckers, is it cheaper to find a 318 and swap the engine & trans in? or just worth going for a 325?
  22. Yea it was the 2.5, the 2L was sitting on the floor next to it.
  23. yes ask Alpina about that People producing cars for a production line are never going to be as aggressive in engine tuning and how far they push things as people doing custom one off cars, Last thing you want is to push an engine turbo setup to its absolute limit, have people push it and have to warranty half your stuff. However with a bit of work, there are cars out there that are doing 512rwhp 544 ft/lb torque @20 PSI on a M30 Edit - I have seen references to a M30 in full race trim doing 400hp, however I dont overly believe that information as I cant figure out how the heck they would do it. Well definatley not on street fuel atleast
  24. It would mostly depend if you could get your hands on a 24 valve head for the M30, given the numbers around I'm guessing they would fetch a real pretty price however. Given one of those, the potential for serious NA power is fairly likely.Failing that, they are nice engines for a turbo, 500 odd hp would be easy enough
  25. Well spotted, I have pics of that E30 also. I'm headed back there this week again to check out the other two touring cars. (They put new brakes on my 325 last week, new rotors and metal king pads). Done about 150km on them so far, am thinking they are still breaking in because the performance is really weak. Either that or my brake booster is on the fritz, but is that likely? Either way its something I need to get sorted, I'm hoping they are still breaking in and will give some good bite. I'll be getting DCH to do all my project car parts sourcing when that starts later this year, what shape it will take is still unknown. I'd like to do a 633/635csi however most are autos. And in saying that most E34 535i's are also autos, and the availablity of manual gearboxes will be what determines if I do one of those or not. If I'm screwed tis going to be another E36, either taking the line of a M50B25 with M3 cams, 96+ valve retainers, intake, ltw flywheel, elec fan for the engine, or just going for a S50B32 depending on the price difference. Either way upgraded brakes, and coilovers like Bilstein PSS-9's will be on the cards. Decisions decisions....
