I was toying with the idea of throwing a BBQ & few beers one saturday for you guys if y'r interested. To make it more interesting I am going to try and get a brand new BMW for you all to look over and underneath. So you can actually have a look at all the new technology. No driving tho. It will be on my insurance.
The question is tho..... what would you actually like to have a closer look at ???
vote on the poll.... and I'll make the request and see which car I can get.
Cheers

You dont need a specific BMW battery.....just a Euro style ( for mounting )....should be a Din55 or Din65
-
These have now been sold
-
Same here too

sweet, will do once it cools down
dead cold...10 thous at the valve...not the camshaft and make sure y'r exactly on the back of the cam opposite the lobe... do it in firing order 153624....inlet first then exhaust...easier that way and accurate
-
yeah i rebuilt the head...didnt realise valve clearances changed after initial setup..car was running fine for a good week or two after doing the head without touching the valve clearances again so i would imagine they are ok?
taking it to mechanic tomorrow if i cant fix it before then!
Yes they can. Had it happen heaps...sometimes after only a short time running....Its a must to recheck...especially doin retail work

I vote Mclaren.
Cos ive never heard of the other guy
So did I ....but we're probably both wrong....Who is Bob ???
Isn't a BOB something a lady uses ???

Looks like everyone has shallow pockets Andrew.... as in broke

Have you rechecked valve clearances after running the engine ???...I think I read you put a reco head on this car. After running and allowing the car to get to operating temperature, always allow the engine to cool...overnight preferably and redo y'r valve clearances. They will alter after initial set up.

Remove the outer shield (black) from y'r distributor cap and make sure it isnt cross firing or shorting to the shield earths (brass inserts in the dist. cap that the bolts go through). You normally see signs of tracking under these shields if you have spark plug or suppressor cap problems. Not many check these when carrying out a service.
Cant help with an AFM tho. What is actually wrong with it...is it sticking??... as in not a smooth action

Does it have a 5yr, 200,00k warranty ??

Thanks Guys
Voltage was measured at the battery terminals with a multimeter yesterday with the car running and revved up at only 11.6v. Charged half of yesterday and overnight and now measuring 12.6v. Will start up tonight and see if there is any difference.
The car has had only occasional runs about every 2 weeks, although these were all in excess of 1/2 and hour so battery should have had a good charge in that time.
I suspect there is an issue with the alternator unless there is a simple thing like a fuse or diode or thing-a-me-jig that someone knows of that might have gone west.
What's an AGM Cain (other than an Annual General Meeting)?
Cheers, Jock
It should be about 14 Volts + or - .5 Volts when the engine is running, anything under is normally a diode fault in the alternator.....hope you didnt spike it when you jump started it
