Ive been looking at M3 s in Japan for some time , at dealer auctions they go for big money, Im not sure where they are going aside from NZ I suspect they are going to Europe as well as these cars are becoming very collectable Looking at the Jap trade me auctions yahoo I have found the odd one heres an example http://page9.auctions.yahoo.co.jp/jp/auction/k46423933 the difficulty with these auctions is getting someone to check and view the car (same as in NZ) this car could be anywhere in Japan. Within the confines of the Tokyo area I can do this or get it done , just remeber its worse than Auckland to travel 40 kms takes 2 hrs in Tokyo so there will be a charge ,also you need a 87 model to rego it. overall its not a cheap exercise but if you prepare to be patient you can probabaly get a rough one for 17-18 or find a nice one for more and leave it in storage in Japan till it complies ie is 20 yrs old Ther also seem to be a number of M3 or euro classic specialist delaers that sell cars and parts but again thge prices arent cheap eg 7k for E30 M3 engine I am more than happy to help those who are prepared to pay the money ,unfortunately the bargains are gone long ago on these Regards Alex

did you buy in NZ or on the net?

Ok Im not an expert but have been involved in this to some extent , having attended a seminar put on by the govt department thats running this. The 2 fuels are Ethanol and Bio deisel. Ethanol is not a problem for an engine to run on , 95% of vehicles in brazil run on it. It has some benefits . In fact methanol is the preferred fuel for drag cars both are types of alcohol and can povide a better bang and cooling as well. The problem seems to be that 100% ethanol doesnt start as well in cold temperatures . Thats why they mix it with petrol. Methanol also is harder on certain type of rubber fuel lines and seals . Cars that are built for E85 (85% ethanol) have better fuel lines and a slightly diffrent fuel; map, they will run fine on ethanol; (E85) and petrol or any mix of the two true duel fuel cars. At the moment the first introduction will be a lower amount of ethanol added (10-15% ) I think at this level you probabaly wont notice the difference in fact if anything it will probabaly improve the running of your car. There are plenty of good articles on the web if your intersted , its seems the rest of the world is already some way ahead of us on this (all diesel in France has 10% bio diesel added) The big plus of biofuels is that they are renewable (unlike oil ) and are good for the environment (=dont add carbon) hove

Check it isnt the cam belt breaking up, if the sound comes from the cambelt cover area take care, Im not sure if this an interference negine but if it breaks a cambelt can be pretty bad for the engine. It could also be a fan breaking up as you say it sounds like . good luck Hove

The list is too long basically everthing replaced that could cause problems or was worn eg belts rubbers water pump head job , full parts lsit is available as are the dyno pack dyno sheets available to prospective buyers only . But otherwere wise confidential. Happy to guarantee the performance of this car, very easy to run in the 17's a bit more skill required to get into the 16's but quite achievable. for more details or a test run at puke call me or PM me: obviously serious buyers only. Cheers Hove PS this is a very original car as well still has electric windows that work mint door cards , dash etc no rust , bog or dents

I drive an E39 540 and have been driven to distraction by the same question as have several of my friends. Heres some pro and cons Ive noticed , 7 is quieter and smoother (Double glazed and more sound deadening) But the 7 looks older somehow ,the 5 is quicker and more nimble but the 7 is generally cheaper for the same year On both cars from about the 99 models on the economy improves and the gear change improves vastly , I presume due to better transmision adaption software in the computer . In the ones Ive driven its worth 2 litres /100kms. Stock 7s have very high profile tires good for ride but not so good for handling. The real turn up for the books in my view is the 750il, smooth, powerful ,fast and sounds amazing ... and to top it off they are extremly good value . We have sold 3 750's lately from 96 -01 and we have one guy in the south island who rang to tell us he got 7.4lk/100Km ! So what to buy ? common sense would be 528/530 E39 for fun E39 540 ( maybe M sport or with a kit) if you want to be outrageous go the 750il Ive just landed a 2000 740i and have a 750il comming if your interested Ive also got several 528's includeing 2 touring wagons Cheers Hove
