  1. Hey Alex, they comply for OSCAR as it is basically an all commers class anyway. We can also run with Brennon Sport Sedans as they allow a minimum 3ltr and above 6 cyl Natural Asp.

You might be able to help me with some parts. Copy the cage for sure. It is pretty full on and is going to be a pain to paint but sh*t happens. All in the name of safety. I'll be making some pretty cool Suspension parts that you may be interested in also.

We could team up and run a 2 car team in the enduros once they are both finished. I don't mind running carspot on my car. Yes I know I am cheeky.

Clamp PM me you email address and we'll se what we can work on together,Im looking at a couple of shock packages but will probabaly end up with koni just becuase of support from Grant at stocks

although I might look at MCA from oz there are supposed to be pretty good and proced between $1100 and $1500 a corner

    catch up on the email

    cheers

  2. Thats looking might mighty cool man. Top job !

Hey Clamp just bought an M3 E36(94 3 litre) myself, might have to copy your cage design looks good to me.

will probably go koni as well, havent checked the OSCA web site do they comply or do we have to run in all commers maybe even muscle cars?

any way will do the BMW open class and enduros if I can raise the funds

    cheers

  4. Hi Golfboy666..

The 'H' pattern gearbox is original for the US Spec e30M3's. to be hoest you're probably going to have more luck getting a US car than a euro car + shipping involved would put the cost up. Im waiting for the law change before I can put mine on the road here in NZ..

Have you found anyone that has any e30 m3's for sale??

    Laurence.

Ive been looking at M3 s in Japan for some time , at dealer auctions they go for big money, Im not sure where they are going aside from NZ I suspect they are going to Europe as well as these cars are becoming very collectable

Looking at the Jap trade me auctions yahoo I have found the odd one heres an example

    http://page9.auctions.yahoo.co.jp/jp/auction/k46423933

the difficulty with these auctions is getting someone to check and view the car (same as in NZ) this car could be anywhere in Japan.

Within the confines of the Tokyo area I can do this or get it done , just remeber its worse than Auckland to travel 40 kms takes 2 hrs in Tokyo so there will be a charge ,also you need a 87 model to rego it.

overall its not a cheap exercise but if you prepare to be patient you can probabaly get a rough one for 17-18

or find a nice one for more and leave it in storage in Japan till it complies ie is 20 yrs old

Ther also seem to be a number of M3 or euro classic specialist delaers that sell cars and parts but again thge prices arent cheap eg 7k for E30 M3 engine

I am more than happy to help those who are prepared to pay the money ,unfortunately the bargains are gone long ago on these

    Regards

    Alex

  5. A 5 series from E34 onward is big enough for a child.

You have to push a 728 a bit harder than the 740 to get it moving. The fuel economy of the V8 is good and so smooth. Once you've driven one you won't go back to the little cars.

Whatever you buy, get it checked by BMW before you cough up the money.

we have this car which was owned by a BMW club member and well maintained 4.4 il

  6. I run one of these in my 01 330i ... I have the standard HK 10 speaker package with international 'Business' head unit with a 60gb iPod video plugged in and it works mint. It replaces your CD stacker (plugs into the same plug as your CD stacker) and you use your standard head unit to control it ..

    http://www.dension.com/icelinkplus.php is what you want

and check compatiblity here .. before they had this info I actually emailed them with my headunit details they replied back quickly.

    http://www.dension.com/oem.php

awesome product. would never go back to CDs

they have products for after market head units too .. have a hunt around on the site.

attached is a dump off the site for audi and also a pic of where I have my Ipod in my old jap coin holder space.

did you buy in NZ or on the net?

  7. Main point of this thread was to see if anyone knew what affect bio petrol has on BMW petrol engines.

Im not into politics either. Anyone know about effects of biopetrol on BMW engines?

Ok Im not an expert but have been involved in this to some extent , having attended a seminar put on by the govt department thats running this.

The 2 fuels are Ethanol and Bio deisel. Ethanol is not a problem for an engine to run on , 95% of vehicles in brazil run on it. It has some benefits .

In fact methanol is the preferred fuel for drag cars both are types of alcohol and can povide a better bang and cooling as well.

The problem seems to be that 100% ethanol doesnt start as well in cold temperatures . Thats why they mix it with petrol.

Methanol also is harder on certain type of rubber fuel lines and seals . Cars that are built for E85 (85% ethanol) have better fuel lines and a slightly diffrent fuel; map, they will run fine on ethanol; (E85) and petrol or any mix of the two true duel fuel cars.

At the moment the first introduction will be a lower amount of ethanol added (10-15% ) I think at this level you probabaly wont notice the difference in fact if anything it will probabaly improve the running of your car.

There are plenty of good articles on the web if your intersted , its seems the rest of the world is already some way ahead of us on this (all diesel in France has 10% bio diesel added)

The big plus of biofuels is that they are renewable (unlike oil ) and are good for the environment (=dont add carbon)

  8. God I love the E36 M3 Evo's. Has that one got the SMG, paddle shift?? It says SMG in the description, I didn't think E36 M3's came with the SMG.

Thanks I want an E36 but not SMG , as I am going to turn it into an open class and enduro car

    cheers

  9. All,

My nephews 316i (M10 ?) has started making an incredible 'flapping' noise, sort of like you get when you put a piece of paper in a fan. Very consistant in terms of repitition but I cant remember if it speeds up as the revs increase.

Anyway as soon as you hit 3500 revs in second it just seems to choke....no power at all. When in third it does it at 3000 revs.

Everything under the bonnet appears to be in good condition I cant see anything obvious thats loose or leaking.

Any ideas whilst I have it on my driveway for the evening ?

Check it isnt the cam belt breaking up, if the sound comes from the cambelt cover area take care, Im not sure if this an interference negine but if it breaks a cambelt can be pretty bad for the engine.

It could also be a fan breaking up as you say it sounds like .

    good luck

  10. what has been done to the engine?

The list is too long basically everthing replaced that could cause problems or was worn eg belts rubbers water pump head job , full parts lsit is available as are the dyno pack dyno sheets available to prospective buyers only . But otherwere wise confidential.

Happy to guarantee the performance of this car, very easy to run in the 17's a bit more skill required to get into the 16's but quite achievable.

for more details or a test run at puke call me or PM me: obviously serious buyers only.

    Cheers

PS this is a very original car as well still has electric windows that work mint door cards , dash etc no rust , bog or dents

  11. I drive an E39 540 and have been driven to distraction by the same question as have several of my friends.

Heres some pro and cons Ive noticed , 7 is quieter and smoother (Double glazed and more sound deadening)

But the 7 looks older somehow ,the 5 is quicker and more nimble but the 7 is generally cheaper for the same year

On both cars from about the 99 models on the economy improves and the gear change improves vastly , I presume due to better transmision adaption software in the computer . In the ones Ive driven its worth 2 litres /100kms. Stock 7s have very high profile tires good for ride but not so good for handling.

The real turn up for the books in my view is the 750il, smooth, powerful ,fast and sounds amazing ... and to top it off they are extremly good value .

We have sold 3 750's lately from 96 -01 and we have one guy in the south island who rang to tell us he got 7.4lk/100Km !

So what to buy ? common sense would be 528/530 E39 for fun E39 540 ( maybe M sport or with a kit) if you want to be outrageous go the 750il

Ive just landed a 2000 740i and have a 750il comming if your interested Ive also got several 528's includeing 2 touring wagons

    Cheers

  12. The caddys are over 20 years old - and therefore can be imported under classic car laws.

The 8 series doesn't meet frontal impact - isn't 20 years old. Therefore can't be brought in.

Plenty of people have been caught out by this so beware , I think there is even an 840 for sale on trade me at present thats LHD

Nz new ones are becomeing pretty realistically priced now anyway,

    good luck
