  1. Good Evening,

I've found a bit of info scattered through this forum, but all for newer or older models. so here is my story.

    The car is a 1994 E34 540iS.

    The problemis a window gremlin.

It started in the rear left window, which stopped working when i brough it, then after a bit of fiddling it started working.

THen about a week later the left front window stopped working. about 2 weeks after that, it was working again, but the driver window wasn't... DOH!

Anyway, its been many months since then, the driver window still doesnt work, the left rear is fine, but every so often the front left stops working again, never for long though, about 1 minute of fiddling with the switch and its working again.

I have access to an E32 735 for spare parts.

Please advise where i should start looking/swapping parts to try sort the problem out, i miss having my hair blow in the wind :(

  2. INteresting, used by an american University

Isnt the Ka Mate Haka completly Maori, not polynesian (yes i know different argument again for another time) But given its based on Te Rauparaha we could consider it totally Maori Based...

"Ka Mate" has also become well known in the Mountain West Conference, and among the fans and opponents of the Brigham Young University football team. Prior to the BYU Cougars taking on Boston College, their season-opener in 2005, the Cougars instituted a new tradition when they performed the "Ka Mate" Haka. Minutes before kickoff, members of the BYU football team lined up on the southeast corner of the field and performed "Ka Mate" for a stadium full of cheering fans. Planned and prepared under a tight veil of secrecy for months, this new tradition was inspired by Bryce Mahuika, the team’s only player of Maori decent, who had recently lost his father, Michael K. Mahuika (the son of Napi Mahuika, the chief of the Maori Ngati Porou tribe). As a boy, Michael K. Mahuika, his father's oldest son and next in line to become the chief of his tribe, was taught everything about his tribe's culture. When he attended the Church College of Hawaii, now Brigham Young University Hawaii, he was employed at the Polynesian Cultural Center (PCC), where he performed haka and other dances of his people at the Maori Village for tourists. He passed these cultural dances on to his children, teaching them how important they were to his people and his forefathers. On March 27th, 2005, Michael K. Mahuika passed away in Vancouver, Washington; Hodgkin's lymphoma had finally won. Over a thousand mourners attended his funeral, including Curtis Brown, Brigham Young University's star running back, to honor the fallen chief. Kyle and Bryce Mahuika, his sons, led them in a haka at the gravesite prior to lowering Michael K. Mahuika's casket into the ground. After returning from his father's funeral, Bryce Mahuika attended a team meeeting where Bronco Mendenhall, the head coach, asked the team for personal requests that might help the team reach their goals in 2006. Bryce Mahuika went up to the front to thank everybody for their support, when he had the idea to do the Haka to fire up the crowd and prepare for football games. He explained the origins and significance of the Haka to the team, and they enthusiastically supported the idea. On September 03, 2005, the BYU Football team instituted the new tradition, and a little over a year later, on November 18th, 2006, the Cougars became undefeated (in conference play) Mountain West Conference champions.

In an interesting departure from their normal pre-game "Ka Mate" performance, on Saturday, 25 November, 2006, the Brigham Young University Cougars performed "Ka Mate" both prior to their historic rivalry football game with the University of Utah, and upon winning a come-from-behind, extremely hard-fought game, breaking Utah's four-year winning streak in the series, BYU's football team performed an additional impromptu rendition of "Ka Mate" to the delight of their fans in attendance.

  3. but Mr.Fox can do anything ;)

    Not without breaking the law;

Lotteries – for example raffles, sweepstakes

You do not require a licence if:

total value of prizes for a session is $5,000 or less, and

turnover of the gambling is $25,000 or less.

These may be run as either class 1 gambling or class 2 gambling.

If the total value of prizes is more than $5000 your group must be a society and it will require a licence. Find out how to obtain a licence.

You will need to comply with the lottery game rules.

See also the list of prizes which are prohibited and rules around what gambling proceeds can be used for.

  4. i think you have to clear with the dept of justice and the draw has to be supervised in some way to ensure you dont pull out your own ticket....Its a tough market isnt it.I would love to have a 540,but I wont get f.... all for my 535(essentially the same as yours) and then shell out another 6 to 8 thousand for the two cylinders and an extra forward gear.

    Tradeins considered you know ;)

Its hard to sell it, but yeah, onwards and upwards.

  5. love the techno violet ,hate the white......good luck, having driven a few i dont think anyone who drives it will be able to resist.

Originally i thought it was white too in the photos, but mine eyes (and the purchase doc) say Grey Leather, its either Hall Grey or Hell Grey Leather, can't read quite right.

The purchase doc is quite personall, i got a name number and birthdate of the guy lol... He bought it when he was 49, put a 50k deposit on it. had 5km on the clock...

Anyway, the moral of the story is, its not white, its grey, so buy it :P

  6. Charlie Fox - not always true. My insurance company let me carry on my no claims from the time I was first put as a named driver under my parents insurance company as I stuck with the same company. In other words I got all the benefits of cheap insurance under my parents name when I first started driving AND I got the no claims when I started paying for my own.

That said, we do live in a rural area and so have much more flexibility and much cheaper insurance than you city dwellers. And not all companies would do that I'm sure.

    Noted:

I just like do do everything on my own, being independant, Had my own insurance since 15, and financed my first decent (ie 5 figures) car without needing a guarantor, but thats just me, each to his, or her as this case own i say.

Take the best deal for now, and query for the future (ie. just ask can i carry my own no claims over when i leave home).

  7. The reason its so much cheaper to do it under your parents is they probably have their no claims bonus intact, this gives them a 50 or a 60% discount. You as a new driver who has held no previous insurance dont get this discount initially (you earn it) The issue with the insurance Policy being under your parents name is that when the time comes for you to break out on your own you will need to get your own insurance, and won't have earnt your own no claims bonus. My suggestion is get it in your name, start earning your no claims bonus, so when you do eventualy break out on your own its cheap for you.

Mum n dad can always help out with $$ while you live with them.

You may do what i did with my first car(s) at 15.

Consider starting with only 3rd fire and theft since its not exactly a massive $$ car anyway, if you have faith in your own driving (you wont cause the accident) 3rd will still cover you for somone elses mistake, be WAY cheaper, and when you eventually want full cover the time spent with 3rd cover will still qualify you for no claims with full cover.

  8. With reference to This Good Point I shall tell you what it would take for me to part with my beautiful baby.

I'm really looking for $14,000 Yes it's high milage, but it runs sweet and has been well looked after, with new clutch and shocks in the last 24 months, Its NZ new and has a full service history and receipts in a folder.

If you think i'm being rediculous then please let me know, if its not worth anywhere near as much as i want then i simply won't sell it. It might not be worth that much to you, it is to me, so no offence if i don't take your advice.

Perhaps im being stupid by asking a question i may not want to hear the answer to?

    Constructive crtisism is appreciated

  9. damn... 400 + k's !!.. hvnt heard of cars going up that high.. done any major repairs?

oh yeah 200+k's aint that bad for a car.. as most people use their cars for daily drivers to and from work, and some recreational activites and will most likely clock up a few thousand k's in a year.

really just depends on the last owners on how they took care of the car

    Apologiese OT:

My 540iS has just ticked over 340,000km and is still going strong, very strong. Had the 90min check done by jerry Clayton, engine came back in very good nick, relative compression is out only 1% on 3 cylinders and spot on for the remainder. No knocks, ticks, clicks or surging, smooth as.

The key is servicing them properly and regularily, other wise the bimmer will bite you in the wallet!!

  10. The time has come.

This car has been a lot of fun, but i'm looking to upgrade ;) Yes it's possible.

In honor of the support this site has given me first dibs go to this community, it is advertised no where else.

Offers can be PMd, or TXTd or Called to 027 300 5838

    Little more info here;

    My 540iS

It has new wheels, 18" Beyern 5s with as new rubber, GoodYear Eagle F1s, 235fr and 265 rr ;) Dont have a photo sorry. Deep dish 5 spokes essentialy.

Trade considered, $8000 + W.H.Y? Looking to get an E30 or thereabouts as a run around.

  11. IMgoing to be completly unhelpful and say that after driving turbos my whole life (with power from 150 - 220 kwatw)

    Screw Turbos buy a V8 :P

Rolling around in the M60B40 powered 540i is just so much more fun, 500 or 5500, first or 6th gear, it pulls like school boy.

Now an M60 in a E36 shell would be a lot of fun.

  12. Cheers Foxy

    You've got a 540 Sport! Damn. 540 Sport= manual shift right? Damn ^_^

My car in ex Japan and no service records  Great car though, 160K km for under 6K :D

I might try BMW first (thanks Jochen) - $25 is surprisingly good

If I don't have any luck I may ask to photocopy yours (all of it yes) it that's possible/practicle

    Thanks

Thanks my_e36 : yes seems to be a bit on ebay

    Manual, 6 Spd ^_^ Envy me ;)

Yeah, im sure we can work somthing out RE: Photocopying it,l no problemo.

  13. cress has a manual with the e32 that has style 5's as a factory option, however the manual was from germany and all in german. its a prick to figure out what they are acutally saying.

not to mention the original purchasing docs that have the wheels and spoiler on the invoice. from the dealership where it was oringnally brought from.
