Many discussions have passed in the forums about the legality of germanplates, i believe the answer is no they're not legal.Although, cops don't seem to care that much. I've heard of a couple members who have received letters from LTSA?? about removing them from the vehicle. I've also heard of a couple people getting $150 fines for having them on their vehicle. Its not a really big worry and I certainly wouldn't hesitate to place them on my car (thats how much its enforced )
  4. Allan, I don't think its fair to generalize. Although I do agree that the V8s do have some cooling issues as i've experienced first hand. Once they've been replaced they'll go for a very long time. A 540 this age has probably had some of the system, if not all replaced. A lot of the E39 imports in the NZ market are bringing down the name of mint NZ new E39s, as Singapore imports for example, they have a harsh climate therefore it has an affect on the headlight support brackets, and other plastic parts, like the expansion tank, etc. A nice NZ New E39 thats been well looked after shouldn't have alot of these problems, at this age now.
  5. Ahh, you read my mind! I still love the E39 shape, even have it over most of the modern BMW's.
  6. Not bad. The angel eyes look soo different with the white look over the yellowish of the original. Nice find!
  7. Yeah mate, its been on TM for a while. I guess you can see why
  8. I can vouch for that, just the schnitzer kit makes it a unique example, not many New Zealand new around (Especially in 6 speed). Only 5 were imported new by BMW as far as I can remember. Auto & Manual
  9. I agree with what you're saying but, families usually have more than one car, so the offender could take the other car, or borrow one so they're not 'followed' by Big Brother. I'm asking the same question as kiwi535, is there going to be a tollerance level (Apart from verbal warnings) so you can pass a car or a slow truck, because surely they're not going to be pushing everyone to be driving at the same speed, so theres no need to pass. But thats probably the next stage. to be able to control every cars speed.
  10. Very nice 5er mate, Love the wheels.
  11. Fantastic! Glad to here its been fixed. Very interesting little bug you had there
  12. You can get the genuine article ACS S5 and then you can get a 540 thats had the ASC treatment, i.e, gone through the ACS factory and had the suspension, bodykit, etc. put on. As far as I know it was an option when ordering a new 540 whether you wanted to spend the extra cash and get it kitted out. It definitly should have sports seats, ACS pedals, and the badging differs from what is shown in the ACS S5 sales brochure, Here
  13. I'm with greg111 on this one, with my experience that has helped before.
  14. Fathers got a 540 exactly the same but auto, done 166k still feels as tight as ever.
  15. I'm with Antony, 19's would be mint. Better ride as well than 20's.
  16. Ha, Great story. You certainly seem to have more interesting trips than I have coming back from the mount!
