BMW’s CEO Norbert Reithofer has previously said the fifth-generation BMW 7-Series will be offered as a hybrid in 2009. More details have now emerged in light of the 2009 BMW 7-Series debut. Unfortunately, according to the latest findings by CAR, don’t expect the 2009 7-Series hybrid to be cheap or all that fuel-efficient. Power will come from the 4.4L V8 petrol-electric hybrid engine powered by lithium-ion batteries. According to CAR, the fuel-economy of the 2009 7-Series V8 hybrid won’t match the outstanding 33mpg of the new 2009 diesel-powered 730d. Not to mention it won’t be cheap. Expect to pay a lot more than the twin-turbo 400-hp 750i that goes on sale this November. So why even make an expensive 7-series hybrid that won’t be as efficient as the diesel? According to Dr. Klaus Draeger, BMW board member responsible for R&D and project leader for the new 7-Series, â€Some customers really want a V8 with very good fuel economy.†Well it seems the Mercedes-Benz S400 BlueTec Hybrid will hold the lead with 44mpg. Both, the Mercedes-Benz S4000 BlueTec Hybrid and the BMW 7-Series hybrid will go head-to-head with the Lexus LS 600h. 2009 BMW 7-Series:

BMW CEO Norbert Reithofer has previously said that its ‘M’ division is seriously considerings using fewer cylinders in its future high-performance M lineup. Well some of those future high-performance M cars may end up getting turbo-boosted engines We highly doubt BMW will drop the new 414-hp V8 that just debuted in the new 2008 BMW M3. But insiders say the massive naturally aspirated V10 will be dropped for a twin-turbo V8 instead. The 4.4 liter V8 that powers the X6 xDrive50i is currently being tested and is producing “400 kW (536hp) and more of output,†an insider said. The next-generation M5 will make its debut as a 2011 model year. Sources have previously said that direct-injection technology and turbocharged engines will be incorporated with the EfficientDynamics program to reduce fuel-economy of the new M5 while increasing its fuel-efficiency. The car is also expected to get BMW’s new 7-speed M DCT dual-clutch transmission. Photo Renderings: 2010 BMW 5-Series:

Don't bother with coil overs. Get good shocks and springs and it will handle way better than a badly setup coil over kit.

91 is fine. I'd reckon your 318 would probably get better economy with it. I use it in my 323 and get circa 70kms more a tank than 98.

BMW is up to something again. The company is building a huge installation at the Red Square in Moscow for an exclusive event on July 8th, 2008 for which they released a trailer today. We have no idea what is hidden behind this gigantic structure seen above and we highly doubt its the 2009 BMW 7-Series. But July 8th isn’t that far so we’ll have to wait and see. We’ve gathered some interesting screenshots from the trailer, so if you want to take a shot at what BMW is hiding - let us know in the comments section below. Check out the Never Stand Still trailer after the jump and head over to the Never Stand Still web site to see more videos. BMW - Never Stand Still:

Updated with video: See the new 2009 BMW 7-Series in action after the jump. We heard BMW was going to wait until July 7th to unveil the new 2009 BMW 7-Series, but since images and information have already been leaked, BMW decided to just drop the press release along with a bunch of images and a video (see it after the jump). Alright let’s get right to it. The 2009 BMW 7-Series will be available in Europe in 5 different variants including the 730d, 740i, 740Li, 750i and 750Li. The 730d is powered by a 3.0L straight 6-cylinder diesel engine producing 245-hp and a peak torque of 398 lb-ft. Both 740i and 740Li are powered by a 3.0L twin-turbocharged 6-cylinder engine that produces 326-hp and torque of 332 lb-ft. Finally, the 750i and 750Li get BMW X6 xDrive50i’s 4.4L V8 with twin-turbochargers producing 400-hp and with neck snapping torque of 442 lb-ft. All engines are mated to six-speed automatic transmission. The 2009 BMW 7-Series also features new and advanced technological features including Head-up Display which incorporates a new speed limit warning system; a camera that is mounted on the back of the rear view mirror that scans oncoming road signs and alerts the driver of speed changes; Lane Departure System; a Side View camera system that operates with the Park Distance Control; and a Night Vision system. The new updated interior features the new iDrive system with a 10.2 inch screen. The 40GB on-board hard-drive allows drivers to upload music and other files. The new 2009 BMW 7-Series also comes with BMW’s new ConnectedDrive system that lets you surf the internet. The fifth-generation 7-Series goes on sale in the UK on November 15th, 2008. The U.S. press release will be available this Sunday, so hold on for the stateside details. 2009 BMW 7-Series: Press Release: - World’s first Night Vision system with individual pedestrian recognition - World’s first production car with front side view camera - First BMW Saloon with speed-related Integral Active Steering - First BMW with Lane Change Warning - BMW 7 Series to feature EfficientDynamics for class-leading CO2 emissions and fuel consumption The launch of the fifth generation of the BMW 7 Series sets a new benchmark in automotive luxury, technical innovation and class-leading driving dynamics, combined with emissions reducing and fuel saving technology. The flagship of the BMW model range debuts in November with a host of world firsts and will initially be offered with a choice of three powerplants, one diesel and two petrol engines. The two petrol-powered cars will be offered with a long-wheelbase body too. All three engines produce more power yet use less fuel and produce less emissions than any rival premium product. The BMW 730d sets a new benchmark in terms of drivetrain performance. The new all-aluminium 3.0-litre straight-six cylinder diesel engine produces 245hp at 4,000rpm. Its effortless real world driving smoothness comes courtesy of a peak torque figure of 540Nm attained from 1,750rpm through to 3,000rpm. The 2,993cc powerplant posts the lowest ever CO2 figure of any BMW 7 Series before it and it is also the most economical 7 Series ever. Its 192g/km emission figure is class-leading for conventionally powered luxury cars, while no other competitor comes close to its 39.2mpg combined consumption figure. It can accelerate from zero to 62mph in 7.2 seconds and has a 152mph top speed. To put the BMW 730d’s competitive advantage in context this luxurious vehicle records near identical fuel consumption and CO2 emissions to the Mercedes C320CDi " a car that is two market segments below the 7 Series and is smaller and lighter than the BMW. The impressive performance of the 730d is, in part, possible due to third-generation common-rail direct injection incorporating piezo injectors that operates at a peak pressure of 1,800 bar. This system ensures a near perfect combustion process. Weighing 185kgs the new six-cylinder diesel engine is also 5kgs lighter than its predecessor. The BMW 730d is set to be the biggest seller in the UK, accounting for approximately 85 per cent of sales. The BMW 750i and 750Li are the range flagships. The new 4,395cc V8 engine from the recently launched X6, featuring twin-turbochargers and high-precision direct injection technology, produces 407hp from 5,500rpm to 6,400rpm. Impressive figures that are backed up by an equally stunning 600Nm of torque from 1,750rpm to 4,500rpm. Such breathtaking performance sees the BMW 750i accelerate from zero to 62mph in 5.2 seconds (5.3 seconds for the 750Li) before going on to an electronically-limited top speed of 155mph. Consumption on the combined cycle is 24.8mpg, while CO2 emissions equate to 266g/km. The all-aluminium V8 engine powering the 750i and 750Li also features its own world first - twin-turbochargers and catalysts that are placed within the V-space of the engine block. This not only optimises packaging but the reduction in manifold length and larger cross sections mean the engine breathes better for enhanced performance. Double-VANOS variable valve technology and high-precision direct injection technology further aid engine performance to the degree that all the innovations combine to offer a V8 engine that has an equivalent output of a traditional 12-cylinder unit. Aimed at customers who prefer the characteristics of a petrol-powered BMW six-cylinder engine, the BMW 740i and 740Li are also offered. Using an internationally-acclaimed 2,979cc powerplant, the BMW 740i musters 326hp and 450Nm of torque for rapid yet serene performance. The twin-turbocharged engine features high-precision direct injection and Double-VANOS variable valve technology to achieve optimum performance. The 3.0-litre BMW 740i and 740Li post combined fuel consumption figures of 28.5mpg and 28.3mpg respectively, while returning emissions figures of 232g/km and 235g/km. All BMW 7 Series models come with a six-speed automatic gearbox as standard. EfficientDynamics The launch of the new 7 Series completes the line-up of the entire BMW range now being equipped with EfficientDynamics technologies fitted as standard. With its roof, doors, bonnet and side panels all made from aluminium to dovetail with the principle of lightweight engineering, the 7 Series also has other innovative class-leading technology which improves engine performance, while cutting fuel consumption and emissions. Brake Energy Regeneration uses the engine’s power on overrun, such as braking, to charge the battery for the car’s electrical circuit. When the driver is accelerating the alternator disengages so all of the engine’s power is channelled towards the car’s performance. Other ancillaries, such as the air-conditioning compressor, are also able to disengage to improve the all round performance of the car. This intelligent use of drivetrain power is why EfficientDynamics technology has helped the 7 Series become a class-leader in terms of performance, fuel consumption and emissions. World firsts The BMW 7 Series’ drivetrain superiority is reinforced with a plethora of automotive firsts. All 7 Series can now be specified with the world’s first Head-up Display incorporating a speed limit warning system. A camera mounted on the back of the rear view mirror scans oncoming road signs to alert the driver of any impending speed restriction. The BMW 7 Series is also the world’s first car available with a Side View camera system that operates in conjunction with Park Distance Control. The system provides an overview of traffic conditions on the iDrive display so the driver can negotiate a partially obscured junction, leave a car park or drive through a narrow gate with absolute confidence. The new BMW 7 Series can be specified with the world’s most advanced Night Vision system in a production car. BMW was the first manufacturer to fit a Night Vision system to a premium car and it has now upgraded this package to include an individual person recognition system in another world first. A control unit within the system analyses video data of human behaviour as part of the Night Vision camera’s reach and can subsequently alert the driver if it detects a human is moving into the path of the vehicle. Building on the impressive list of innovations, the 7 Series is the first BMW to feature Lane Change Warning combined with Lane Departure Warning. The latter is a system that first appeared on 5 and 6 Series models and uses a camera to monitor road markings. Should the driver start to stray out of lane, a gentle vibration of the steering wheel would provide an alert. However, courtesy of cameras located in the door mirrors, Lane Change Warning adds another tier of driver safety. The two cameras constantly scan the blind spot either side of the vehicle, up to a distance of 60 metres, and alert the driver to the presence of another vehicle with a triangular symbol in the door mirror. Completing the host of innovations is speed-related Integral Active Steering. A car specified with this optional equipment allows the rear wheels to turn by up to 3º. At slow speeds it is highly manoeuvrable, while at a faster pace it offers enhanced composure and driving dynamics. BMW’s flagship car is also the world’s first to come with full-scale Internet connectivity. Tailormade driving dynamics The latest generation BMW 7 Series is the first to have Dynamic Driving Control featuring Dynamic Damping Control as standard. Dynamic Driving Control is the umbrella function that lets a driver customise the characteristics of his or her car. As part of this Dynamic Damping Control can bet set in comfort, normal or sport modes, but, for the first time, with the added benefit that these settings are infinitely variable depending on driving style and road surface condition. Depending on selected mode the throttle response, gear change speed and steering feel are also altered at the same time. To aid driving dynamics and comfort the 7 Series is the first BMW Saloon to feature race car-like double-wishbone front suspension. This arrangement allows engineers to fine-tune the suspension for the best kinematic configuration. The rear suspension consists of a five-link arrangement made of aluminium which can be further optimised with the inclusion of Adaptive Air Suspension. The BMW 7 Series comes as standard with Dynamic Stability Control + featuring additional functions such as Hill-Start Assistant, Brake Drying, Brake Pre-tensioning, Soft-stop and Brake Fade Compensation. Dynamic Traction Control can be activated via a button to enable spirited driving or greater traction of slippery surfaces such as snow and ice. A new interior The new BMW 7 Series comes with one of the most luxurious interiors of any premium car. In addition to a new iDrive controller and larger 10.2-inch screen, owners will be able to programme frequently selected radio stations or navigation destinations on favourite buttons located on the centre console. For the first time on a BMW the instrument cluster comprises a high-resolution colour display with Black Panel technology. This new style of display makes for greater character clarity and, when not in use, forms a smooth, homogenous black surface that gives the interior an added level of modern elegance. With its 40Gb hard drive, the BMW 7 Series is the first production car in the world that enables a customer to upload their favourite music to be stored on the vehicle. In excess of 100 albums can be saved in this way for the driver’s enjoyment. Four-zone automatic air-conditioning can be specified and, for the first time, the 7 Series can have a rear seat ventilation system combined with massage function. The air-conditioning system feeds cool air to the seat squab and backrest while twelve massage bubbles gently kneed the occupants’ upper body. The BMW 7 Series comes with BMW ConnectedDrive with enhanced BMW Assist and BMW TeleServices as standard. BMW Assist is the reactive safety blanket that automatically dials the emergency services if the driver is involved in an accident. For the 7 Series this life-saving system has been improved so that it can now tell the emergency services the severity of the accident and the likely injuries of those inside. BMW TeleServices sees the 7 Series automatically communicate with a call centre if it the car is due a service or a potential fault is detected. A dealer will then contact the owner to arrange a convenient time to rectify this. The BMW 7 Series goes on sale in the UK on 15 November, 2008. Prices will be announced in due course.

This morning you saw to leaked pictures of the 2009 BMW 7-Series and probably thought you were still sleeping and were having a horrible nightmare, only to find it that it was an unfortunate reality. Then you thought to yourself, “hey the 5-Series eventually grew on me, maybe the fifth-generation 7-Series will too.†Honestly, when we brought you renderings of the 2009 BMW 7-Series back in December 2007, we were having second doubts about even posting them because they looked rather extreme. However, Munich decided to release almost the same exact looking car and its here to stay whether you like it or not. So why not just give it a chance and learn some more about it before its official launch on July 7th. According to Automotive News, the new 2009 BMW 7-Series will get the 4.4L V8 twin-turbo from the new BMW X6 xDrive50i that produces 400-hp and 450 lb-ft of torque. And while everyone has been talking up the rumored 8-speed automatic transmission, Automotive News says the engine will be mated to a 6-speed automatic transmission. A 3.0L twin-turbo straight 6 producing 326-hp and a 245-hp diesel will be offered in European markets but won’t come to the U.S. as of right now. But “never say never,†says a BMW source. Maybe that little tone of excitement will make you love the new 7 just a tad bit more. Rumors say a gas-electric hybrid model using a two-mode hybrid system developed in partnership with GM and Daimler will also go on sale later next year. The model along with the BMW X6 Hybrid will kick of an extended range of hybrids for the company in coming years. The 2009 BMW 7-Series comes standard with Dynamic Damping Control, a new BMW technology that allows the driver to choose the degree of damping force and gearshift changes of the automatic transmission at the touch of a button. The system has comfort, normal, sports and sports-plus modes. The Active Steering option also gets an upgrade allowing the drive to change the rear-wheel steering angles by 3 degrees. Other fun stuff includes lane-departure system, night vision, massaging rear-seats, rear-view and side-view cameras. We’ll find out more later next week. Pricing and availability details will be announced closer to launch. 2009 BMW 7-Series (leaked pictures): Photo Renderings: 2009 BMW 7-Series:

We were pretty impressed by Lumma Design’s version of the BMW X5 3.0d. The tuner has now released a sketch of its upcoming package for the X6 SAC. The CLR X 650 gives the BMW X6 a very aggressive body kit, with wider wheel-arches, new front bumper with larger intakes hinting at more power, new side-skirts and 23-inch black alloy wheels. The green monster also gets an upgraded suspension kit allowing it to 40mm lower than the base X6. Of course, like every other tuner car these days, we expect extensive use of carbon fiber to cut weight. No details on engine specs as of yet, but we’ll bring them to you as soon as we get them. While the leaked images of the 2009 BMW 7-Series may be the most exciting news of today, but we’re probably more excited this G-Power G4 3.0i EVO III based on the BMW Z4 3.0i. Besides a performance package G-Power gives the BMW Z4 3.0i a new aerodynamic body kit, 20-inch light alloy wheels, suspension upgrades and a high-performance braking system. G-Power added its new EVO III supercharger system to the 3.0i 6-cylinder engine increasing horsepower by 144-hp for a total of 375-hp with a peak torque of 309 lb-ft. That gives the BMW Z4 3.0i the ability to do 0-62mph in 4.9 seconds with a top speed 186mph. To give you a little perspective of the power this car produces the regular BMW Z4 M outputs 330-hp. Pricing for the conversion to the G-POWER EVO III configuration will cost you 18,850 Euros (29,709) including the installation. Click through for the press release and pictures. G-POWER G4 3.0i EVO III based on BMW Z4 3.0i: Press Release: G-POWER G4 3.0i EVO III: The true “M“ A 300 km/h top speed, 0-100 km/h in just 4,9 seconds, 375 hp and an engine’s peak torque of 420 Nm: These are the characteristics of the latest G-POWER development for the BMW Z4 3.0i. In addition to the increase in power output of 144 hp for the 6- cylinder engine, that normally produces 231 hp, the G-POWER offers a complete tuning program for the Bavarian roadster consisting of: Aerodynamic body kit, light-alloy wheels, suspension modifications, high-performance brake system and exclusive interior components. G-POWER offers superchargers system for increased power output looking back on 25 years of experience in tuning BMW automobiles. The new G-POWER EVO III supercharger system is an evolution, based on the well known systems for the Z4 2,2 to 3,0 l six- cylinder engines of the BMW Z4. Its core is an ASA T1-12 supercharger from the all new “black-line†edition that features ceramic ball bearings for an increased rpm limit of the charger. Accordingly the boost rises to a higher pick of 0,6 bar rel. , which is cooled down by a large air-to-air intercooler and controlled by an Dual Flow bypass system. To keep the oil temperatures at level the G-POWER EVO III system is equipped with a thermostat controlled oil cooler, that prevents the ASA supercharger from overheating. On the exhaust side the G-POWER EVO III system features a complete exhaust system with racing-headers and catalysts. This measure optimizes power yield, throttle response and also ensures the engine’s thermal health. Specially developed mapping for engine electronics coordinate the perfect interaction of all new components. The results of the G-POWER treatment are impressive: With 375 hp at 6.450 rpm and 420 Nm torque at 4.650 rpm the standard 231 hp strong BMW Z4 3.0i becomes a true eliâ€Mâ€inator. With a sprint time from rest to 100 km/h of 4.9 seconds and to 200 km/h in 15,1 seconds the G-POWER G4 is at level with the BMW Z4M and finally outruns it with a top speed of 300-km/h. The conversion of the standard engine to the G-POWER EVO III configuration is 18,850,00 Euro including the installation; which can only be done at our headquarters’ workshop in Autenzell Bavaria. The enormous performance places extreme demands on aerodynamics, tires, suspension and brakes. The G-POWER front apron replaces the production part in its entirety. Its large air inlets provide optimal supply of cooling air for the high performance air-to-air intercooler. At the same time the spoiler minimizes lift on the front axle at high speeds. The G-POWER rocker panels smooth the airflow between the wheel houses and give the Z4 a longer, lower and sleeker appearance. Lift on the rear axle is reduced by the G-POWER rear apron, that features the needed openings for the 4 pipe G-POWER rear muffler. The G-POWER Silverstone 20-inch light-alloy wheels that fill out the space beneath the wheel arches perfectly, underline the distinctive new look of the G-POWER equipped BMW Z4, are mounted in sizes 9.0 J x 20 with size 245/30 ZR 20 tires in front and size 10.0 J x 20 wheels with size 285/25 ZR 20 tires on the rear axle. The large wheels make room for the G-POWER high-performance brake system with eight-piston fixed calipers and 380 x 34 millimeter brake discs on the front axle. The Z4 handling can be made even sportier by installing the height-adjustable G-POWER coil-over suspension RS with nine selectable settings each for bound and rebound. The G-POWER EVO III supercharger system is available for all BMW Z4 3.0i with manual transmission, along with the numerous items from the extensive G-POWER tuning accessories lineup.

If you haven’t noticed already, we’re not to big here on reporting F1 news. But when that F1 news is this big, we have to set aside some time and give you an inside on what’s going on the world of motorsports. BMW announced today that it will be reviving the M1 Procar series for one last run at Hockenheim during the F1 German Gran Prix. 30 years ago the M1 was unveiled as the first independently built car by the BMW Motorsport GmbH. It was then created into a production model, the BMW M1 which allowed customers and enthusiasts to take the ‘M’ power to the road. At the time, it was the hottest thing since sliced bread in the automotive industry. “Just a mention of it today still triggers an enthusiastic reaction. This revival serves as a ‘thank you’ to the fans,†said BMW Motorsport Director Mario Theissen. BMW recently paid a tribute to the model with the M1 Hommage Concept (seen below). BMW M1 Hommage Concept: Press Release: BMW M1 Procar revival at Hockenheim. Past masters roll back the years. Munich, 30th June 2008. The F1 German Grand Prix programme this year will see the revival of the most spectacular single-make competition in motor racing history. The BMW M1 Procar series will be back at Hockenheim on 19th and 20th July as a field of ten cars. BMW Motorsport Director Mario Theissen, for one, is looking forward to the event: “The M1 was unveiled 30 years ago as the first car created independently by the then BMW Motorsport GmbH. It was a racing car which BMW customers could also drive on the road, a unique project which had to overcome some tricky administrative hurdles before getting off the ground.†In order to gain Group 4 homologation, 400 units of the super sports car had to be built within a period of 24 months. As Theissen continues: “The idea of organising a single-make series was born out of necessity – i.e. the requirements of homologation. Nobody expected the BMW M1 Procar series to go down quite so well. Just a mention of it today still triggers an enthusiastic reaction. This revival serves as a ‘thank you’ to the fans.†“There hasn’t been a series as attractive as this before or since,†says Marc Surer. Now working as a Formula One expert on TV, Surer is well placed to judge. As a young Formula 2 driver, he conducted testing and set-up work for the prototypes at the time. “With its mid-engined layout, the M1 was a bit of an animal to drive and had an outrageous soundtrack. The series fed off the appeal of the cars and the opportunity for young drivers to measure themselves against the leading Formula One stars at the time.†The five fastest drivers from Friday practice for the Formula One Grand Prix earned themselves a drive in the M1 race. The 15 remaining 500 hp machines were piloted by hungry young hopefuls. “You were really somebody if you got to drive in one of those races,†recalls Surer. “It was a unique opportunity to pit your skills against the F1 drivers – and they were certainly pretty quick in the M1. The handling of the mid-engined car suited them down to the ground. Plus, in 1979 – the first of the two years the series was held – they always started from the front and were given works cars. That made it pretty tough for us junior drivers in the independent teams. We had to look after our car, but at the same time did everything we could to make our mark.†The idea of developing the BMW M1, however, was the brainchild of Jochen Neerpasch, the head of BMW Motorsport GmbH at the time, and it was he who initiated the single-make series with Bernie Ecclestone and Max Mosley within the relatively relaxed structure of F1 three decades ago. A handful of past masters are set to line up once again for the two show races at Hockenheim. Surer will be joined by Jacques Laffite, Dieter Quester, Christian Danner, Harald Grohs and Prince Leopold of Bavaria. Jochen Neerpasch will also be there, at the wheel of the BMW M1 turned into an Art Car by Andy Warhol. His co-driver will be none other than Frank Stella, who also created an Art Car – a BMW 3.0 CSL which raced at Le Mans in 1976. The 72-year-old remains a keen motor racing fan.

While BMW is doing everything it can with its new EfficientDynamics program to increase the fuel-efficiency of their models, a German man threw gasoline on his BMW and torched it Friday on a lawn outside Frankfurt’s convention center. An unemployed 30-year old drove his 1995 BMW 3-series to the location, got out and emptied a canister of gas and set fire to the whole vehicle. The man, who has not been charged with crime, told police he was protesting high gas-prices and couldn’t afford to drive the car. Umm whatever happened to selling your car and buying a cheaper more fuel-efficient car? Either way the man can be charged with fines and up to 5 years in prison. Police say the man’s name will not be released since he was not charged with crime. We think his name should be withheld from the public, because if BMW fans found out they would probably burn down his house.

BMW CEO Norbert Reithofer confirmed that BMW is working on a Progressive Activity Sedan (PAS) during his Strategic Realignment speech back in September 2007. Since then the BMW PAS has been spotted numerous times testing in Munich. According to Auto Motor und Sport, the BMW PAS will make its debut at the Frankfurt Motor Show in September 2009 and will go on sales shortly after. Expect to see more spy shots of the model being tested with heavy camouflage. BMW says that the PAS is BMW’s own interpretation of the sedan. It will get a big tailgate and will be reminiscent of a BMW X6. Length wise, the BMW PAS will measure 4.90 meters meaning it will be longer than the X6. The technicals are said to come from the new 7-Series and 5-Series range. Unlike the X6, all-wheel-drive will be optional.

BMW CEO Norbert Reithofer opened the BMW Museum today in an official opening ceremony highlighting the importance of tradition for the company. “Awareness of our heritage, the experiences and developments that our company has been through give us direction, power and inspiration for our work.†The BMW Museum has been under construction for the past two and half years and covers over 5,000 square meteres. Visitors can look forward to more than 120 exhibits. The circular museum is built right next to the company’s head office. The company’s two latest concepts, the BMW M1 Hommage and the BMW GINA Light Visionary, are on display at the museum. Click through for the press release. Press Release: BMW MUSEUM OPENED IN OFFICIAL CEREMONY Munich. On 19 June 2008, Chairman of the Board of Management of the BMW Group, Dr. Norbert Reithofer, opened the BMW Museum in an official opening ceremony. He highlighted the importance of tradition for the company: “Awareness of our heritage, the experiences and developments that our company has been through give us direction, power and inspiration for our workâ€. After a period of construction lasting two and a half years, visitors can look forward to more than 120 exhibits in museum space covering 5,000 square metres. They will be presented in a completely new exhibition concept. The circular museum building right next to the company head office tower will continue to be a landmark. The adjacent low-level building now complements the “Bowl†- as the circular museum building has been designated ever since it was opened in 1973. This has entailed increasing the available floorspace fivefold. The museum will open its doors to the public this coming Saturday, 21 June 2008 from 10.00. As guest of honour, Dr. Norbert Reithofer welcomed Eberhard von Kuenheim, who as Chairman of the Board of Management opened the museum in 1973. Although the exhibition has changed since then, the philosophy of the museum remains the same: “A BMW Museum has to present living corporate heritage. And it must show how BMW defines the future, on the basis of concrete objects,†according to Reithofer. The future was presented in an unusual way at the opening ceremony: 350 apprentices of the BMW Group surprised guests as representatives of the upcoming generation who would shape the history of the BMW Group.
