Seems its an iOS 10 & BMW Connected Drive problem.. according to google. Everything else works fine, just have to initiate play from the phone, Spotify starts automatically. Someone at some stage will issue an update I hope, Ill just copy all my music to the HDD in the mean time,

It doesn't have a media adapter, just a USB plug, unless i missed something, only had the car a couple of days. Under the arm rest there isn't any phone thing like in my X5. Media adapter would be under the armrest right?

Hi, I have a 2016 Connected Drive professional setup in a F31, it pairs my iPhone 5S (ios 10) all fine, and I can play audio either connected via USB, or over Bluetooth. HOWEVER.. I can only start playback by pressing play on the music app on the iPhone itself, seems theres no button or way you can initiate or pause playback from the car itself, have tried the toggle wheel on the steering wheel, and anything else I can press. Is it true that you can only start playback directly from the phone?

Yep got one on the water at the moment. I just dealt direct with the main dealer in the UK, to avoid the middle men, even got them to deliver it for free to felixstowe to be shipped, process is 1) Find car you like, use a main dealer like Sytner who are reputable and have processes for shipping cars overseas, make sure its VAT Qualified (means you get 20% back), not all cars are VAT Qual, generally only Ex Demos, Rentals or Pre Registered cars, I go for pre registered as they only have like 100kms on the clock and are basically new. Car dealers in the UK are not really negotiable like in NZ, you may get £500 off or something, but not huge discounts on listed prices, believe me I have tried at various dealers, and have confirmed this with people I know in the UK. 2) Pay in full, you will probably have to pay the full price, and get the VAT back from the dealer once the shipper confirms shipment, and you provide that back to the dealer, its a simple process, but you would need to just confirm your dealer is all on board first and knows what process they will follow 3) get your documents from the dealer POSTED to you and PDF emailed, and copies created to go to the shipper. You will need V5C, Registration papers, and a HPI check (dealer knows all this, as do the shippers), Dealer will also post you the spare key along with the documents. 3) Ask dealer to deliver car to shipping port, Car gets shipped, we use Autohub, found them really helpful, and have used before, the will deliver direct to the compliance place in Auckland. 4) Pay for compliance, pick up the car. I think thats about it, went pretty smooth last time we did it a few years back, with BMW you get a 2yr worldwide warranty, and you get all the recalls updates etc for free still even from NZ

I'm not referring to kms' I'm saying when you buy a older BMW that's become cheap due to age, you are still buying into the service bills of a car that originally cost $100k+

That's the thing with buying older BMW's you are still buying the service costs of a +$100k vehicle.That said, I haven't found ours to be too expensive, have had Mercs in the past, found them to cost a bit more, and had a Jeep Grand Cherokee, and that was expensive, I found the BMW cheaper as the service intervals are longer, but yes brakes cost a lot to replace. We just bought regular tyres for our X5, about $1k for a set, fitted, non runflat. 315 rear, 275 front, You can fit a space saver into any 5 seater X5, the space is there you just need to push the bolt that secures the space saver to the car through the carpet in the luggage area, no probs As for LCI vs non LCI, I don't think its much more to get a LCI, I always find with BMW that the LCI's fix a lot of issues in the first versions, also the pure white angel eyes look a lot better than the old.I generally never buy a german car on launch date, takes them a couple of years to iron all the bugs and manufacturing issues out, then the LCI is the icing on the cake. I personally wouldn't buy the 3.0 Petrol, I remember from the E53, the 3.0 used as much fuel as the 4.4V8, and wasn't that quick. In the X5 the Diesel is the way to go, the torque is awesome, very brisk 0-100 and amazing fuel economy for the size of car and performance. Also not sure about parts, as we don't have that petrol model in NZ And lastly, Japanese BMW's have quite a few differences over UK or NZ. resale will be a lot less, the UK Imports are pretty much identical to NZ, including GPS, radios, etc.

Hi, I can probably answer most of these, we have a 2010 30D MSport model with the 8 Speed, if you can afford it get the LCI model, we imported ours direct 5 years ago from the UK and have done 110,000kms, and its been nigh on faultless. service intervals are nice and long too as its needs based, not just mileage based. We bought a space saver tyre from new, as the run flats are expensive, and you get a better ride with regular tyres. never had any issues with the Air Suspension, and the MSport looks the best Gets great fuel economy too, if you are careful you can get around 6.6l / 100kms, but usual mileage including around town is about 8.4l /100, but its pretty grunty, lots of torque. We are selling ours shortly, as we have a new car arriving from the UK soon. Lot of bling for your buck, second hand, I would probably avoid a Jap one, get either NZ or UK models.

Yep, no issues , there is a 2 year BMW Worldwide warranty that applies in NZ, we always serviced at main dealer, gets all recall's done for free, haven't had any issues with it being a UK car. We also purchased a 3 year mechanical breakdown policy from AA, but car has been faultless, done 110,000kms on it now. Its easier that you think, I don't even go through any sort of broker, just direct from a dealership in the UK. There is substantial savings buying from the UK, especially with the exchange rate at the moment, as long as you buy VAT Qual in the UK (Which means you can only get new, ex demo, or pre reg) so you can claim 20% UK VAT back,

Hi, I have a new F31 2016 BMW 3 Series on the way to NZ, it has BMW Professional Navigation, internet, apps all that stuff. We did the same a few years ago with a BMW X5, and we purchased the maps from some company in Auckland who sent us a DVD, but I cant find or remember what the name of that company was. Anyone know whos best to take the car too in Auckland to sort out getting the connected drive/maps etc all working? I know I can go to a BMW Dealer to get the maps, but those guys charge like a bull. Also, regarded the connected drive apps etc, I know the built in sim will work in NZ, but I haven't updated the BMW connected drive website with my new owner details just yet, I think it needs a code to go to the car or something, when I had a look online it let me selected the original location of the vehicle, and also the location of where I physically am, then gave a warning about some apps wont work etc etc, so I pressed cancel. Anyone know what the story is with all that?. ie if I go through the connected drive process and select NZ, will it work as if it was a NZ car?, or does something bad happen!. Its very difficult to try and access BMW UK website from NZ as it keeps auto redirecting back to the NZ site Cheers for any help!.

Try Driveline as well, (its an AA policy).. they insured my X5 privately.

All vehicles coming into NZ must have a Certificate of Compliance (COC) however usually this comes from the manufacturer not NZTA, and lists things such as its Euro compliance, fuel econ etc.. However sounds like NZTA also issues these which is odd, as doesnt that mean that the NZTA issues you a certificate to give back to itself.. We got one for free from BMW in the UK prior to shipping over here as to get one here was from memory around $300 from BMW in NZ.

even better, get a VAT Qual one and you get the VAT back @ 20%, then add on NZ GST @15% plus shipping and inspection I reckon you could land one for about $NZD 57k based on UK£28000, thats almost mondeo money.

Hi, I have an 2010 E70 LCI BMW X5, its a UK import and has BMW Assist and Navigation Professional installed and a web browser somewhere, however as im not in the UK the BMW Connected account doesnt work. From reading around it looks like you can use the data connection from my IPhone4 to get some of the online functions working.. Anyone know how to go about doing this?, and whether its possible to purchase the required cradle for an IPhone Cheers

The ETK does give you your options list, its kind hidden at the top of the menu once you have searched your car by VIN.

What minimum spec, Is it just Euro 4 compliance?.

BMW UK will have the full service history in their systems if it was serviced at a BMW dealer. They should be able too search by VIN or UK Reg plate if you know what it used too be. As for price a low milege (25k miles) last of the shape 2006 E46 in the UK is about GBP£12k or about NZ$24k + GST, if you get a VAT Qual one you can get 20% off the UK price, but must be a VAT Qualifying car. So assuming you get a VAT Q car and allowing 3-4K for shipping, $1k for compliance and first registration Total cost to import would be roughly about $27k for a low mileage example. Compare that too the NZ price is your answer.

To be fair to BMW NZ, its really an issue of Exchange Rate at the moment, historically it should be £1 to $3 , not $2. so a £69k would be about $210k in NZ. BMW NZ, cant really go decreasing and increasing prices according to exchange rate all the time, however the NZD has been pretty strong for a while now so would have thought there was some room for movement. I would also wager that although the list price is $240k, I suspect there could be some BMW NZ discounts available to the NZ Dealers if pressed.. just a guess.

Hi, Im 95% sure that all BMW's come with a 2 year International Warranty, Can anyone confirm this for sure? I have imported a 1 year old X5 from the UK and have tried contacting BMW NZ but no reply, and im trying to get some information on the warranty, ie do I have to "register" the vehicle with BMW NZ first?.
