If anyone is interested in checking out the above touring, I'm happy to tag along in mine if you want something to compare.
From memory he wanted to give it chrome bumpers and trim, hence some of the weirdness.

I don't think today's modern cars will still be around as much in 30 years as say the e30.
Mostly in part due to all the electronics that are in modern cars.
It's difficult to get replacement control modules for cars over 10 years old from the dealer, and with NZ having such an old fleet, you'd struggle to get something for your 14+ year old.
I think if you're looking to hold onto a modern car you'd best start learning how to repair electronic boards.- 1

7 hours ago, Vass said:Yeah it's pretty stupid ey. Took me a while to put 2 & 2 together but if the bolts start to protrude at 6 turns in then even with longer bolts you won't get more than 6 turns of thread engagement. OE hubs so this is how it would have rolled out of the factory. Good enough for BMW but not for cert, apparently.
But I'll keep my mouth shut on that one.
Yeah otherwise they'll want you to get thicker hubs.

Sold already. Not surprising at that price.

I'd imagine you'd be looking at either an e36 or e46 m3 clutch and flywheel.
More likely to depend on the gearbox and the input shaft to determine the spline count.
I'll let someone else weigh in with more details.

Everyone knows the road to 0 means the road to 0km/h. Because if no one is driving there won't be any car accidents.

Welcome. Looks to be a tidy catch, and the m40 motor while low on power was pretty reliable for me, was a nice engaging experience in a manual.

I ended up grabbing it. Everything is about what you'd expect for a minimally maintained BMW. Has oil leaks from the valve cover, gearbox is a bit funny to shift into, intake boot is duct taped up to seal a split.
Will uncover more once the weather fines up.
Plan to check the compression, and the gearbox it has, as the vin decoder returns it as an auto. However it does have working cruise control, so its likely been done correctly.

I've found that with the supercheap auto brake spanners they skip. But my regular teng spanners don't have that issue.

I will point out it was free listing on trademe yesterday. So a lot of posts with not a great amount of detail, using photos that they just had last saved on their phone.

I can't see any difference in the paint, the only thing is the door is not perfectly aligned but looks pretty easy to adjust the striker plate so it all lines up perfectly.
Would pay to double check your key works in the door if you haven't already.
Found that one out the hard way once....- 1

Pretty sure it's just the engine mounts from your old m40 go onto the m42. No subframe swapping required. Not that you can easily swap the front subframes.

A red PFL 2 door is a great look but good luck cracking $20k.Another nice looking overpriced PFL - ‘M-Tech’ though? Was there a 323i sport model with the dogleg prior to the Tech 1?

Yeah, if someone could enlighten me on why this one is so much, I get the dog leg box is pretty rare, and it's tidy, but didn't think it would be that desirable.

Same way they prove a driveshaft has been modified professionally. Show a recent receipt for the part/work.
I guess that receipt should also not come from pick a part.

Yeah, sounds like you'd be in for a minimum of a starter and new battery to at least see if it can get cranking again.
But seems odd he's not willing to at least throw that much into it considering how much manual 130i's are currently, and he's done a few deals with cars previously.
Worst case though something has grenaded in the bellhousing, and you're in for a gearbox + motor replacement.
I would have thought replacing a clutch slave would require the gearbox to come off, and then someone misplace the trigger wire for the starter... but I've seen stranger things happen.

Yeah, I do it the gjm way on stock cars. Just drive them onto blocks, and there is enough space to reach all the way back to the drain plug.
On the E30 I have to drive it onto blocks, then put the jack under it, put it on stands and then I'm good to go.
And as M3AN says, if you're wanting to do more than just oil changes, the jack and stands give you way more options.

Ah, it looks like Schmiedmann have some in stock again.
Otherwise Coombes

Normally one of the following. I'm pretty sure they're a bit more active on Facebook. And you'll certainly find these guys if you hunt on the e30 pages.
Andy down in Wellington
Jon B
Nick Weitz (Weitz industries)
Brent (BM World)
I'm not sure if Ray from Hell BM still dabbles in e30s.
As for the heater core, I think you would be better off buying new, otherwise getting yours repaired would be a better bet than second hand.

My aluminium one has lasted well. However I've struggled with making gaskets for it, but that's more likely a me thing.

19 minutes ago, Vass said:True that. Ideally would want something with yearly WoF's though so would prefer something from the 2000-2002 period. Speed isn't that much of a factor when all you're doing is driving 10 minutes to work through a 60-zone.
There are a few 318ti's that are 2000 registered. My one was a great wee runabout

The 318i swapped to an n series motor.
