    4 banger E36

Yeah it is Glacier Blue, color 280 I believe. I am not sure how common this color is but I have never seen another E36 in the color and I know that it was only on cars 91 - 93

    4 banger E36

Here is my E36 Its a 1993 318i with the M40 engine and the GM 4 speed auto It has done 103,000kms as of 15/11/2013 Since buying the car a few months back I have done the following to it: - Straightened up some trim - Put on new alloys - Done the cam belt - Done the pump, thermostat and coolant - Done a lot of suspension bushes I love the car and the condition it is straight and honest but I am thinking about either selling it to buy a manual version or converting this one to manual.
  3. I am looking for a manual conversion kit for my E36. Must be in good condition with all needed parts. Must have: -Flywheel -Pedal Box -Drive Shaft -Clutch Slave -Master Cylinder - Clutch kit Let me know what you have! I am located in Christchurch but shipping is fine. Around $1000.
  4. What are peoples thoughts on a 5 speed with 280000kms on it for a manual conversion?
  5. Hi guys, Looking have a gearbox changed form auto to manual but my regular mechanics seem to be quoting very high. They want over $1000 inc GST for labor alone! This is a far cry from the quote that Brent gave me. Are there any other recommended mechanics that I could try around Christchurch? My quote was around 14 hours labor or they could do it in 7 hours but would need 2 men working on it so labor would be $160 an hour.
  6. Automatic gearbox from a 1993 318i. GM type with 100000kms. Would include all relevant parts.
  7. This is one of the cleanest examples I have seen of an E36 in New Zealand. - Immaculate condition inside and out - 100,000kms - Almost full service history - Cam belt recently done - Water pump recently done - Tensioners recently done - Full coolant flush recently done - Thermostat recently done - Rear control arm bushes recently done - Right hand lower suspension bush recently done - Lots of tire tread left - High end JVC headunit with bluetooth hands free - Mechanically perfect This car is a genuine low kms example. It is a joy to own and to drive. $3500 Located in Christchurch
  8. Who has good places for WOF checks in Christchurch? I am sick of the VTNZ on Jipco road messing me around and telling me things need to be replaced that don't. Spent $200 yesterday getting the ball joint on the front control arm replaced because they said it was worn out. My mechanic said it wasn't but unfortunately when you get it reported it must be replaced in order to get your WOF.
  9. Wtb e36 floor mats in a dark color. Either a set or just the 2 front mats. Located in Christchurch.
  10. Instead of creating a new thread where can I buy Fram oil filters from?
  11. No idea when last changed and have never checked them. Will be doing oil and filter as well as air filter this weekend so may as well change them at the same time
  12. Strange issue happening in the last couple of days. Engine accelerates smooth when warm but when cold the acceleration seems to be lumpy. With the throttle constant the fuel consumption gauge wobbles back and forwards a little and the power is not constant. Its a more > less > more > less... sort of thing. Any ideas?
  13. I am 22 Yes fair point from all of you guys. I will just keep running it at this stage. Not a fan of the M40 would prefer it to be an M43 but you cant expect much for 3k.
  14. Yeah I would say buyers remorse is a fair call. I love the car but I can't afford it right now. Really I need some thing cheaper to run and get me through the next year anyway. I would be happy to let it go for 4k. I realise it is an old 318i but it really is MINT condition with less then 100000kms and over 1200 in recent recipts and that has to be worth some thing.
  15. Yeah sorry its raining here today so no photos. Its a 93 but doesn't seem to have suffered like all of the other early e36 cars. The roof lining for example looks brand new. I paid 3k but spent a bit on it so would like to recover costs.
  16. Just after an idea of value for my car please 1993 E36 318i Auto 98000kms Just spent over $1000 on the car including: Water pump Thermostat Coolant flush Cam belt Tensioners Front control arm bushes Body and interior is almost faultless. The car is the best condition E36 I have ever been in. $4000 - 4500?
  17. Have a 93 E36 318i with the GM automatic. 98000kms on the car and no error codes etc. The car shifts just fine and smooth. When I got the car the thermostat was not right and so temp was everywhere. I replaced it and now the car doesn't like changing into last gear when its cold. Occasionally it will change if I just drop all power and return it. Almost as if it would hold gear if I was going up a hill. When the car warms up though absolutely no problems. Could it just be a case of changing gearbox oil? Or is this commonly caused by some thing else?
  18. Just had a new thermostat put in and the car is holding optimum temperature perfectly. They commented though that the heater taps were very slow to react and would need replacing soon. If they fail am I at risk of overheating the engine or are the heater taps on a separate loop to the main cooling system? I also notice that the air conditioning barley works. Is it usually just a case of a re gas or could it be something more sinister? The car only has 98000kms on it BUT it is a 93 so its 20 years old. EDIT: I have the dual sided climate but not the digital version. Thoughts? I am in Chirstchurch

    E36 Tramlining

He said that he took it out and it was in great condition. Its the proper German one that should last for well over 100000kms. He tested it in hot water and it seemed to work just fine. But the part is ok price and he said it would only be about 20min labor for him to put it in.

Looked back at the receipt for work done that I got and the thermostat WASN'T EVEN DONE!!! Has got me a bit mad to be honest because I asked SPECIFICALLY to have it done.

Car we fine but did take a while to get up to temperature (longer than it should). We also replaced the water pump, would a new pump be causing this? Maybe high speeds = high rpm = high water flow?

    E36 Tramlining

Yeah some thing is wrong somewhere. It sits just about the blue (not in the blue range) when cruising open road and it sits bang on 12 o clock around town.

    E36 Tramlining

Car is back. Drives straight as a nail but the thermostat does not sit at 12 o'clock. All other BMW experience that I have says that the engine temp should be constant and at 12 o'clock. It decreases when cruising over 70kmph. Do thermostats have to wear in? I thought that they just worked asap.
