Sweet mate i think i need to get my car actually not overheating firstsmall case 4 bolt diff looks like this
http://www.trademe.co.nz/motors/car-parts-...n-525705860.htm
medium case 6 bolt diff looks like this
http://www.trademe.co.nz/motors/car-parts-...n-525416437.htm
if it was a 320i it would normally have a small case 3.91 to 4.1 etc
std 325i normally use a 3.64 medium case.
but there are also variations on this of course.
all depends on how many revs you want to be doing at say 100km/h in 5th gear
try this
http://members.dodo.com.au/~wawawa/revs.htm
enter the gearbox type getrag 240 or 260.
put wheel/tyre size in .
then try some different ratios like 3.25 ,3.46 , 3.46 , 3.73, 3.91 4.1 , 4.45 etc
ps. also e30 dont use 8 bolt large case diffs ,
thats what 5 ,6 , 7 & 8 series normall use
V8's v12 ,M5 and big six engines like 3.5l 4L 4.4l 5L etc
or e36 e46 M3 3.2L etc
they look like this

hae bro who did u buy your e30 off cause i think i built this one. if it is the dif is still the same auto diff. because i did a full manual conversion at the same tym i put the b25 in.
Ive pmd u
-
are you still selling this??
-
how much for motor, loom etc. for an e30 conversion? how many kms? what condition is it in?
-
has anyone got a cheap m20b25 for a engine refresh or possibly a m50 depending on price.
-
ok thanks might just keep the e30 off the road for a bit and have a proper check on it.
-
i have nothing else to think of than having a cracked head. Because everything else is working as it should be
-
just drove it without thermostat it took about 2 mins longer to start climbing again. fully over this.
-
Did you try this suggestion? Sometimes it's the most simple things that catch you out aaaannd air pockets can be a b!tch to get out sometimes!
how do i check for air and get it out??
-
yes, no need to put the rubber ring in though
well that means its not the thermostat then
i have no idea at all then im gonna try it without the thermostat to see if there is water passing through it.
-
ive done that and it opens and closes fine so im puzzled
-
-
did you check the thermostat??
pull it out put it in some boiling water and see if it opens.
you cant adjust the dizzy.
did it overheat will driving?? or when sitting still??
air in the coolant system??
so just take the whole thermostat out and put it in a bucket with hot water??
Overheat while driving but it slowly climbs at idle
-
Try advance your timing on the dizzy cap?
How do i do that??
-
my car is still overheating.
I just changed the viscous clutch on the fan and took it for a drive and the old e30 is still overheating just before my cruise tommorow that i organised 3-4 months ago i need to find the problem im thinking thermostat could i just run my car without it for the cruise then find the problem??
-
How do i know which diff ratio i need. There is a cheap medium case 8 bolt on trademe 4.1 ratio. My e30 is a 88 it is a 320i with a m20b25 done by previous owner so dont know if gearbox was changed

If the whine isn't that bad, you can just put up with it. BMW diffs are pretty strong and would continue to work for a long time
I got told to put a banana skin in there to stop the whine
-
rebuild or buy a new diff
small case or medium case.
If you've got the gear and time to rebuild it I can go into it in more detail
I have no idea what the difference is. Is there anything appearance wise that would make me tell the difference?
-
My car has just started to diff whine n its really annoying what do i do???
-
its in the latest performance car mag

Pulled out of my sedan when i changed to H&R. Nothing wrong with them to the best of my knowledge have simply been sitting in a box for about 12 months.
Free to a good home just come and take them away.
Mt albert.
Ill have them
-
i used a hack saw then cleaned up the ends with a grinder, got them flush and had as much of the head on it as possible. it worked fine but went to take them back off after about 7 months and the bolts arnt moving. i did have another set of bolts with a spline thread that i had to use for one and that was the easiest of the lot to remove. all i can say is be carefull, the bolts will be a pain and paint the spacers black as im guessing you wont be certing it straight away.
They are already black which is a added bonus so everyone reckons grind them down may as well give it a go
-
Just grind them down so they sit flush with the spacer. Plenty of room.
Ok sweet ill giv that a try
-
So when you grind em down is there enough head left to be tightend
diff ratio
