  1. I dont know if anyones mentioned this yet but arent M54s notorious for

overheating/warping etc. when the cooling system isnt maintained?

Errrr this car is in urgent need of cooling system maintenance

so engine failure could be on the list next maybe haha

Aslan remember these are just the current faults with the vehicle

    Murphys law states..

'when you have fixed this load of problems a new load of problems will be waiting'

I dont know how much your paying for the vehicle but if you have to finance it

your spending too much on what is essentially a project car

The guys on here really do know what they are talking about for the most part

and no offence but by the sounds of it you know nearly nothing about cars/mechanics.

In the end its your call but do you really think your qualified to dispute

what BMW mechanics and long time bmw owners/fanatics have to say about the

    purchase of this car?

ps +1 for this car is a lemon haha

  2. I wasnt sure which forum to post this in as I wanted to keep it an open discussion

so MODS if you dont like it move it

Im studying for a National Certificate in Engineering atm

and for one of the unit standards I have to develop a "fool proof jig

for repeatable quality manufacturing"... or something.

Ive already made a shortened hilux diff and transfered the suspension points for some

old starlet race car, but I want to make a second jig project to keep my tutor happy :D

Anyway I thought for my project I could make an M50/52 Turbo manifold jig

using the M52 steel manifolds as a base.

Manifold will be kinda like this but of higher quality haha

    post-1764-1311380207.jpg

It looks a bit rude but it will be possible to make a fancier manifold with the jig as well

So does any one want to give/sell me a pair of M52 manifolds for free/cheap for the prototype?

  3. Can you not just drill the bearing in the top hat so the

shaft can fit through then use a 20mm spacer/washer under the nut?

EDIT - has anyone got some more pics on those rear shock mounts?

I might have a go at making some.

EDIT AGAIN- just realised why you cant do what I said haha

Shock will come through top hat obviously.

If you have access to a lathe you could make the skinny bit by the thread lower

down the shaft and use a spacer maybe?

  4. Trouble with Eaton M90s is they put a LOT of hot air out, especially once you get past half a bar of pressure. It then gets to the point where it is mandatory to run an intercooler of some type and/or water alcohol injection.

Is this due to back pressure behind rotors or supercharger speed?

The reason I ask is sometimes people get confused with psi on

superchargers as it will develop differing pressures on different engine capacities.

  5. Probably not.

But I bet there is a market for people wanting M3 performance for $60,000+ less than an M3. Actually the 1M was quicker than the M3 around the top gear track, so you're actually paying less for a quicker car.

    This is true

though if I wanted a fast bmw and wanted to spend less than a new m3 then

Id just by an old m3 but thats just me.

TBH I dont get the new car market, I cant imagine spending so much money on a car

when you can spend less on an older model modify it and have something faster

for less than half the price.

in fact the only reason id buy a new car would be if i could go back in time about 50yrs

and buy a few american cars and sell them at todays prices.

And yes i realise with out new car buyers there wouldnt be a second hand market

  6. But for me nothing will beat E46 CSL. I know its not manual, but everything about that car says drive me! and drive me hard! If BMW would put the 1M engine in CSL and put the manual gearbox in it!!! Thats all I would want to drive all my life!!! :)

BLASPHEMY!!! the best part of the CSL is the engine!!!!

That sound makes me joygasm every time i here it

I dont like the 1M, its ugly, its small seems kind of pointless to me

I can understand BMW having M3 and M5 to fill medium and large car markets.

but whats the point of a 1M?

Is there a "I want to go fast but I cant drive an M3 because its to big for me" market?

And I never thought small cars were a performance purchase

I thought they were a 'car for the wife to get the groceries' purchase.

  7. agreed m90 would be a much better sc for the application

another cheap alternative is that mazda millercycle engine SC which is twin screw

ive heard theyre prone to fail though

but regarding the sc14 when i looked into using one for my m50 i read the

max efficient speed was 9750-10k rpm

at that speed wouldnt the OP have around 8psi?

  8. I dont know why i bother to help at times cause i dont know crap but for those who might pay attention one of the reason its running low psi is the blowers displacement is too small for the motor as would be the sc14 but im sure it wont stop you trying it.

If you start trying to spin it harder then enjoy rebuilding blower and motor, max psi based on pulley size even on the 4age was 11psi before over speed and that my friend was 1600cc have fun

I trust you know your sh*t man but a page back you posted this...

if you copy off the oem setup you got it from you cant go to wrong, from mem you cant spin them any harder than 14k

If SC14 can spin 14k wouldnt that mean it could theoretically develop over 14.7psi on a

2.8l if you limit engine speed to 6500rpm?

  9. i've put the old 415 injectors back in now and taken out the 440's, and i got a boost guage from work and ran it into my car took it for a small drive, turns out its boosting an unimpressive 3.5psi and drops to 2.5psi at 6500rpm, going to source a smaller pulley for the charger. atm its 115mm diameter, any help sourcing one would be nice, did the sc14 come out with a smaller clutch pulley??? or does the sc12 have a smaller one that fits??

Did you have a look at RB25 alternator pulley?

I think i measured it around 70mm if i remember correctly.

Have you checked your EGT's with standard injectors when on boost?

Would be interesting to know if they feed enough on 3.5psi

I was leaning like a mofo when I had 415s on my turbo setup at 8psi

4000rpm was max revs before it would start farting around
