  1. With the 540i I just purchased comes a key and a big ugly RF unit with a single button. I want to replace this as cheap as possible with a key that has a built in button for remote central locking. Apparently the alarm in my E34 is a "3G Mk1" "3G Mk1 (sometimes known as 3C) – This system was used on the E34 & E36 up to 1996 and uses a static code The "missing corner" single button fob is only user programmable with some difficulty. You’ll need a working fob, then you need to solder and de-solder connections on the new fob circuit to match (See below for details). The other option is programming by a BMW Dealer/BMW Independent/Sigma Alarm Agent. Only one siren type was used (see below). Fobs turn up regularly on eBay for around £5 to £10. The alarm module comes in two parts. The module (the large bit) and the remote receiver (the small bit). Those familiar with the 3G Mk2 below will note that the module is identical except for the absence of the coding switch. It is possible to upgrade the 3G Mk1 to a 3G Mk2 by replacing the entire module or just the remote receiver part but you need to check the wiring is identical. For both the above systems you may have read articles on the web that state you can program the alarm by opening the boot, closing the door, turning the ignition on 5 times, etc. These instructions are for the USA spec alarm made by Alpine and apart from giving your neighbours a laugh they won’t do anything in UK spec cars regardless of the system you have."
  2. Hmmm I can't really afford to go the whole hog. I'll keep the cat when it's removed so I can put it in if it's horrid. The tech from Eurorec gutted his cat and it sounds pretty nice.
  3. Booked in to get the cat cut out and a straight pipe (with the o2 sensor installed) in place tomorrow at Magoo.
  4. Ah interesting, It's not from the filler tank thats for sure. I'm not sure exactly where the water is coming from, it just ends up dripping from roughly where the front headlight squirters are. Hopefully it's easy to find out? - Take it you have to get under the car to access them rather than through the bonnet?
  5. Apparently this is a common problem? Whats the easiest way to block + disable the headlight washing system to stop the leak?
  6. Bid on them here: http://www.trademe.co.nz/Browse/Listing.as...002&ed=true $99 reserve Better than buying new tyres!!
  7. hahah It's all good they're not for everyone My mate owns whitewalltyres.co.nz so I got it done at 'mates rates'. They're not very expensive even at full price though, check out their website!
  8. Thanks dude! Two are them are a bit scuffed up, one in particular, any recommendations on somewhere cheap to take them?
  9. -18''s -White walled -Full body cut -Serviced -Auto service booked in for wednesday -Installing new head unit now...
  10. It's up on the hoist. 18''s from another 540 going on. Bilstine springs going in on Monday. And guess what? The car is MINT underneath! Yay
  11. Great, thanks for the heads up. How much lower would you go? I don't want it to be too bumpy / a cop-magnet. I will probably be able to spend upto maybe 2800 including removing the tape deck (heh). I'm off to Eurorec today to look for suspension and wheels. If I don't find any decent setups there I'll look at getting something new. What oil do you guys use in yours? Just the standard semi 15-40? Edit: why would flushing the trans make It worse? It's done 130miles so that's about 210kms
  12. BTW - the tranny holds in 2nd when cold so am going to do a flush ASAP.
  13. Mmmm if only I had the $! I'm only staying in NZ for the next year and a half. I have about $2000 to spend on the car and am looking at doing whatever ASAP. Need it to stay very reliable. Too true!
  14. Just bought this beast, she's old but seems to drive alright. Picked it up this-arvo from Gaza. Off to Eurorec tomorrow to tidy it up a bit and maybe put some nicer wheels on her. Anyone here want to quote me for a manual conversion (better be quick before I spend my $!) EDIT: 18'' Schnizer M5 wheels Whitewall tyres USB/iPod/Mp3 Headunit installed Oil+Filter done Air box debaffled Fluids refreshed Spark plugs replaced (Felt strange asking for 8 plugs at the shop!) Full cut and polish on body Transmission service booked in for Wednesday Old photos removed - this is why she looks like now:
  15. Not the first time I've had that said to me. I'm young, but I've owned a LOT of different cars from different manufacturers, BMW's are by no means perfect, but they have this fantastic nack' (to me at least) of feeling more like an extension (no, not that kind of extension!) than a utility, I really truly think they're crafted very well and styled with being timeless in mind (well, most models espesh E21,E30,E36,E46,E34). Anyway, what ever you end up getting - I hope you enjoy it!
  16. Just imagine how good you'll feel when you roll up in your brilliantly crafted 540, you take them for a ride knowing the whole time that you're driving something that's designed for more than just utilitarian use. *Grins*
  17. Yeah aye, E34 540 + Manual conversion = Very Happy Chappie. So much more style than a Holden, even for an older car...
  18. I had a manual 320 (e36 mind you), It was a good wee car, but I got annoyed by two things: -Basically the same power as a 318. -Basically the same fuel consumption as a 325.
  19. SOLD! I'm considering the idea of selling or swapping my 328 Manual Coupe back to an old E30. I would be after a 325 manual OR some sort of custom setup unless it's something lesser + cash my way or perhaps even a really nice 5 series - I am not interested in anything that _needs_ work done. Info about my 328: Coupe / 2-Door MANUAL!!! M50 intake conversion, I also have the M52 intake - that comes with the car too. Strong M52B28 Twin-Cam Vanos Engine in good condition. I have mod-chipped the ECU: - Flashed with the latest software - Advanced timing - Fuel map re-done Lightweight flywheel 16'' BMW sport alloys Sunroof Electric Sports Seats Key-less entry / Remote locking ABS Brakes Airbags In over all very good condition. 180km's. A trade would be great, but if we're talking $ I'd probably be looking for 6500 to bimmersport. Please PM me with your questions / offer.
