  1. Most of the cost in making kits is in fact in making the moulds- I have two kayak moulds , they cost $20,000 each to make

The materials cost $1,100 and the labour is around $1500 we do them in Kevlar & epoxy. The cost in glass and polyester would be $100 less on materials - and 100 less on labour (less skilled people)

So a good kit is as mentioned only incrementally more - trouble is the kit market is driven predominantly by price

I agree re making th emould is most of the cost. We were looking at getting moulds made for PU kits until we got quoted the price - $50K US per vehicle!!

  2. Perhaps you would like to pull your head in. The comments were objective about the quality of the product in the photos not the style and they remain valid. And if you wish me to qualify my ability to make such comments I have been involved composites from kayaks to Americas cup class yachts.

If you don't like facts then that is your problem and lets dispense with the petty attitude and sniping - if you can't make an objective comment please refrain.

P.S. you may wish to indicate whether your objection to the comments implies any association with them

My point was the way you come across - extremely abrasive as Gus pointed out. There are far better and more appropriate ways to make your point. I wasn't questioning whether you were wrong or right just for the record. Perhaps you are the one that needs to pull his head in, in this case at least.

PS: these kits have no association with me or the business I run.

  3. That is a seriously LOW GRADE kit -- the maker has used a lot of filler to get the exterior finish quality up to a reasonable standard and the fibre behind it is dry.

This kit must weigh a ton the filler will be so brittle it would crack when stressed or flexed and the dry fibre means it is weak as !!

On a decent kit the filler or gel coat layer is between 0.1 and 0.3 mm thick only - where did you source the kit so we know NOT to buy from these guys.

My first reaction was what a w#&nker!! If you can't say anything nice keep your mouth shut, there are far better and nicer ways to get your point across. That surely must contravene the forum rules. Deserves to be banned or at the least a 2 star warning!!

Anyway back to your kit, definitely different and will look a whole lot better when painted!

  4. possibly a little of both and we didn't have time to lower the front.... has self levelling rear too. Will prob drop it 35mm or so in the next day or two.

  5. just thought I would share with you all a 528 touring we did today. One of the better looking cars I have seen in a long time!

PS the car is for sale through a dealer

  6. I am of mixed opinions when it comes to personalised plates and I own one (2TMPTN). It has only ever been on one of my cars (A VR4) cos the rest really were not up to standard.

I see a lot of plates around and most of the time have a chuckle or think "yeah... good one" when they are done properly or are clever. What I CAN'T STAND though is the people that have obviously seen a plate and copied it but use a '5' for an 'S' or a '4' for an 'A' etc. My ususal response and 90% of the time out loud is "tosser". What I also don't get is the people that put the model of their car on the plate eg BMW325.

  7. we have just had contact with the factory that makes these wheels!! Unfortunately to get them made we have to do minimum 100 pieces at a time in one colur, pcd and offset. My boss is working on a stocklist to see if they have any lying around and that we could buy.

We also have 15*7 et20 wheels arriving end of this month!! primarily for E30 race class, but will post a pic up as soon as I find one!!

  8. A 215/35/19 will work but the wheel offset will have more to do with guard rub than anything else. Some brands of tyre tend to have a narrower "shoulder" than others so will look more "stretched " than others.

PS: have you got the tyres already? If not let me know and what your budget is - we normally carry at least 20 in stock

    Cheers
