  1. cant confirm yet as car not with me til the end of the week but that sounds good.

can you get me a price so i know what im dealing with? incl shipping etc if you can? would like it intact as much as possible with the bolts ons incl so i have less i could potentially stuff up. i could ship old engine/bolts on's on back to you if wanted?

is there alot more work needed to fit a alloy m52?

    Thanks mate,

    liam

vanos has a buldge in the front edge of the rocker cover .

    non vanos does not .

i have some good vanos M50 2.5L engines ,if needed

if its not i can supply with ecu etc to run it

  2. is yours auto or manual now . what size engine 2l or 2.5l

might be better just to swap std engine in , and sell it on than try and convert to something else unless you get it cheap and can do all the work yourself etc .

3.5l engines go from a $500-1500 but a manual gearbox kit will set up back a lot more than a auto to match .

might bette to go to a M52 328i engine with a manual .

    up to you .

    ps. i have some std m50 2l and 2.5L vanos engines .

    from e36 etc .

    02143600

    its a auto and 2.5L,

im really looking for a simple conversion that wont need much (if any) modifications. something that can just be dropped in and away.

does going from m50 to m52 fit this? would it just be a case of different engine mounts? how much modification does the loom need coz i couldnt do this myself?...

and a 2.5L m50 from a e36 is alloy right? but the same block?

what do you recommend? i would love to get abit more power out of her but also get it back on the road soon and are limited by lack of funds atm!

    Thanks heaps!

    Liam

  3. Hi there,

while away on our ski'n adventure we had some trouble!

Turns out the radiator we had was brittle and the top hose mount snapped on the bumpy ski access sending fluid everywhere! pulling over straight away wasnt quick enough to save her as the head has gone.

Now wanting to know how much a replacement engine should set me back incl shipping to dunedin and also how much a m30b35 and box is to see if i could justify a upgrade.

i understand as i have the m50 motor some minor loom adjustments would be needed for upgrade?

would love it if the engine was as complete as possible as i would be attemping transplant myself for the most part and arnt the most knowledgable..

thanks heaps! i would love to get this girl back on the road in the next 6 months or so as it wil be dependant on funds! im a student :(

  4. Dare to do something different Gus...... buy a little girls car.... E36 Mtech Compact... M52B30....manual ...LSD

and then throw a nice big SC at it ??? :P

that sounds awesome! i hear they make pretty good rally cars with VW 4x4 units and a s14 engine!

well done rick good deal! alot of fun i bet.

  5. hi there,

havent owned car for long but opportunity come up to head overseas for the uni holidays with friends so could let this go and downgrade in the next few weeks.

white NZ new e34 touring 525i.

full service history with bmw dealers up until 40k ago. currently on approx 230k.

auto with sportmode. massive sun roof which opens both ways! very cool!

in great condition! runs very well though my mother has told me it doesnt idle well when cold sometimes.-has always run well for me so cant comment. ready for a service about now but because im a student i cant look after it as well as id like too!

only issues car has to my knowledge:

loose wiring in tailgate, dash sometimes showing door open when its not the case.

rubber worn on back passenger window which means winding window up can be a issue as it rubs.

car is driven daily and has been amazing on trips away with the extra boot space. will be missed esp in the ski season!

would be looking for $4000.00 but as im very keen to join my friends this holidays i might take something lower..

    will arange pictures soon!

    thanks, liam

  6. Help please! :)

Only had the car a few weeks but knew there would be some little things that needed doing.

door sensor off i think? dash beeps at me saying a door is open when its not-how do i know which sensor needs to be replaced? and can i disarm this in the meantime?

Car not idle'ng at all. She starts ok but if i take my foot off the gas the revs drop to below 500 rpm and stalls. any ideas?

i would rather not take it to bmw in dunedin for a full service as im a poor student, but if thats whats needed to test i will do. is it as simple as running a diagnostic to determine fault?? it could be a number of things right? car in really good nick with full service history........

  7. I suggest you go and reread your original post  . When you have put wheels on and lowered in excess of 200 BMW's I will bow to your "superior knowledge".

17x8 at 40ET - the offset is "waaaaaay too high" (hope I have enough A's in there) INCORRECT!! the standard e36 offset is around +/-41

If you are after dish you need a 5/7 series wheel - INCORRECT - again!! There are plenty of wheels out there with huge dish at the correct offset. Maybe not in the BBS style that he is looking at. Did you also consider that the wheels you have shown pics of may have had custom made lips with the correct offset centre?

Suggesting running 5 or 7 series offset wheels on a 3 series is bad advice - PERIOD!

I really don't have the time or inclination to tell you about the effect that the incorrect offset wheels can actually have on your hub harriers, suspension points etc.

FACT- running low offset wheels and then spacers will push the wheels further out!

I am not sure where I said it was illegal to roll guards?

I am and always have been of the opinion that you correct wheels to fit your car, and I make no apologies for that. You shouldn't be buying wheels and then trying to make them fit, its kind of like closing the barn door after the horse has bolted.

IF you can prove to me (rather than just show a pic) that that wheel is the offset you say it is I will gladly withdraw my comments. A picture doesn't prove anything unless you have the evidence to back it up.

BTW: I agree they look sh#t hot!! on the car :D

and.......... you didn't really help nastnas - he asked where he could get some from, or if they came up very often :P , Hiteks post was probably the most heplful so far.

How about we just try and help the man out? Rather than waste time bickering back and forth between us.

chill out and have a happy evening.

lol, off topic but i LOVE the barn door quote...best of 2009!

    +1!

  8. hi guys, bought myself a new bmw, not a e21 yet but i dont mind waiting. its on the north shore and i was needing someone to pick it up for me/store it until i can arrange pickup. it would only be for a few weeks, laurence (old school bmw) is going to drive it back for me.

just id trust a BimmerSport member over this guy i havent met!

id transfer the funds to ya so you could pay cash on pick up.

    anyone keen?

    liam

  9. goodluck man, hard to come by and usually cost a fair bit.. maybe a few mods and fit a skyline diff?

there was a e21 LSD on TM about a year ago that had a starting price of $800 that didnt sell...might still be around

does anyone know if any other clutch packs fit standard dif?

  10. 540 > 325.

    I'd rock a stripped, manual 540i over a crappy 30.

And listen to CamB, any power in an E30 is an expensive exercise. If you just want cheap power/giggles get a Japanese car. Chances are said Japanese car would have a better suspension setup too.

If I were after a overpowered road car I'd get the aforementioned 1JZ Altezza. Over any BMW.

    *dons flame suit*

    LOL JiB...

your asking for trouble there....love it

  11. personally i think joshnz asked for this. and can understand penry's fustration.

joshnz publicly makes claims about pervious owner (who we very well know was penry) so penry should be able to publicly refute them..

you didnt exactly buy the car sight unseen josh!

presently the car does look nice tho...

    goodluck with sale...........
