  1. It's LHD, will be ex-Japan, and may be a bit tired. If there's a hint of needing an engine rebuild the price should reflect it (very expensive to rebuild).

I know of several that have sold for under $20k in average condition. Having said that, if that one is in reasonable shape it would be a good car for the money, IMO.

key thing is tho its road legal-no red tape or law changes needed! rebuilt isnt that expensive unless you high spec (15K)

TWR has sold a few under 20K but they havent been in the best of condition or road legal..

  2. chosing paint is hard huh! for me, its one of those things you'll love as soon as its done then wish you had done something different later as you get bored of it..

whats the bronze color bmw used in the 1970's anyone? LOVE that color tho not sure if it would look good on a later model bmw... i had a e21 in it..

  3. Found another HERE for sale along with an assortment of other fine examples of M3s M6s and 2002s etc, ect.

Some nice cars and some interesting price examples.

a road legal black e30 m3 for 25k...must be a reason it hasnt sold?

anyway thanks guys. understand now its a bit of a touchy subject, all i wanted to know was if i needed to adjust my expectations..like everyone id rather buy a bargain!

  4. can i just add,

i am and have always been happy to pay a higher price for a rare car. an example was my e30 m3 i owned last year, and if i thought the 323i was worth $7500 i would happily pay that too..

i find the level of hassle on this post puzzling when the vast majority of posts under "trademe discussions" relate to price, its perfectly acceptable to spot a bargain but not a potentialy bad buy? MY opinion as i stated was that the car was overpriced but i have never been of the mind "my opinion is always right" infact often my opinion has been proved not totally correct. which i take on the chin..i have owned a 323i e21 not long ago of which i payed 1 grand for. laurence, "old_school_bmw" can vouch for that as it was him i got it off. having owned a e21 and in the market for a while you could say my opinion may be worth more than many, but i dont see it that way that is why i asked for help..

points noted guys! though it will be interesting to see weither other similar post get these sorts of negative comments.

"everyone can be tough behind a computer-the trick is not to make yourself look like a fool"

  5. thanks to simon and crockett i have confirmed my expectations wernt totally unrealistic. as expected/always i will make an offer below the asking price, i price i think its worth considering the value of similar e21 around. however im not in a hurry to buy one at a exuberant price.. i will keep collecting pennies for other aspects of my life/project...

    cheers guys!

  6. ^ give that man a pie (kiwi535)

The cars worth what the buyer pays for it, hence the term ASKING PRICE :rambo:

asking price doesnt always mean people are willing to pay that. i know how a market works!

presuming you had interest in the car (which i really dont) would you consider his asking price "fair"

  7. my opinion is its complete and utter waste of time discussing what a car is worth with a whole bunch of people who have no interest in buying the F^%$# thing.Just shut up and make a bid (s) and live with it

thanks for your opinion...although for a person with "no interest" in buying the "F^%$#" thing i find it strange you clicked on the topic titled "E21 323i"

for future post on this "topic" from "nice honest BS members"---- PLEASE can i have CONTRUCTIVE feedback from people INTERESTED in the car in question...

    thanks

  8. No I don’t read well but that has nothing to do with my opinion.

It is listed at a price that someone will pay if they want it.

I wanted a E30 wagon, so I paid the exuberant price they are so I could have something different, just like the guy that brought my Corolla GT off me did.

The best things in life are rare and rare things are expensive, that’s the way it is.

yes but how "exuberant" is "too exuberant"??

surely there was a price you were NOT willing to pay for your wagon?

"It is listed at a price that someone will pay if they want it."- this comment is so ludicrous it doesnt warrent an answer.

  9. I think it will be hard to gauge what you should pay for an e21 323i by discussing it in a thread such as this. I've found that when trying to figure out what something like this is worth, you need to take into account the following things

    1. How much is it worth to you? Never pay more than that.

    2. Only listen to the opinions of people who know what they are talking about. It will be difficult in this situation as I don't think there are too many people who "trade" in e21 BMW's. I think this car is worth $3k tops, but then again I am not qualified to give an opinion.

    3. Disregard the opinion of someone who currently owns one, as the figure they give will likely be overinflated as they compare it to what they think theres is worth. Examples of this are when people ask on this site what an E30 / E36 is worth...

    4. Don't be afraid to make an offer, no matter how low. Some people selling cars like this which seldom pop up, often need a dose of reality. A couple of people throwing realistic offers at them will hopefully help them come to their senses.

    Good luck!

    thanks Crockett, understand fully---points noted...

  10. What is the point of this though?? I can jump on trade me and list cars that I would love but can’t afford too

    http://www.trademe.co.nz/Trade-Me-Motors/C...n-159732629.htm

    see :P

the point is, i want a good deal? and dont want to find a 323i in better nick a month later for a third of the price!

would you have payed 30 grand for your e30 touring? no because there are mint ones around for half the price...

    keep it constructive maybe?

  11. Liam

For what it's worth I think that $7500 is too much. My opinion so don't get ratty people ;)

I wouldn't pay it and yes, togate's E30 even without the BBS wheels looks better buying

These things do come up from time to time and are not always this pricey although they come in all states of repair. It's hard to tell much from this auction but get more info and pics (especially interior and engine bay) from the bloke and see if you can find out why he's asking that much. Doesn't look mint to me.

    Good luck

    Thanks! id have to agree.......

  12. its his call isnt it.Not many come up for sale now so who is to say what the market value is.

of course its his call but that doesnt make it realistic... six months ago a 323i didnt sell for 3 grand, opinions on what other BS members think on value would be great. if you all think its realistic i may just pay what he is asking :)

Cars worth what someone’s willing to pay ;)

    as i said above?!

    cheers

  13. interested on what you guys think of this price?? im after one but think this is crazy..

would rather have the 2.7 e30 togates selling for this coin..

love the e21's and know cars only worth what someones willing to pay but still think this is a bit off market value?

opinions on a more realistic price would be awesome!.

  14. Found a good e21 to use yet?

nah nothing around atm, saw a nice blue 323i few months back on TM but i still had my m3 then...would have bought it then and dont even think it sold? may still be in his garage as he was asking 3 grand i think...

if something doesnt come up soon im going overseas for a holi and will look again around november....

  15. doesn't sound too bad, though I'd definately ring round a few wreckers. If it is just the long block (ie head, block, and pan) it could get very expensive by the time you've brought intake and exhaust manifolds, alternator, PS pump, cooling system, mounts, ecu and loom to run the thing.

That said, given that it a transplant and you want more power half that stuff I listed may end up being custom or from another motor anyway so could save you cash if you dont need it anyway.

Are you planning to run stock ecu or something after-market. I'm not sure how the aftermarket ones deal with double vanos, then again the factory one could cause all sorts of dramas with different sensors and EWS etc.

yeh that was going to be my next question...i really dont know regarding ecu, in the long term i would like run a ESS supercharger and they run off the stock ecu.. sooo not sure just yet, would love to use the stock ecu if possible...having sed that im not too confident i could run a ESS supercharger giving that i prob will end up having alot of custom parts...short term tho i just want the engine in and going, should haul standard anyway..

  16. long and short block is how complete the engine is. Short block will probably only be the block, crank, and piston assembly. Long block should have oil pan, head and all the valve train, and the block too.

Long block may or may not include the other bits like manifolds and various pumps and alternator.

Id just be after the most complete one you can find.

Oh fair enough! i thought maybe it was something to do with what wether the car came from us or uk...dif models lol... so m54b30 longblock for $1700 good price?

  17. hey there are there anybody in here that know of any information on the whereabouts i could source a turbo kit from as i would like to turbo my E28 i am doing an engine swap out of a 83 model 525i into mine as my one is a lil old due to the fact that it has been around the clock 3 times and the engine that i would be getting has been reconditioned and has a guarantee of 200.000kms.

PM Topcat, and have a look at the dyno sheet in "E21 engine transplant" in performance..

tried and tested gear that goes very hard! you could buy it off him for heaps less than what it will cost you to fab yourself!
