  1. Mike - We only had a small bit of smoke pouring from the centre console, very lucky! Atta - I ended up going with a 1.9 shifter. It's short, but not too short and much notchier than the standard one. I quite like it. I have a picture somewhere with the difference in lengths that I will post at some point.
  2. The bad news - my car almost caught on fire and all my hard work wasted The good news - the smoke helped me locate a contact that had been causing all my light issues!! About 6months ago I removed a cassette holder which goes in the centre console between passenger and drivers seat. There were 2 f**king wires which were connected to this and both were not insulated. What caused it to smoke at the exact moment we were replacing the washer fluid we have no idea...but bloody lucky it happened when it did! Replaced a few bulbs which were blown, and because of the previous issue the remaining lighting issues were resolved! Hooray!! Took her for a quick drive on the motorway to manukau and back home. Shimmy is almost gone (another good job!!). I'm hoping a decent alignment tomorrow will make it dissappear for good (cross fingers!). After alignment i'm off to get a WOF!!.....with everything basically replaced on the car I don't see a reason for it to fail????????????????????
  3. Hmmm...those schnitzers are tempting..........
  4. Hey guys, I'm after a new bmw bonnet badge. I'm unsure of the size...but it's for an e34. I am not looking for a second hand one (unless in perfect condition) or any of the carbon fibre junk. Cheaper is obviously better. I have found one on TM for $22 which I think will fit?? But wanted to see what else there is. thanks
  5. Thanks guys . She runs sweet as! I am OHHH so happy I did all the maintenance while she was out of action. Have the obvious 'trans program' error, but will have a chat to Ross at BM Workshop to remove this and recode the DME to a manual one (like he did to his converted 540i). The only thing I can think of which I havn't replaced (mechanically, apart from a new engine) is engine mounts (to be done soonish) and wheel bearings haha! There is a slight issue where I think I might have put the shifter linkage connector (thing at back of gearbox which the linkage goes through) upside down when replacing the selector shaft seal and this is rubbing against something. When I attempt to go for 1/2 or Reverse I feel a vibration as if it's rubbing against something (driveshaft??) I had four people in the car (including myself) and gave it a little juice in 2nd (going easy on the clutch and not changing gear while revs are high or accelerating when clutch isn't fully engaged) and it goes quite well . A full costing will be sorted in the days to come for those interested. A quick guesstimation is that the conversion was done for less than 5k (not including the maintenance carried out on other parts of the car). ...and compulsory videos are planned once it has a current WOF
  6. f**k YEAH! All my (and my mates) hard work has come to fruition!! Took it for a 10min spin around my neighbourhood, I am very pleased. Words cannot describe how happy I am Only took it easy, but my god it's awesome. A few small issues to sort for WOF (light bulbs etc) but it's going!!!!! :D :D :D I also want to say a HUGE Thanks to everyone who has helped me/supplied parts and information. There are too many to mention, but you ALL know who you are . Thankyou.
  7. Gavin the legend has sorted the drag link for me. A big thanks to Matt45 (member on here) for picking this up for me while I was at work! Will install it first thing tonight and go for a quick drive! (all going well, which with my luck might not happen :S)
  8. Awesome. No helmet, on gravel, in old porsche, with engine in rear and rwd....I'd need a change of pants....
  9. The drag link I have is longer than the one which I pulled out of the car. So the front wheels are pointing inward towards the engine (I think that's toe in? haha) Once I get it fully drivable I will pop by and compare. Thanks Brent
  10. She runs. She rolls. A slight issue with incorrect centre drag link (I think it might be out of e39 or something?) so it provides WAY too much toe in. Going to call Gavin tomorrow and see what he can do for me in regards to a refund/swap and swap out tomorrow if possible. Other than that she goes ok, only drove it about 50cm forward and backward ensuring it moves though Clutch issue - I can only think that the pedal is incorrect. The master cyl part number matches real oem, I tried another Master cyl as well thinking it was faulty, no luck. Have fully bled the system well over 15 times. I figured f**k it and unfortunately did the one dodgy thing on this car...drilled a new hole in the pedal. The master cyl now gets full travel (where it didn't before) and the clutch fully disengages........ *edit* - z3 short shift is also in...thanks Jason

Awesome! Love the video, god that sounds awesome! PS. Did I say awesome??
  12. Good stuff. Try Gavin at Euro-Italian for your parts (forum sponsor)
  13. If you don't mind driving an auto, definitely go the 540i in my opinion. Otherwise go the 535i route. Mike is right, maintenance can be intensive however there is a decent amount of spares for both engines around. The nikasil/alusil block issue isn't a problem in NZ as we don't have very high sulphur content in our fuel, unlike the US etc. Ensure the suspension appears to be in decent knick (unless you don't mind forking out to replace/repair). It is quite common for the thrust arm bushes to go and cause a shimmy at 80-100km.
  14. e36 17" Motorsport wheels My friend has spotted these on trademe and is interested. What is everyones opinion on the pricing of these wheels? Cheers, Ian.
  15. LOL, that was funny. I dunno wtf they were thinking

The box took about 5 weeks, including customs and getting it from the guys place to the port. This was the only downside, the time taken to get the goods. Price was very good. They are owned by Mainfreight I found out

Kiwi Shipping? I used them for my gearbox - excellent to deal with and very cheap
  18. Could give Gavin a try?
  19. You have to go to VTNZ or whatever for their 'special' wof. I don't think the certification thing is true? Unless it's changed in the last 6months?
  20. e34 540i or e34 535iS or e28 535i But im biased......
  21. Try checking the bundle of wires by boot hinge on LHS. Common problem. I had similar issues, opened up the wires in the boot and found several breaks/contacts.
  22. ^^^ That's a great idea...cheers for the inspiration lol
  23. ^^^ Not true. It is up to the person who does the test on the car. My friend was green stickered for this exact reason. Just had to quieten it up, go back to the testing place, and all was ok. Sticker removed and new WOF issued. However if a cop pulls you over at a later point in time for being too loud, he can green sticker again. The cert is to show the cop that your system is not over the legal limit and has been tested. I was also told a diagram showing what your current setup is is included with the cert so it cannot be modified later
  24. I will try another Master cylinder my mate has. Cheers Brent, however I don't want to pay for it to be towed. I don't think it would be too much of a major issue to fix (whatever it is?).....I hope
  25. Ok...... Rebleeding the clutch does not help my problem, i'm still out of luck here. However...I did find out my entire alarm is f**ked and all 3 immobilisers were active...yahoo! So bypassed them all and after several battery recharge attempts with a crappy charger and doing some magic with my corolla and some jumper leads...SHE STARTS AND RUNS!...boy did I miss that sound Rev's very quick and smooth (compared to auto lol) in neutral. Idles way better and generally runs better all around. Basically everything is almost ready...except for the clutch operation, gah! Please help me...I don't want to take the box off if at all possible....haha
