  1. Haven't personally seen the one in Chch, but I recently bought some headers off a bloke with a tidy 2.7 E30 who had been to look at it. He said it had been sitting for 7 years and the current owner had got it back on the road and is now selling it on. Paint is in poor condition, moreso than just the roof apparently.

  2. In my experience cheap batteries are a false economy. Just replaced a Century battery that was in my wife's Impreza, it had failed after just 2 years (bad cells). Whereas the genuine BMW battery in my E30 is still going strong 6 years after it was installed.

  3. It will likely be a Japanese import. The first Japanese owner would have purchased a standard 318i for economy reasons then added the Schnitzer bits to make it look like a more top-spec model. Have seen it plenty of times.

And yes, you can buy any Schnitzer bits you like from a catalogue and put them on your car, including the pinstripes.

  4. Fixed my blower motor which was only working intermittently and only on speed 4. Removed the resistor and cleaned the contacts. Also gave the motor itself a once over. Blower is working again on all speeds but the motor is still a little asthmatic, might need to replace it at some point.

Was also going to have a crack at fixing the problem of the wipers juddering across the screen when on intermittent but got distracted and painted the scuttle vents instead. :) Turned out nicely, will have a go at fixing the wipers tomorrow.

  5. Went to look at this car when it was for sale in Rangiora. Was in reasonable nick but had a number of oil leaks and various issues with the roof mechanism. Was keen on buying it but the owner was an a**hole and threw his toys when I started pointing out the issues and told me to "bugger off if I was going to nitpick". Had to laugh, I just drove away.

Looks like you've done all the hard work with the roof and tidied it up nicely. Welcome to BS.

  6. Jeez... and it has cracks in the dash!

You will have heard how in the diamond market there is actually almost limitless supply (diamonds are very common) but jewellers restrict how many are sold to the public so that demand and therefore prices stay high.

We need to do this with E30's. Keep demand high, create a roster where we are only allowed to sell one nice E30 every year. Every buyer must commit to joining this group when they buy a car. Watch as prices skyrocket. We all become very rich.

    You can thank me later.

  7. Yeah, X5's are certainly cheap, but a bit big for what we're after.

Know someone who just last weekend purchased a 2005 2.5i X3 motorsport in black for 11,500... 145k's on the clock. So they are out there.

There's a graveyard of them on Trademe that have been listed at 15k plus for months and months. Will be patient and something will pop up close to my budget.

  8. Never thought I'd write that as a topic title. <_< However, the wife has her heart set on one and after a bit of research it seems the E83's are actually quite reliable and perform well.

Hoping to spend around 10k. Km's not as important as overall condition and a good service history. Would prefer petrol over diesel.

    Anyone know of any?

  9. This used to be a Christchurch car and owned by another member on here. When I knew the car it had a 2.7 conversion in it. I seem to vaguely remember the owner swapped out the 2.7 when he sold it but I can't be sure of that. Would be worth further investigation if someone is keen on buying the car.

  10. These are such nice cars. It's a shame they're not commanding the higher prices that other classic BMW's are at the moment. Their time will come I suppose.

Best of luck with the sale Martyn. If you find someone who really wants one of these you'll have no trouble getting your asking price. I sold my low k's 535iSE manual on Style 5's for $6k so there are buyers out there it just might take a while.
