Replace your coolant, engine oil and filter, air filter, fuel filter and replace your spark plugs (and or the cap) and your motor will be more than happy with you Check the condition and level of your diff and gearbox oil/s

87' M20 Hmmmm, are you sure that your motor is pinging as the starter motor cranks the motor? It doesn't have a distributor does it? Doe's your m20 ping at all while driving normally?

Are you using a full hex socket? 6 sided socket? mulihex sockets are your enemy at this stage.

Why did you take it in if yours were too tight, do they make noise when they are too tight? what made you take it in to get them adjusted?

Yep, an allen key and spanner to undo the locking nut, then a feeler gauge to check/adjust clearance between the rocker and top of valve.

Does the Si board batteries have anything to do with licence plate light, brake lights etc...? If so, how long since they been changed graham?

It really does depend on how long you drove the car after you started hearing the bad knocking, does the car still have a knock after putting new filter and oil in? my mate ran his 1980's toyota with no oil and spun a big end with really bad top end knock aswell. (since put a new motor in) Peace.

Weld the end of the front door to the front of the back door and remove the hinges on the back doors on both sides and have the whole sides of the car..... doors Do it........

If the speedo sensor just isn't there anymore i'd suspect stripped bolt holes... I hope for your sake that, that hasn't happened...

When were your SI board batteries last changed? You can bridge two pins via the dignostics plug under the bonet to cancel out all the check lights untill next service, can't remember which ones, just google it. Peace.

Hey guys, I'm halfway through this project atm though thought I'd post a new topic for those that are interested. Story : Had a bad vaccum leak on the 5th inlet, which was so loud that people were actually commenting on it, "whats that noise!" etc. Its been around 3 weeks of driving around on 5 1/2 cylinders and the eratic idle is killing me. pulling the inlet manifold was a snatch, I didn't pull off the injector rail, nor the throttle body (didn't see the need) Getting hoses and wiring out of the way was the hard part, finaly ended up getting him off, gaskets were all slightly cracked and the 5th cylinder gasket was in two pieces : thinking about doing the injector 'o' rings, curious though are they a special 'o' ring as in are they shaped, or are they just normal rubber rings, if so, what size are they? Peace.
