  2. Don't have the front bumper.Do have some pics of the inside, but can't post them from my phone so I'll try to put them up tonight

Needs some work to get it's next warrant and I can't be bothered garage said some bushings needed replacing and the electrics (especially indicators) are going crazy, we think it is the alarm causing this problem and a few other bits & bobs, but those were the main ones $1200neg (car is in Wellington) PM me for more info & close up pics of various paint scratches etc
  4. Ray, Do you have any e36 front bumpers in stock? pref anything that isnt the bland one with the cheap plastic grill. Pref green but any colour will do. Cheers
  5. hey, I'm after a m3 front bumper for our E36 if anyone has one. Am in wellington, any color considered, prefer green, better condition is..better. Can pay/organize shipping. Unsure on what they are worth. Cheers
  6. Ok, We have a 318iS 4 door that used to have a cheap fibreglass front bumper on it. To cut a long story short, the car got bogged down in mud and the bumper got ruined pulling it out. We need to buy a new one, and im not a fan of the bumper that most secondhand ones are: I found a place online that sells this one for $200 primered. Ive seen a few driving around town (cause E36s are rare as, ya know) and occasionally I spot this bumper which looks to be factory fitment, but not the M3 bumper, which is $550 new. Can anyone identify it? I managed to find a white one on trademe to get an example photo: I dont really know my beemer stuff, but afaik that isnt the M3 bumper, but is a factory bumper. Im probably wrong and its probably just the M3 one. cheers!
  7. Hey, if this is in the wrong section can a mod/admin please move it? OK, we have a e36 318IS sedan, auto, M44 engine. Have recently purchased a new m44 from Ray (cheers!) and have got it all bolted in and everything. The only problem I'm having is with the stainless steel fuel lines coming to/from the fuel rail. It seems that no matter which way we try and mount them, they foul on the manifold or starter motor or any number of things. We thought we had it right, but found that the pressurized line is fouling on the intake manifold, and as a result we cannot completely screw the fitting to the fuel rail (delivery line uses a AN style fitting and screws into the rail to secure a rubber o-ring, the return side just uses fuel hose and screw clamps). Currently, the delivery line comes out of the rail, down through a gap in the lower intake manifold (between cyl 3/4) and then down behind the starter motor and meets the rubber fuel lines from the tank/pump behind the passenger strut tower. Does anyone have any detailed images of how to run the two fuel lines? Its getting very frustrating and all that we need to get the car back on the road. We can get the car started and everything, but because the lines are slightly 'off' and cannot completely screw the fitting in, we get a very minor fuel leak. less than desirable
  8. Ok We have a 96 318IS (m-sport) auto sedan. Its been overheating, we neglected it stupidly and now the headgasket has blown. Page european have advised we probably wont get change out of $3000 for the work to be done, and there is a good chance the engine is naffed anyway because thats how they go with these. I dont know, I know RX7s and MR2s but these BMWs are as foreign as the car to me. So we are looking for a good condition M44 engine, the last 7 digits of our VIN are AS75446. We are in wellington but can pay shipping. Cheers
  9. thanks, BnT have a pump for $97 so ill check which one we need (they come in 8mm bolt holes and 10mm bolt holes apparantly) and try get one tomorrow!
  10. ok we have a e36 318is msport. its a 96 model and has the plastic thermostat housing, if that helps. This is our daily driver so would like to try suss it out sooner than later. Originally I thought the thermostat was at fault, as sometimes the car would get up to temperature and keep climbing with no signs of stopping. We usually parked the car up as it got to the line before 'too hot' but we have not driven it with the overheat light on. We tryed to get a thermostat through ripco, but they dicked us around and now we are looking elsewhere. In the meantime I have taken the tstat out completely and we drove like this the other night with success. UNTILL we pulled up to a stop at our gate, at which point the temp started slowly climbing again. We had done motorway speeds, twisty backroad speeds, suburban 50k areas and stopped for fish n chips before getting home, so a variety of driving did not cause it to overheat - just when we came to a stop at the gate. I have done the following to test: - water flows through radiator fine - no bubbles in the coolant, not burning white smoke so i dont think its a headgasket or crack anywhere - belt on waterpump is nice and tight, no rips or cracks and is not slipping - pretty sure waterpump is working because it will draw in water through the overflow tank with no trouble the only thing i can think of, is the previous owner ditched the plastic shroud for the fan and radiator for some reason, and this is causing a lack of air-flow through the radiator at a stop, but I cant see how this would be differant with/without a thermostat. any help appreciated, is it worth replacing the waterpump and belt? other than this temp issue the car runs fine and is not down on power (anymore than a 318 already is, dohohohoho). cheers
  11. colour-x and scratch-x are also both quite good for touching up fades, swirls or light scratches.

    The de-badge poll

that's what I think tooit just looks less 'crowded' to me as well
  13. easy to clean? maybe easier than the multispoke things, but there was certainly a lot more washing & polishing than normal (even for me, who tends to be a bit crazy about such things) there appear to be about a million 318's in Wellington, so I guess they must be pretty popular
  14. I had no real perception of BMW at all before I bought one. All I really thought was that they were expensive to fix. I ended up buying one as it was cheap to buy, cheap to run, and looked nice - without sacraficing cabin comforts. I think a lot of people think BMW (and all euro drivers) are bastards who think they own the road. I drive a small-engined 3 series, which I'm well aware has people laughing at me for buying the cheap version of an expensive car. I think when it comes down to it, people who don't own a BMW think that people who do own a BMW are a little bit pretentious and poserish - but in a suit/corporate way (rather than the pretentious and poserish Supra drivers who are in more of a music video way ) I can't say as I've ever noticed any BMW marketing, ever. There again - I have never been in the market to buy a car brand new off a lot.
  15. At the moment I've got the lips off the bumperthink I may actually prefer it that way, but not sure Can hardly tell in winter anyway - it's dark every time I look at the car! I thought the chromes were super cute but now I have realised I'm going to have to keep them clean, because after doing a road trip and then driving up and down my muddy driveway for a few days... well yeah - they don't look very nice at all right now
  16. good luck with the house purchase! and remember, once you have that huge asset - you'll never have a problem borrowing money if you want to buy a nice car in future (but yes, it does seem you have to sell all the nice cars in order to buy the house in the first place... funny how that works)
  17. Correct (as I had a pretty good one on my last car)I'm not sure if they re-assign them to the pool of 3+3 plates available after a period of time or not though? I have a 3+3 on my current car (though it's actually a premium plate, as it was purchased before they released the 3+3 idea). It's all pretty crazy, especially the prices! $700+ for a plate these days :/
  18. Thanks! that is fantastic will have a go tonight and then do a run into the shops to test it If I blind anyone in Wellington on my test runs tonight, I apologise in advance!!
  19. *waves* hey there - yeah, always good to have a friendly face when joining a new forum silly lights I was so glad most of the drive back home was in daylight!!
  20. Well... probably 2nd time for the wipers on the left if you're going to count my horsetruck - but I'm pretty sure that doesn't count at all. Last week I aquired my first BMW- I wasn't actually looking for a bmw in particular, just something practical for daily driving (you know: cheap to run, 4 doors to load friends in, big boot to cart junk around, automatic transmission) and this car ended up fitting all the requirements and being kinda pretty to boot. It's a '96 318is msport sedan green with beige leather interior I'm enjoying it so far, but my boyfriend and I know nothing about Euro type cars (he has 2x RX7s and an MR2) - so no doubt we'll be posting on here asking lots of dumb questions for at least a little while
  21. After recently getting an E36 (after quite a string of Japanese cars) we went for a night drive from Wellington to Auckland and it would seem we possibly blinded half the country on the way up! First I had the low beams on the factory setting (for 2 people & no luggage), which is 1 (iirc). Also tried 2 & 0 but still got highbeamed a few times by other drivers. The car has aftermarket suspension & has been lowered so we were thinking of trying to adjust the low-beams down toward the road more to be more useful (and not attack everyone else's eyeballs). I have no idea how we'd go about this, if it's easy or if it's even possible. But if anyone can point me in the direction of a how-to guide or something similar then that'd at least give me something to read to decide if it's something we want to try (or if we just give up and see if a service centre can do it). I dislike night driving at the best of times, so this just annoyed me stacks! and I feel awful for anyone I might have annoyed on the drive up!
  22. the boy usually drives a '96 rx-7 and project cars are a series-4 rx-7 and an aw-11 mr-2 (I should be picking up my 'new to me' 318 sedan today to be our 'family car')
