  5. Hi there, To unblock the drains on a sunroof,( and other places around the house), I use a length of curtain wire, the white plastic covered type used for net curtains. It works just like the plumbers larger model, and you can even can stretch a bit of the bare wireout to make a corkscrew on the end. Put it in your battery drill if its really obstinate. Gerry
  6. Hi, just a quick update, I have shopped around , and I have got one from BNT for $186.00, which is still bloody dear I reckon. Cheers Gerry

  10. Heres a tip, whenever I get another car, I always grab a couple of E/window swiches from a scrapper, usually cheap enough, then I check them at home to make sure they work, and then put them in the glove box.
  11. Hi, thanks for that, will check it out later. Gerry
  12. Hi, I need to test the visc' fan on my E30, and would just like confirmation I'm doing it right. When the engine is cold a rolled up paper will stop the fan, and when the engine is at normal operating temp' it should shred the paper. Is this assumption correct. Thanks Gerry
  13. Hi again, thanks for the help Katalyst, not a problem to fix in daylight . Cheers Gerry
  14. [Hi Katalyst , thanks for that. I will have a go tomorrow, the garage hasn't got lights in it . Cheers Gerry
  15. Hi, I need some help, the T-handle om my auto shift came off the gear selector when I pulled up in the garage tonight, as I moved it forward into Park. I had noticed in town that it was turning about a 1/4 turn when selecting a gear. It's a 1986 e30 318i As I looked at the handle in my hand I saw a white nylon(plastic ) rod sticking out of the hollow selector shaft, and as I tried to get a hold of it it fell back down the shaft. I put the handle back on, but cant get it out of park. I cant find the pin or screw that hold the handle on, but will have a better look tomorrow. Is it just a case of putting a pin thru the hole to locate the selector lock lifter. Cheers for any help Gerry
  16. Hi, thanks for your replies, I guess a fluid change is all I can try at this stage. Cheers Gerry
  17. Hi, had this 318i 1987 for a few months, and on my early morning starts(5.00 am) it has always seemed alittle slugish pulling away,( hard to tell if it has changed from 2nd to 3rdgear or not) for the first 500 meters or so. At first I thought it was just a general miss in the engine, and replaced the rotor -cap-and the temp' sensor, but no real difference noticed. It runs great after 2 minutes down the road . As the colder mornigs have set in, the slugishness is more noticeable, and I am now thinking it maybe the Auto that could be the culprit , it maybe time to service it, so other than changing the ATF and filter, is there anything else to check while the pan is off. I want to do this myself, and have a good mechanical background, but have not owned an Auto before. The ATF is still nice and redish, and does not smell burnt. What should I have to pay for a service kit for it. Cheers Gerry
  18. Just another thought, YOU DID PUT THE OIL IN THE SUMP, lol, but you wouldn't be the first. I was able to prime a pump on a Fiat once by removing the oil filter housing and squirting oil down the hole in the block. Cheers Gerry
  19. You may need to prime the pump and or the oil filter, I'm not to familiar with this engine, but if you havn't filled the oil pump at assembly,it may not pick up any oil. If you can get the sump off and get some assembly lube or oil into the pump that may do it. Others may have a better knowledge of these engines than me. Cheers Gerry
  20. [Hi, if you decide to replace or repower your car, I could be interested in your dead M10 engine, whereabouts are you. Cheers Gerry
