  1. FCP just advertised something like 70% cheaper international shipping, havent looked, but looked interesting.

    Its not really apples to apples, as I have big yellow brakes, but really rate the Brembo NAO pads in them (for spirted street use at least)

  2. BMW NZ Discussion/Parts group.

    I paid 13.5k for mine 8 years ago, with double the ks, and it was cheap then. The 130i market worldwide is slowly climbing in value, places like canada can get access to the JDM stock as of late last year... its drying up... NZ's in a weird little bubble of cheap 130s, it will pop at some point.

  3. There really isnt a small economical 1 series that isnt going to get slaughtered at being small and economical compared to something like a Corolla/Mazda 3/Other Japanese/Korean generic small car etc..

    Most reliable 1 series will be 130i of the E87 shape, still not without issues, but they are also worth fixing... where as a 116 really isnt unfortunately. Could be a solid argument made for a 120d/123d as well, as the diesel 4 pots are better than the petrols, but still have issues, and it depends hugely on how you drive (not happy at city driving for instance). 116 is really the worst of the lot :D . F20 shape is more modern, but still have issues.

    As above, go throw the CGA at your dealer and tell him to fix it.

    Honestly, reading the Car Constructors Manual, which is what LVVTA uses, you might be pushing sh*t up hill trying to use aftermarket recaro rails in a stressed seat situation. You wouldnt need to prove the rails/seats meet the standards, you would need to prove the rails were factory fitment in a factory car as fitted by BMW.

    I know my friend who did a similar thing to his corolla had to prove that the recaro rails he used were OEM toyota parts, as fitted to an OEM toyota (in this case, a Levin). This was helped by the rails having OEM toyota part numbers on them. If he changes seats to more modern recaros which have the newer bolt pattern, he has to change the rails and will need to put the buckles on the tunnel then.

    Easiest solution is to mount he buckles to the tunnel with doubler plates and be done with it.

    LVVT Rules say if meet the above, doesnt need to be OEM, the rails/seats were designed to be stressed seat. Id rather put factory seats back in than chop up the tunnel.

  5. At my wits end trying to find certification data on late 2000 early 2010s Recaros (Sport DC/JCs), they are certified to a few standards, but I cant find anything more than a generic statement at the end of a catalogue... and a TUV cert which has them fitting into an E90 (not an E87, with different Recaro rails, as in my case). LVVC wont accept them for certification as stressed seats with the generic statement about all Recaro seats using Recaro rails comply (There is a webapp to match car/rails/seats, which aligns with what I have)

    Has anyone stumbled across anything? Have a contact? (Ive emailed Recaro without reply numerous times)... Im not far off calling Recaro Japans number and trying to remember my 4th form Japanese.

    The legislation I need to comply with -

    LTSA 32004 2.3(2) The approved vehicle standards for seats and seat anchorages are:
    (a) UN/ECE Regulation No. 17, Uniform provisions concerning the approval of vehicles with regard to the seats, their anchorages and any head restraints (E/ECE324-E/ECE/TRANS/505/Rev.1/Add.16);
    (b) Council Directive of 22 July 1974 on the approximation of the laws of the Member States relating to the interior fittings of motor vehicles (strength of seats and their anchorages) (74/408/EEC);
    (c) Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard No. 207, Seating Systems – Passenger Cars, Multipurpose Passenger Vehicles, Trucks, and Buses;
    (d) Technical Standard for Seats and Seat Anchorages (Japan);
    (e) Australian Design Rule 3/02, Seats and Seat Anchorages

    Wut?

    255's have never been stock on an e8x, even the 135... how did they communicate that conclusion to you?

    Typo 245s, It took a bit of discussion that to meet their dreamt up requirements would require a 125 width tyre... This is the issue it nearly failed on, and would have required mud gaurds to be installed to pass. Who trains these people?

    Wait, you actually have to fail a WoF when going for a cert? What if you pass?

    Yeah, not sure, keep going but have a laugh about it is the plan.

    In my case with the modified suspension its an alignment report (within -1.5 /+0.5 camber of stock), certification reports (conforming to the NZ regs on which reports are acceptable) for the seats and rails (stressed seats, so seat belts mounted to rails), brakes are easy mine are bolt on and arguably "stock" (certifier goes and takes it for repeat multiple high speed stops, can confirm it has f**ken good brakes)... and then it needs a WOF within 28 days, which is should fail, and then pass once certed. Technically I also needed an auto sparky report on disabling the airbags in a non-sh*t way, but since I just coded them out certifier is happy.

  8. In truth, they had to get the lead wof guy out to discuss my car, they were concerned about the larger tyres (they're 235 40 18s, narrower than "stock" 255s...) needing mud guards at the rear, as although well within the arch (ET38, not exactly "aggressive" fitment.. it fits!) the curvature of the rear bumper could mean that they flick stones at traffic behind me... I sound like I'm making this stuff up :D

    Whole thing is f**ken farcical...
