Nice. Agreed on the muffler painting.

Another 800km+ roadtrip.
Balmy in Turangi.
Need to do the rear end bushings. The rear end feels a bit vague when it loads up in a hard corner. Deliberating on solid/poly/OEM options.
Also got it put on a classic insurance policy. Cut my premium by 1/3rd with better cover. Stoked!

Good buy Kyu. Very similar to mine. Even down to the same colour
The factory manual NZ new 328i E36s with the ZF Transmissions are a great performance bargain. So impressed with mine for the money.
Good call on the cooling gear, gotta be sure there isn't a time-bomb there!

Nice work Brent. Look forward to seeing it.

The new CSL
in News
Grotesque thing. Looks like the fat old uncle of the CSL wearing a too-small yellow morph-suit. And sporting an underbite.

17" is the correct wheel size for e36s anyway

Will you sell me the centre caps? /hope
Just buy the wheels, swap them over, refurb yours then sell the refurbs. Profit.

I've somehow missed this entire thread but now I'e had a very enjoyable read from beginning to now.
Awesome work you've done. It's always nice when a project comes together like that and the end result meets or exceeds the expectations you had from the beginning.
Congratulations.
Oh, keep the gratuitous engine bay photos coming.
Have been following this on and off since the beginning and like Dave said it has really come together well. I love the simple and clean look. Well done! Definitely motivates me to do some work on mine.
Thanks guys. Very rewarding, and a big learning experience for me too.

Odometer is working again.
Garagistic replacement gears in place.
Took it down to my bach near Taupo. Nearly 1000kms of running. No issues.
Gratuitous engine bay photo.

my work vehicle the sticker has 1/2 fallen off and it's got 2.5 years left....
Yeah - they barely last 6 months for me. They should probably look into plasticized stickers for these new long-term warrants.

Belongs to a friend of a friend. Very nice indeed.

Lovely wheels! GLWS.

Saw a nice silvery e30 318is coupe with a mtech2 spoiler on the harbour bridge. Old bloke driving, younger lady in the passenger's seat. Looked utterly lovely. Anyone from here?

Good work. I've never managed to not make a gigantic mess draining coolant out of the block.
I had to use a massive crowbar to get the water pump out of the block on my 328i. So just be prepared for that.
P.S Try not to ingest too much coolant (even if you think it is yummy). I've heard it isn't very good for you.

Those factory wheels with high quality rubber on them look refreshingly fantastic.

They should bring the turbo badge back

M3 housing is already aluminium, the rest will be upgraded including a new thermostat.
End links were about US$25 each from FCP Euro, obviously shipping on top of that. You can get them in NZ for not much more, I added them to a pre-existing order.
This will be my first (my mate's lasted 240k kms) and yes the replacement has a metal impeller. I have no idea what's in there, it's not given me a problem, this is preventative maintenance.
I'm debating whether to remove the front bumper and radiator support to make the job real easy and allow me to really clean up in there or whether that's more of an effort than the job itself? Accessing the 3rd water pump bolt on the S50 is slightly difficult but on the other hand my radiator support may be spot-welded on.
Just did this on the 328i. Not a hard job with the radiator out. Especially with the M3's self-bleeding cooling system. If it has the original water pump its a time bomb. Mine failed in the 328i at 170k, and could have very nearly cost me an engine.

Sorry to see. Hope you're okay.

So cool and unique. Glad it is all salvageable. Good to see it will be rescued.

Went for a drive out to Muriwai (and around the place a bit) to go for a jog on the beach. Car didn't skip a beat!
Its the first time I've had the car in the windies proper, and I couldn't stop smiling. Plenty of power for me, and with the solid engine mounts, you really feel the engine.
So glad that I deleted the power steering. It is a great budget option to improve steering rather than replacing the rack with a faster one from a e36/46, and doesn't have the effect of modernising the car (which I am trying to avoid). The steering loads up beautifully in corners, and the feedback is great. Not so heavy at slow speeds that you can't get it to do what you want with a bit of manhandling.
It has just transformed the car and created a hugely engaging driving experience, which is really what this whole project was about.
Could do with a LSD though.... Anyone have any recommendations on what the best option for sourcing a LSD would be?
An e30 with illegitimate M-badges on 18" chromies and a fart cannon exhaust tried to race me on the way home. I did not engage.
Have been speaking to DKM Fabrication in Wairau Valley about getting a new exhaust put together.

I love this guy. What a character. Anal retentive to the 10th degree.
Scroll to 2.34 when it get's driven properly
I particularly like how the rev counter goes into the economy gauge. Such irony.

I have a mostly intact m20b25 wiring loom you can have if you think it would help.

I seriously considered entering an E36 320i because it would be a lot of fun. Sadly the power to weight ratio would be no where near competitive with b18c Integras and 4AGE Levins. I think the BMW race series needs to introduce a new class for E36s with the same stock type rules for 2k Cup cars. 328i's out there tearing it up!
God yes. I would be all over that.
Pelican parts package MIA?

I've had stuff with USPS disappear for two weeks at the same step in the process as you describe. They're just really hopeless. If it doesn't appear, you'll need to get Pelican Parts to follow up with USPS.
