  1. my experience of bike racks is they need the flat surface of the tounge as part of their stability. The only other way i can think is a receiver type bike rack ie the bike rack itself is welded to a square section which slides into the receiver in the car which means you will need to have a nice insert in the bumper

For the record I was driving from Hokitika to Wanaka a distance of 419km.  No places in between where I can get a tyre for the M3.  Worrying about bloody run flats ruined the trip.   Accomodation is hard to get as well if I have to camp up and wait for a tyre to arrive.   I could have ended up stuck in the middle of nowhere. Tow truck fees in remote areas are also high when long distances are involved.  BMW response is no worries .

so let me get this right...you drove 419 km and nothing happened but bmw dont care?Who for the record is "BMW"

  3. i did many many ks on the 120 d one was a full lap of the NI including highway 43 no problem at all esp the approx 1000k on approx 45 litres bit( welly napier gisborne whakatane tauraunga auckland otorahonga turamanui whangamomana hawera wanganui welly)

The ride was a bit harsh on that car (much better with pirellis than either bridgestones or continentals) but i never had any issues with grip or feel with the run flats

I’ve never owned run flats and the car came with decent Bridgestones. How do run flats work? How do you know when there is a puncture? Towie said it’s only so far you can go before the sidewalls start to disintegrate. So are they a “get me somewhere quick so I can buy another $300 runflat, that’s if that they have them in stock?” tire?

I knew the water pump probably had to be replaced at some stage, just Murphy’s law, bad luck, my procrastination, wife’s car.

Whats a summer holiday without a brakedown tale to tell the grandchildren one day anyway?

Not all is lost, repacked into the E36 and it carved up the Brynderwyns proving the  old girl still had it her.

they can go some distance at a slower speed 80 km hr i think.Thy have very stiff sidewalls so less flex = less heat build up when"soft".My 120d had a tyre pressure system based on comparing the wheel speeds(using abs system). The soft one goes faster. The only time i has a warning i didnt even know i had a leak. When I got to work (about 5 km) it was 20 psiMy tyre place wouldnt repair it.I got a new one,and was able to keep it topped up in the meantime

To be fair NZ's rego system is awful and doesn't have a good reason to exist. No consideration for how much you actually use the car and unfair if someone owns a second vehicle they might use occasionally.
It's only purpose is fee collection, which could have been part of fuel costs/road user charges instead. That would spare a bit of admin work, the threat of $200 fines and other associated hassles from millions of people's lives.

rego system.I recently sold the Pajero and following NZTA own process adised the buyer that he should fill out the change of ownership form and hand over the recepit to me when i gave him the car so i knew he had done so.This was about 9 am on a Saturday morning (email) When i went to get a new warrant about two hours later he was already listed as the "registered owner".Surely that should be triggered when i tel them i have sold it!

WTF is it with people who are incompetent enough to 'forget' for months to sort rego on their cars, or at least put it on hold?

To be fair NZTA don't help... You may be surprised just how many people don't know 'rego on hold' is a thing, and of those that have heard of it, most have no idea how to sort it. And then, most who do know about it, appear to think it will cost money!

Let's straighten that out. Rego on hold is ***free***. Provided there is no lapsed back-rego due.
It takes moments to sort online, or in a Post Shop.

Hmm... Not sure if this is a rant about people who don't try to sort these things themselves, or NZTA who appear to not want people to know about it...

they dont want people to know about it esp motorcyclists with multiple bikes

Diesel is always good, been pottering around in father's Maxima and uncles W211 3.0V6 for the past two weeks, and find that I truly miss the torque of diesel, and the smoothness of the DSG. worth the extra RUCs and servicing one pays to be honest.

i like being able to do just about any trip without having to stop to fill up
