Hello Can anyone give me some advice for my E34 89 530i My fuel gauge isn't working properly. It gets to a 1/4 tank and just drops and light comes on when there is still fuel in tank. Also just filled it up and it won't go all the way to fill sits on 3/4 any ideas what to check first before spending money. Also when it idles it won't just idle normally its up and down only by a 100 or so but its annoying. And has anyone had trouble with there heater having a mind of its own? Any advice welcome Cheers

Cheers for info guys got it sorted today so hopefully no more problems. Got a few more things to do to it, water pump etc but apart from that the car is great!. Polished up really well, very happy with it.

Hello Can anyone help me. I have 1989 E34 530i m30 When I turn my main head lights on they turn off and on by themselves, and when they are turn themselves off the passenger side light stays on but only in park mode. If I turn them off and on myself I can get them to work sometimes. I had engine running when this happened. Anyone had this happen to them before? Please help. Regards

Hello all Well im back in NZ and have picked up my my 89 530i, and am very happy with it, Im very impressed with how it drives and quiet it is for such an old car. Needs a dam good clean and polish which i will get stuck into when the weather allows. Im planning on getting the water pump done this week for peace of mind. Also I have noticed the odd clunk from front end somewhere when driving slowly and it has a little play in the steering. could this be the control arm and bushes doing this? or CVs?. Also a little shudder under breaking which feels like the rotors need to be replaced or skimmed. or can worn bushes in front end cause that? Im going to go to page european for the work that needs doing, unless anyone has any other places in wellington they can suggest? And I need to replace the centre caps for 15inch weaves. I have seen some on trademe for $80 is that a fair price or should I look for second hand?. I might have to spend a bit to get everything done, but got it cheap enough so not to worried yet. Any advice would be great. planning on getting some work done on it this week. Cheers

Cheers Brent. Will check them out when I arrive. I know the seats in it have all the adjustments. Bolster etc. so not just the normal ones. but not sure wether they are classed as sport seats. What are they called do you know?. And what wheels do you have?. Might be better to buy them if I have to buy tyres anyway. I would like the Schnitzer wheels but not sure I can afford them straight away.

Its a Uk import. Its a only the 3.0 6 cylinder. Not V8. With cloth interior driver seat is a bit worn so will look at maybe replacing it or getting a leather interior for it in future. If anyone has a good condition grey driver seat for sale might be keen. Yes once its all cleaned up will put some pics up.

Just wanted to Thank everyone who took there time to give me advice on the E34s. I felt a lot more confident buying one after all the advice. I now have a 89 530i Manual. Which my friend picked up for me today. He took it for a drive up to Paekakariki and back going over the hill and was very inpressed with how it went. It needs a dam good clean and a good polish but other than that everything on it works and it runs well. He did say I will need new rubber for it soon. Any ideas on what 15 inch tyres handle well on the e34s?. And he said when it was idling it was abit up and down. Needs a good tune I expect?. Only 3 weeks to go and I will be back in Wellington and can take it for a drive myself. Also does anyone in Wellington region know where I can buy Autoglym products from?. Cheers again

Hey all Cheers Crockett for putting me onto the 530i at turners. I now own it. Had it fully checked out and report came back with no major problems. Just needs a good clean up and cut and polish. It has service history from day one. So can't wait to get back to NZ to see it and drive it. Thanks for all the info from all of you.

Cheers for all the advice guys One more question does anyone have a rough idea of what a 1989 530i Manual with 207.000 kms cloth interior sunroof etc would be worth?. Theres not to many about so was thinking if I had to replace with another thinking $4000 to get a manual 525 or 535. do you think thats about right?

Yes looking for E34 525i or 535i. But will use it everyday so thinking the M20b25 might be a bit better on fuel. Just want enough power for some fun when I want it. but won't cost me loads on fuel.

Hey On the way home. Drive over Paekakariki Hill if you don't know it already its a very tight windy road but lots of fun. Could be little tight for 7 series but would be good test for it. And if its clear day nice view from top.

Hey all Still trying to decide what 5 series to buy. Auto-Manual? And what size engine to get. Not loaded so fuel economy is important. But so is power:) Any ideas how different it is between the 525i 535i 540i?. Cheers

Just getting ideas have 2 months before im back in NZ so looking at all options. I know ill need more cash for 3 series. Maybe go for e34 but worried about running costs eg fuel now that its doubled since I left nz

Was looking around $2500-$4000 maybe more if needed. Not so worried about high kms if I find one that has been well serviced and looked after. Does the 318 have enough power to be fun?

Hello I was looking at getting a E34 525i. but not sure now. so looking at the E36 318- 325. thinking they might be better choice for fuel and running costs? Any advice on all models of engine. And things to look out for. what goes wrong once they have high kms on them?. All advice welcome

Just want to know how they compare to m30? Fuel reliability Things that go wrong? Are they too under powered for 5 series. On NZ roads?
