she's not smiling, must be unsatisfied with the ride?

Oh, we gotta love this thread!!! Why did I use the term "Rice"? Answer, because that is the lingo that seems to be used on this forum. My apologies. However, am I wrong in suggesting: 1. Japanese cars give the most bang for buck? 2. there isn't a normally aspirated Japanese car that I won't see in the rear view mirror? Personally, I don't care if a care is faster than mine (many are) or is more expensive than mine (many more are). Additionally, I have nothing against Japanese turbos - I own one - an Isuzu Mu 2.8! All I was getting (or attempting to) across was that your car should reflect your needs. On the basis that not everyone has a "Soprano roll" to spend on a car, those who want to go fast should buy Japanese (and in most, if not all, cases a turbo) car to get the greatest return for their money. Those who want the European prestige, which we know costs a little more, will, in most cases, need to sacrifice the bang. Sure, if I had the money. No, correction, if I chose to, I'd buy / lease the latest M3 or a Porsche 911 (or whatever they are badged now) so that I had the best of both worlds. But, I am more sensible with my money. In summary, I don't care what YOU drive, just as long as YOU are happy driving what you have!

On a serious note, we (i.e Bimmersport contributors) should keep an eye out for said "Red BMW" as the bashing (leading to death) of that woman was tragic and it would be nice to know that the culprits are rotting (or preferably being rooted) in jail.

Juzzie - whats wrong with the bolt on turbo? Done right it will be reliable and give the power he wants. But true I wouldn't buy a turbo bimmer - unless it was one i'd done or something. Nothing, if that is what you want. I'm just an accountant / lawyer who is a purist - so you can imagine my point of view. Now Reckless made the statement which was "sort of out of my fina[n]cial reach" and all I am trying to do is to play "devil's advocate" so that Reckless doesn't save $1k now to lose $3k in two years time when it is time to upgrade. You will only get to what you want (that pristine E30 M3 in the garage) if you don't lose on what you have.I was once (i.e. when I was younger) of the mind that, yes I wanted to beat everybody at the lights (not easy in a 2002tii) and needed more power, MORE POWER! But, now (and yes, I'm happy to hold hands with everyone and sing kum bah yah) I realise the pleasure that you get out of the car you drive, the person in your passenger seat and the music you are listening to, irrespective of whether they guy in the $10k sardine can is at the next set of lights already. If that isn't the case, and beating the "Rice" at the lights is the key, then, given the "Rice bang for buck" you either need your own "Rice" or a late model BMW. Additionally, the more power you have, and the willingness to use it, the costlier it becomes with tickets from the law. Believe me! A lot of people on this forum must enjoy driving a BMW for the sake of driving it (i.e. all the 318 / 320 etc owners) and aren't looking at losing people at the lights. Why do I enjoy my M3? Because I can do Blenheim to Christchurch in 3 hours? Because I can leave people at the lights? Because it is 1/500 Evo Is? Because it is 1/17k E30 M3s? Because it looks good? Because it has a kick-a$$ stereo? Because I've got nothing else to spend my money on? Because it was a good investment? All have an input, but mostly because I enjoy driving it how it is. Enough? Whatever Reckless does to his car, he should enjoy it and not feel that he has wasted his money,
-
Then enjoy driving what you have and don't try and make it something that it isn't.
-
Then you've answered your own question. The immediate "savings" is great, all I'm saying is that you'll "pay" for it in the end. If you want power, why not sell the car and buy something more "bang for buck"?
-
2.8ltr it - or kiss your resale value good bye. Up to you! Especially if a factory M. If you've got the bolt on fantastic, do what you like, but no one (in their right mind) is going to buy a "BMW" with a rotary, or with a bolt on turbo ..... 2.8ltr it!

Get the best set of components for the front that you can afford. Don't run rear speakers (or if you do, $99 Sony's off the head unit). Get a nice 10" single sub in the boot. Run the sub and fronts off of a 4 channel (2 channels bridged to 1 for the sub). Unless you want boom, boom, that should be a perfect set-up for daily, non competition driving. As for brands, I'm a fan of MTX, but would also go Boston's etc. Remember, the best you can afford for the three fronts/sub/amp. J

personally, and without knowing more, I'm thinking this car is going to be a dud on the trailer. please be careful!
-
I wouldn't pay more than $14.5k as for that I could have my old sports with the 220-240bhp 2.8ltr in it with all the Mtech gear etc. Just needs an LSD and that is one wicked car. Standard sports should be 200 bhp and have a dog leg 5-spd box, a LSD, sports kit, recaros etc. Standard was 2 door. Quarter mile - no idea. 0-60mph probably around low 7s? Rarity value = if it is a TRUE sport, probably second only to an M3. If it is a kitted out 325i you'll possibly take a kicking over price (in my opinion). As I warn over and over, be very, very careful about a) what you buy and whether or not you can make it street legal in NZ. Otherwise you either have a dud at the lights, or a dud on the trailer. J
-
If you want to be completely safe, make sure it is registered and warranted in NZ. Otherwise, you may have an (unsellable) track car on your hands that is not street legal.
-
I don't think they will be coming into NZ anymore until they are 20 years old or more - but could be wrong. Grab a BMW magazine from the UK, see what they are going for in pounds and multiply by 3.5 to get a price in NZ$ incl. shipping and GST.
-
I believe "had" would be the operative word - unless Kevin has purchased another.
-
I've been told that an E30 wagon (factory standard) recently sold in CHCH for $14k, so that would be an indication of value / worth.I'm too thick skinned to be insulted!
-
Everyone I dealt with (bar one) in complying (physically and paperwork) my LHD to RHD conversion were C**TS!!!! Pardon my French, but I would never, ever do it again. LTSA and the rest of them are corrupt. Import LHD and your peril.
-
Nice! Would love to have a nose around it sometime. Never actually seen a proper (excluding the Sport I owned) Sport in NZ.J
-
I ran my car down the Strip in Christchurch and recorded a 320:01 given the amount of skank on show.
-
Are there truly 3 "Sports" (not Motorsports) in NZ - i.e. LSD, kit, dog leg box, 200bhp motor? I know of one, but it isn't a Sport anymore. To all: there is a big difference between a Sport (c.3,000 only worldwide) and a Motosport so make sure you know what you are buying. Put another way, the "average" seller is just telling you what s/he was told when purchasing the car - doesn't necessarily make it what s/he says it is! A Sport will give the E30 M3 a run for its money (arguably) the Motorsport will look good next to it, until the lights go green. J

I've done all but the coupe!LSD - no - but can obtain and fit for the purchaser (at purchaser's cost) Cloth - grey OBC - negative - analogue clock (honestly, the OBC space is only good for one thing - an oil pressure gauge) Audio - Blaupunkt CD player. Selling a car, not a stereo ;-) Ks - not sure since reconditioned, but c.154,000 in total (from memory) For a good price, I'll even help you with your law lectures (assuming you are a student and not a lecturer)!

1988 E30 Wagon. Wolf in sheep's clothing. Badged a 320i but reconditioned and bored 2.7ltr putting out approximately 200 - 220bhp. Have dyno tests. Automatic, two NZ owners and fastidiously looked after. All receipts kept. Alarm, CD player. Silver exterior, grey interior. Car located in Christchurch, but can relocate to Wellington at buyer' cost. For technical questions please call Graeme Clyde at German Auto Components on (03) 377 9619. For other questions, call Justin on (21) 717 365.

Sports were only 2 door (although there is a four door in CHCH). Motorsports are factory add-ons so could have been two or four door. Question was whether it is factory add on in Germany or dealer kitted in NZ.Sports have five speed dog leg boxes - that's how you tell. Oh, and the LSD, kit, etc, etc. Major difference is extra horses. Motorsports have same 170ish bhp and seek improvements in other areas. I posted a heap on these in the past - for those that are interested. J

My ex 325i sport (4 door / UK import) is for sale in CHCH, I believe. Now kitted out with a c. 220hp 2.8ltr engine. M-tec II kit etc, etc, etc. Not sure what the guy is asking, but if I had room for it, I'd personally buy it back. My suggestions is that it is worth c.$14k

But a sleeper should look like that - not pumped up to look good. That is why the 2.8 in an E30 is my favourite idea. Esp. if the car is badged a 320i (and even better if it is a wagon)! I just don't understand people f***ing with the looks of European cars like that. European cars do perform, and they look good off the production line - that is what you pay for!
