  1. There was one original right hand drive M3 manufactured, but BMW found it too expensive and therefore only gave you one option - LHD! From memory, I only thought that there were 500 Evo 3 (2.5l / 238hp) made - but I could have a cloudy memory. The hp that are quote 195/215 would seem to be US spec as Euro spec M3s didn't loose 5hp to the catalytic converter. If an M3 is not already registered and warranted in NZ, you will not be able to get it on the road until 2007 at the earliest - ie, once it is a 20 year old "classic". They come up for sale relatively commonly in England, which is only any good if you are living here. There are a number in the US, as evidenced on www.roadfly.net I think there are slightly more than 10 in New Zealand (if you take into account pure race cars that are not street legal). However, street legal M3s may be closer to the 10 mark. I can think of 5 in CHC (not counting the 325i made up like a M3, but including one EVO 3) 2 in WLG and 2 in AKL. Plus 1 for sale on TradeMe. If you can pick up a street legal, registered and warranted M3 in NZ for $30k, let me know your postal address. I'll send you a 10-digit calculator so you can add up the numerous bills you receive from your mechanic. I doubt I would part with mine for as little as $45k. As for purchasing an EVO 3 - you would be lucky to get one in NZ. I know the last one in Canada sold for CAD68,000 and the last sale in the UK was GBP18,000. Hope that helps .... and good luck.
  2. $65 a month for the M3 - just for fire and theft - not even to take it on the road! Yes, I can multiply $65 x 12 = lots for a stationary object!
  3. Prepared to be corrected - but forget digital zoom and go for optical zoom. Digital zoom can be achieved on computer? I own a Sony DSC U20 (brilliant - top piece of kit and SO small) and a Sony W1 (slightly larger, chunkier, but again, brillliant). Rate the Sony gear - but that has always been my preference. Go high megapixels / optical zoom, in my opinion.
  4. As little as possible. Not helpful, apologies. I'd stop at anything more than $2,000. But anything less than that - if it lasts four years, you are ahead of the game.
  5. Followed (so he would cop the ticket) an Audi wagon back from Blenheim to Christchurch last year and we hauled a$$. Not sure what sort of wagon it was exactly, but we did the trip in 3 hours, 5 minutes. BP Blenheim to BP Papanui Road. Was a lot of fun, although I don't think other drivers were impressed as they were double-whammied on the over-take. The Audi really moved, but then again, so did the M3.
  6. ACS was just aftermarket. Licensed out to a number of operators. I'd drive the car. If it goes like a cut cat, you're in. If not, get in the car you came in and go home. My two cents. J
  7. Go to a wreckers, get some new mirror "triangles" and flush mount your tweets. You then have the originals to replace if necessary. No need to go all fancy - we ain't no Paris Hilton!
  8. That is because Maclaren had nothing to do with Christchurch, Japan, or South Africa where I think you'll find the car was manufactured. Read into that as you please, and why I didn't purchase at the time - for $25,000. There are no receipts etc from "Maclaren". That is also why I think it is much more reasonably priced at $10,000 (but reading previous post) now ONO! J
  9. Gus - I don't think you could go too far wrong given what I know about the car (or how it was when I was considering it). However, if you are a pedant and are after a car with "birth papers" I would do my own research to establish (confirm if you will) that it is a true Snitzer.
  10. It was when I looked at it - up the coast a little with Dave Scott - but he was looking to sell many years back.I think a great buy at $10k (assuming it was well maintained over last few years). Boy did it go. Up there with my E30 328 and the M3 (ok, not quite). As I said, someone has to buy it!
  11. I believe that the car started its life in South Africa as it has the long range tank and large radiator. I also thought there were some 91 E30s - but could be wrong on all counts!
  12. Looked to buy this car in early 2000/01 and at the time Dave Scott wanted $25,000 for it so c.$10,000 now is a good price. However, I couldn't trace Maclaren auto to Christchurch (are you sure) so was never able to prove its Schnitzer authenticity, so didn't buy. Went (goes) like a cut cat and would be a lot of fun. Would love buy the car - not the licence plate (doesn't make it go any faster) - but no room in the garage. Good luck with your sale. J
  13. Ring Graeme Clyde at GAC in CHC - you never know what "specials" he has lying around.
  14. Guys and gals, need a ballpark figure on a loaded question. What is a 1987 E30 M3 Evo I (with Evo II specs), black, converted to RHD, all, and I mean ALL the bells and whistles, no rust, no accident damage, registered (ie, you CAN drive it on NZ roads), fully kept-up, receipts since NZ, .... WORTH? I note that the convertible E30 M3 on TradeMe at $45k has yet to sell. Shall we have a debate? Cheers, J
  15. best $120 you will spend. examine the car closely to see if it has been "drowned" at some point in its life.
  16. CiLK - not actively selling it, but it is for sale.
  17. Check this pupster out ... guess what is happening to my wagon, given time .....? www.willz.ca/ED74525.htm
  18. If you want to calculate what it is worth, take what you paid for it and drop 20% the first year, and 10% thereafter. Unless you have something truly rare, prices drop like crazy (pardon the pun). If you are happy with your car, I'd stick with it, and certainly wouldn't go retro for the sake of it.
  19. There is one (that I know of) in CHC, blue, woman driver. Have not seen any more.
  20. What is wrong with your IS? Why go retro for an E30? IMHO.
  21. If I knew what they were! Not spending any money on the M3 at the moment given the five-figure number of miles between me and it. I think it will get driven 2 months out of 12 so doesn't justify being a money-pit. Just going to put a dynatron in it and "sack" (to use board terminology) it out on some 16" BBS three piece. But someone should buy those seats.
  22. do you think they would fit an E30?
