  1. Hi there,

    I've got a "factory" or dealer-fitted tow bar on my e60 - it's got a 50mm ball, but I'm after the slighty smaller 1 7/8" type (approx 47.5mm)

Does anyone happen to have the removable goose-neck part in 1 78/" to fit this type of tow assembly?

I know that there are a few places that can machine the 50mm ball down to the smaller size, but before going down that path I thought I'd check if someone had a complete part in that smaller size so that I can keep my options open (most hire trailers appear to be 1 7/8", but I ideally want to keep the 50mm as an option to haul bigger trailers if needed). Photos attached of my existing set-up

Maybe an e53 or e70 X5 has the same type of bar?

    Cheers

    Paul

What car are you fitting it to?

I used this when I fitted the towbar to the E46.  It works well.  https://www.trademe.co.nz/motors/boats-marine/parts-accessories/trailer-parts/listing-3011392114.htm?rsqid=c96668a2e7f2402782e1a41d20d3aeb5-001

There is also one for Canbus systems. Don't know anything about it though. https://www.trademe.co.nz/a/motors/car-parts-accessories/other-accessories/listing/3009990178?bof=7u7c0lVl

I have a genuine Westfalia bar, and currently use the "TEB7AS" relay in the first link above on my e60 LCI sedan - quite easy to install, and no issues with the LED indicators etc. It doesn't however have the genuine BMW / Westfalia feature of disabling the PDC sensors when reversing, but a push of the PDC button inside the car silences that. I also don't think it gives you a dash warning to indicate if there's a bulb out on the trailer (I think the genuine ones do?), but there is a discrete audible tone from the module when indicating which will not sound if an indicator lamp is out.

  3. Beautiful Car - don't let it go for less than what you really want!

There are not many about in NZ that achieve the near-unicorn status of this one.

I wouldn't be surprised if the "right" buyer would pay circa $50k for this example.

Good luck with the sale, and please let us know how you get on.

    Cheers

This one has some nice looking bits including what looks like a carbon fibre airbox or lid... and that exhaust!

Might be worth looking at for around $9k but at $15k they're just taking the piss.

This looks familiar - I seem to recall one with a quad exhaust for sale a while back - had a fancy quaife / Birds UK diff and a few other mods?

  5. Yeah, this one certainly ticks a few boxes! I see that it's a UK import, but speedo and odometer is in Kms - is that normal? The vin decoder says its LHD, (but that often comes up incorrectly in my experience) - Unless its a euro to UK import, then converted to RHD? That might explain the Kms instead of Miles. But vin decoder also says S812 National Version England / Ireland.

I'd forgive TM every sin under the sun if they banned Rob_ from ever commenting on an auction again.

...and if they banned time-wasting users like taeb01. He has a habit of asking “.” as a question. Usually on $1 reserve Euro car auctions. Not sure why he does it - but it annoys TF out of me!! Eg:

  7. I don't think that those seats are the original "Sports Seats" that are noted on the build sheet. These look more like they have been lifted out of a late ('98) 318is NZ edition (M stripes, and look a lot fresher than the mileage of the car) - Most of these early 328i imports had the half-leather sport seats with cloth inserts.

    5K factory de-badge option - ?

  8. Some interesting machinery in the car park at the Ruapuna Skope Classic yesterday, including 4 x e46 M3s, and a brand new (Jan 2020 rego) Porsche Speedster, complete with fire extinguisher and racing number. As usual, the Spectator''s cars were just as interesting as the ones on the track!
