  1. Ran a basic battery test, came back at 85%, took it to an auto sparky who said he needed to do a load test on the battery to confirm its fault, but felt it was probably the issue. Its an 820cca battery from 2017 (H7) Anyway, will get it load tested and then see what that says, just dont want to take it to a dealership just yet. I wasn't terribly worried about replacing the glow plugs, i pulled the old ones ran them over a multi meter and about half of them were shot, bosch replacements off ebay were about $80 for a set so it wasn't a biggie
  2. Ok, I can, but im trying to troubleshoot it myself. Found the hidden menu and looked at the voltage pre starting (12.5v), under 9v when cranking and then 14v after its started.
  3. My 530d I bought it with hard starting issues, nothing terribly bad, but annoying. Replaced all 6 glow plugs, and the problem got a bit better, but not fixed 100%. The previous owner claims the battery is near new, and it looks to be, however, I tried starting it with jumper cables off another battery and the problem went away completely. Am I overthinking this or is the battery likely to be the issue?
  4. Looking for the a Pre LCI E60 Ipod retrofit kit Also, the E60 sedan interior panels, in either silver or carbon, want to replace the wood grain if possible Located in Auckland!
  5. Try Clickable Automotive (New Aussie BMW parts outlet) http://clickableautomotive.com.au/ Doesnt look as comprehensive as pelican parts (or ecs), but its more local + shipping may be lower (havent priced it out yet)
  6. Just got it back from Glenn and Bellars Seem to think it was the gearbox loom, so that was replaced, with a fluid and filter change and the adaptions cleared, seems to be running way better now, although the fuel efficiency meter isnt as responsive anymore...
  7. Im not certain it is mechantronics Back in April it was shifting weirdly, took it in to Glenn who diagnosed it as a wheel speed sensor and trans temp sensor, both went away after the wheel speed sensor was replaced (was also throwing up ABS error codes) All was fine until last weekend after a reasonably big hill in the coromandel and a full car, on the way down it was downshifting/upshifting weirdly (jerking while changing), soon after went into limp mode with the cog flashing. Turned it off and on, limp mode went away. Later on that weekend it stalled while going from reverse to drive however, not sure how related. Drove fine back to Auckland (manual shifting fine as well in particular), Glenn scanned it with 5 fault codes coming up suggesting the box had been overheated. Its currently with a Trans specialist to see what the diagnosis is.
  8. Now im reading suggestions that a fluid and filter change may fix it, I promise im not jumping to conclusions Glenn, just thinking aloud!
  9. Lesson well and truely learnt a. Don't take a WOF sheet and a Mechanical Warranty as indications of good condition b. Don't accept a Jansens Mechanical Warranty full stop Glenn and the Trans guy seem to think this could be electronic, but im not so sure. Ill keep it updated
  10. Its gotten to the point where i've fixed much of its problems, the suspension is good, ive replaced most of the bushings/linkages, new shocks make it ride way better. The Cooling system has been a slow leak, but it really needs to be sorted regardless, and the gearbox hasnt helped. I paid about $13k for it last year from a (now) dodgy car dealer, ive put 25k on it, and tbh, its been a good car considering the mileage. I doubt its worth 10k on a good day all fixed, but if I sold it as is, id lose a hell of alot more IMO
  11. I have what it seems to be a lemon of an e46 Its currently in with Glenn at the moment, and from the error codes its reading as the gearbox has overheated It still drives ok, but thats beside the point, it needs to be fixed/replaced. Ray has quoted me $1500 installed for a second hand GM box fitted which is incredibly reasonable compared with the price ranges for a recondition i've heard. Can anyone recommend a gearbox specialist in Auckland that might be able to shed any more light on the condition of my gearbox? or do you think I should just go with the second hand swap? However, at the same time, the cooling system needs to be overhauled as the radiator has a leak (I guess I could do that myself tbh from Euro Italian etc) I've already replaced front shocks, 2x coil packs, 2 tyres, drive belts (general maintenance stuff to be fair), it just seems to be more of a money pit. I really like the way it drove before everything went to crap, and considering the money i've spent so far, and the money ill have to spend to get it to a saleable condition, im tempted to keep it. I really doubt ill recoup much of what I paid in the state its in at the moment unless i flick it on to turners... I should note its an 2002 e46 2.2L 320i Auto with the GM box and 125,000kms on it.

    Quick Questions

Would anyone by chance know if e36 roof racks would fit on an e46?
  13. These dont seem to be overly common, but im keen to pick up a set of roof racks for my e46 sedan, apparently e36 also fit? In Auckland
  14. Tried Ray - wasnt answering, Brent helped me out though, legend!
  15. Car was running like a dog on the way home from work last night, determined that it was a coil pack by process of elimination and swapping the borked one with a good one Im coming up empty tho and its a long shot, to find a parts supplier for a new coil pack (or one off a wrecker) thats open this afternoon, any ideas?
  16. Front Shocks on my E46 Sedan (Non Sport Suspension) are shot, usual story, I can get wholesale KYB shocks and mounting parts, I have access to a spring compressor but i've never swapped shocks out before, complicated job? hard? Ideally id like to do it myself not to just save money, but for a bit of a challenge and satisfaction that I can fix my own vehicle Else, is there anyone in Auckland that likes beer and would be prepared to supervise for a saturday morning ?
  17. Is there anyway we can see what our plates will look like in the german plates font?
  18. Huge Bump Turns out this was largely caused by a faulty wheel speed sensor, caused the ABS/DSC to disengage, and was apparently feeding the wrong info to the gearbox which would explain the dodgy shifting and the limp mode Currently in with Glenn at the moment getting a tickle up, cheers glenn!
  19. Need a quick scan done as the ABS, DSC and Brake lights have come on Work 9-5 so evenings would be best, happy to compensate for the useage Else, whats a good reasonably priced scanner that will show DSC faults?
  20. Thanks for the offers guys. I havent had it scanned yet, but the problem has gone away. Still need want it checked though for peace of mind. Waiting on a mate to lend me his OBD2 scanner. Also noticed the AirCon doesnt work that well at all, the joys of owning a tempermental european car!
  21. Bugger, Ok then. Well, does anyone have an OBD2 Scanner I could come visit so we can pull the codes? I live out Howick way, but work in Takapuna, so wouldn't be able to just swing by Botany tomorrow, would need to drop it off for the day or so. Jerry Clayton is right next door to my work, but I fear the stealership will charge me $500 just for the scan....
  22. Made it back to Auckland sweet. Noticed it wasnt changing gears appropriately, maybe MAF sensor? When would be a good time this week to bring it in Glenn?
  23. normally id post this up in the general tech subforum, but im stuck in the coromandel and need to get back to work for monday (Auckland) and need some urgent advice! 02 E46 320i (M54 2.2L/5 Speed Auto with Steptronic?) Was driving into town and noticed suddenly that between 1 and 2 and 2 and 3 it would thud when changing Turned it off, went away. Came back again shortly after. No check engine/limp mode warnings. Went away half way through the drive home. Obviously I need to get it to BM Workshop or Botany Motorworx when I get back, but its whether I need to get it towed back or whether I should be sweet to drive it back..... Opinions appreciated!
  24. http://www.alpine-usa.com/product/view/ida-x305s I used an bmw to iso and iso to alpine loom, didnt make any cuts or connections There is of course a power antenna blue wire in the loom which is usually used to power an aerial that extends etc, but according to the handbook, it says it shouldnt be used to power an antenna amp
  25. Finally replaced the dreaded bmw business tape deck in my 02 e46 When I removed the headunit, it had an adapter taped to the antenna wiring it like it wasn't original However, I looked on the options sheet from factory and it lists 661 Radio BMW Business It looked like this btw Now that I have the new headunit in (Alpine ida x305s with steering wheel controls) the radio reception seems poor, like the diversity antenna amp wasnt functioning. I know it was a problem with the pre 01 e46's where the antenna had to be wired in series from the headunit and the common solution is to change to the newer antenna amp, however, i have the newer antenna amp from factory. I cant quite figure out how i can get better FM reception... ? In saying that, new headunit is a massive quality improvement on the factory unit...
