  1. or buy this: http://www.trademe.co.nz/Trade-Me-Motors/C...n-240026075.htm
  2. they are very different cars the 525i would be a higher spec car as it would have been that tier above the 406/GTB. the 406's are very well kitted out factory if you looked at a 3.0 v6, i would recommend against getting an auto if you could as they are known to be problem area's when they get to about the 180,000km mark. Talk to Kieth about spring kits for them and they look really good... I'd say go have a look and a drive of a couple if you could... Make your own mind up...
  3. You need something cheap and reliable... Hence why i bought a slow diesel as a daily runner, it's damm cheap to run 930km on $66 fuel... it cost me $3300. I"m not going to modify it as it's slow and diesel. The stereo is good enough, the exterior is in good enough condition where i don't need to do anything to it. Thus leaving money for racecar and the trip the gf wants to take. Cheap, reliable, comfortable... If you buy something you really are passionate about you will want to do it up... Find something you find ok and keep you current car as the weekend play toy.
  4. Right so out of a hunch i measured the rear dia. of the torsion bars in the 205 and they are 18.5mm... i didn't check the anti-roll bar tho... I"m going to harzad at a guess and say its' not 1.9 gti spec as the 1.9gti runs a 19mm torsion bar. The 18.5mm bar gives me an effective spring rate of: 77.796 lbs The 19mm bar would give me an effective rate of: 95 lbs So i can see if i can locate a set of 1.9 19mm bars and i'll say anti-roll bar in the meantime to test with that... Should help with the rear sag problems i was having...

Selespeed = timebomb as per Alfa Dealer... the 147 is very small inside... when i was sitting comfortably. i was behind the b piller... The gf found them too cramped
  8. when i was younger i had some shrunkin heads...
  9. 1st year in government = dealing with things put in motion by last government... look at the police station review thing...
  10. famila = for parts... the gtx and gtr and gtae = pocket rockets
  11. not surprising really except for the lantis...
  12. basically like with all cars it comes down to preventative maintenance... I haven't had many problems with mine... maybe i'm just lucky... i've now had 4 pugs... 2x 205's, 406,306, 307(gf)... basically if you take it to someone who knows the cars it's fine... But when i was looking for a 206 some of the repair work on them was sh*t... wrong ill fitting oil filters, lack of maintenance, replacing with cheap crap parts... etc... I mean when i got my 306 from someone who "looked after" his car... it had a 4 year old paper air filter with grass growing in it... Get an NZ new one and you will typically have less problems with electrics and rust/corrosion related problems due to the nz climate compared with the uk and japan. Kiwi's are typically from what i've seen crap at maintenance - my aunt had never changed her oil or had a service for 6 years!
  13. being cut off while towing the racecar home TWICE! Hmmm 2.5ton explorer + trailer + racecar = not stopping quickly... Also people thinking that i'm going to be going slow as i'm towing something big. speeding up to pass me in the passing lane, then slowing down to slower than i was going before... grrr...
  14. Isn't it said that sometimes swapping parts for beer actually costs more than buying the part from a wreaker sometimes now... tigers are like $28 now for a doz....

    Find me a car

The only 5 door gti's where the nz new 206 s/w's and they are rare... but awesome they are all the facelift models... If you want 4 doors, look at the 306 xsi for the same price you'll get a better car... Although in saying that the little 1.6 in the 206 is plenty powerful. Most of the S/W's in NZ are the imported 1.6ltrs http://www.trademe.co.nz/Trade-Me-Motors/C...n-234868896.htm

    Find me a car

You could look at a late model 2000+ HDI or GTI-6 (s16 for jap imports) they would be about that price... being the last of the range they are typically very well sorted re problems... The 98 onwards xsi's used the 94 - 97 S16 engine in them, so they do have some pull to them... http://www.trademe.co.nz/Trade-Me-Motors/C...n-242367099.htm http://www.trademe.co.nz/Trade-Me-Motors/C...n-241949867.htm Opps the HDI's are still around 10k

    Find me a car

I had one of these before i wreaked it for parts for the racecar! Note: i kept up with my friends lotus elise in one of these... I could tell you a like of things to look for also that might help knock the price down... =;-) I'm sure that 2 things will definantly be wrong with it...

    Find me a car

Cambelt = 80,000km or 4 years Knocking coming from lower control arms. Check to make sure the airbag light isn't playing up on it -it'll be the airbag lead under the seat, they have a tendency over time to un-clip Exhaust for rust, just ahead of the rear muffler Trailing arm bearings - you will hear a creaking sound from the rear axle The seat adjuster breaks off, it's on the handbrake side - in image you can see the passengers seat has one drivers doesn't. The 138hp has great low end power and is fantastic in the city. The 307 2.0 uses the same 2.0 engine basically as the gti. The S16 will be a jap import gti... Thats all for now that i can remember... You also had a facelift in i think it was 2004 where they changed to the canbus system, 16 inch multispoke wheels, a really easy way to tell is by the radio controller behind the steering wheel, the pre-face lifts are a round controller, the post facelift are oval. see this one? http://www.trademe.co.nz/Trade-Me-Motors/C...n-241899971.htm

    Find me a car

there are a few things to look out for on a 206... nothing major major but just things to look for... Do you want a list? Don't get me wrong - fantastic cars, but like all cars they have their individual faults.
  20. lots of things to think about: Main ones: Brakes need cold air ducting, due to the minimal clearance they are transfering heat into the wheel and upping the tyre pressure a lot. (we couldn't touch the mag wheel for 10 min after coming off the track) Rear suspension way way to soft.. hence split bump stop. Gear lever - can't find 3rd... I think with the tyre pressure problem fixed and getting a better foot print on the road i could get a good .5 a second and with the gear lever a good 1-2 seconds from that... so the car is more than capable... it's just got teething problems...
  21. RIght Folks Results are in: I Finished (drum roll) 5th in class and 15th overall... Total number of cars = 60 I was basically 3 seconds back on the next in my class who was 9th overall... (1:22.97) Not too shabby for first time out... People head of me in my class: Honda Integra 1st in class 2nd overall (1:21.41) Nissan Pulsar VZ-R 2nd in class 5th overall (1:22.33) Nissan Pulsar 3nd in class 6th overall (1:22.39) Honda Integra Type R 4nd in class 9th overall (1:22.97) I was a second slower than 14th place... So lots more work to be done to get the times down....
  22. I've had to do that with the 205... stopped working on it for 3 weeks in feb after i missed the raceday i was aiming for after finding 2.5 grand of work that needed to be done. When i was in my 18- 23 age bracket all i did was party... 6 nights a week... no money saved and nothing to show for it, not even a nice car, I'm now 28 and just starting to get some savings after paying off debts and such... You say you "have nothing to show for all the hours I have worked, nothing saved, nothing gained from my year studying. " But you have, you have gained a vast knowledge of engineering, mechanics, and everything else you have learnt along the way... No doubt if you where to do this again you could do it in 1/3'd the time and far less $$$ from the problems you know you have faced. You and Boost will sit there looking at the car in 4 months time running in the sun at a bimmersport meet with everyone drooling over it... You can decide if you want to be looking at it kicking yourself for selling it, or getting a big head thinking "Ya Bitches that shits mine... no you can't drive it"
  23. 406 hdi diesel... just got 930km out of $66 of city driving... in my older less effeicent model..
