  1. I agree with m325i. Why go around trying to protect dumb people from doing dumb things- like paying for info on reseting service lights, let em pay! Good on the guy for making a bit of business. Stupid people who pay, there's plenty of stupid people about. When I saw this on trademe- I too thought what a bastard. but its hardly worth worryng about him
  2. Palazzo that definitely sounds like the one. Cheers - just wanted to know what the hell it was as it sounded like no E34 I'd ever heard before. Lexus V8 motor: nice (well under a lexus bonnet anyway). You're right about the NASCAR bit- crusing next to in in build up traffic, it sounded like a freeking race car about to lauch itself without being a typical Holden V8 like of burble and then the sream as it increased speed. It sounded pretty cool. Wonder what sort of performance it has. The thing is so mint looking, I'd buy it just for the exterior detailing alone. Thanks
  3. Saw a white (usually an unfortunate colour but looked alright) E34 5 series on Motorway- Thursday afternoon. Missed the number plate (stupid). Fairly deep mags, clear indicators, side skirts and front/rear pinnies. Front apron looked custom (not like M5). Also had decent sized cannon big bore. Anyone know anything about it? Looked pretty cool- except for the colour Ta

    sheesh

The magical light machine thingy that they wheel out in front of your car at the testing station to test your lights- I was failed for having my headlights set too high (wanted more light at greater distance)...anyway: doesn't that machine measure light intensity?

Speaking from experience Andrew? So I should stick with an E34 535i then

    535is anyone

Hey Kiwi535, Slightly off topic but... have you had any experience with an M50 E34? M50 525= multi valve (VANOS option 1992 onwards I believe) and 192 hp while 535= 208-210 hp. They're almost identical weight. I'd say an M50 525 would give a standard 535 a run for it's money- especially VANOS model with improved low/mid torque. Was looking at this 525 M50 (manual) that's been on trademe for a while versus the 535is you pointed out (also been on for a while) and thinking... well: which car is more interesting (apart from bodykit of the 535is) Oh and... yes please to a 535is: I'll have one thanks- if I could afford it right now that is Damn I want to get back into a manual car (beamer)!

Email Brent Hartge 535i: has a bit of E34 stuff
  8. 225/55(single/pair) or 235/50(pair) or 245/45(pair) 2nd hand Performance tyres with 5mm or so of tread. Looking for Yokohamas or Falkens. Ultimately after Falken Ziex 512's. Auckland area. Cheers.
  9. Cool as Cam Cheers. Re. headlight lense scatter (318is) good point- (would obviously mean changing your lenses- rather changing the whole lens unit: bit drastic- perhaps a tweak for later on though. And YES i should clean the lenses inside Kiwi535- considering the car came from the country and was pretty dirty when I got it- cher
  10. I once used 100 watt halogens for high beam on me e28: failed warrant at the testing station- said they were too bright- buggers. Ever since someone with a laser pointer shined me one night, I've always wanted to find em and shine em off the road with some decent power hehehe.
  11. Where do you get em from Cam?
  12. I'm wanting to increase the brightness of my headlights. Anyone had any positive experience with aftermarket bulbs. Bought some of those 'Arctic Ice blues' or some such name- Narva brand I think: nice blue look but minimal increase in brightness (waste of time really). Heaps of bulbs out there for sale: super bright, xenon filled, super white, plasma (that's a joke) bla bla..so much BS out there. LTSA have now outlawed (aftermarket) HID conversion kits so what else can one do. Anyone running 100W bulbs on main (low) beam? Cheers... sorry yes: another person who signs 'cheers'
  13. Good job man, looks pretty professional. What sort of clearance to you get between gas pedal and speaker- good while drivn? I'm wanting to do an audie install on my car and was wondering on 6.5 components in front.- why did't you go with the 6.5's? Actually with speakers positioned so low in one's car I reckon most (not all) don't really notice the difference between 5.25 and 6.5 for mid range freqs- half decent 5.25's can perform just as well as 6.5's. Still wish BMW positioned front mids on e34s a little higher. Colour: All of nothing is a good general rule:go for all blue or not at all- but then an all blue interior= just another pimped jap import- that's why BMW= cool= different to the rest. What else have you got- amp, sub?
  14. Found out from Brent (Brent HARTGE535i) about some stuff from Repco: VHT Vinyl and Carpet dye. He reckons it works pretty well. I haven't tried it myself-off to Repco soon to get some. Check out Brent's homepage http://www.cardomain.com/memberpage/584448/10 of his interior conversion from blue to black (can see seats sprayed black- mibble of webpage) also check http://www.firstfives.org/faq/interior_dye...r_Dying_FAQ.htm. This car is still a project car so no idea of how well this stuff wears/lasts- but looks good. Did you get all this Petone?
  15. I was looking at 3 535's in Trade and Exchange here in Auckland end of last year: 2 @ $6200-7800, (170-190K km's) 1 @ $8500 (around 150 km). The car I settled on (see previous stats): the guy had it avertised for a number of weeks and reckoned nobody came to look at it- more fool them- got a great car for very reasonable $. Saw one for less than $5K but had with over 300K k's. There was a manual one here : for some crazy price like $4000 - obviously had high k's but sold the Ist day- damn it! Yes probably $5-6K is a little on the light side in general for 535's-
  16. Cheers I read your note to Brent (Dec 04)on the recolouration of his e28 535 from blue to black- I will try shoe polish on the cracks if I can find the right colour. I used "Mother's" leather cleaner and yet to use a conditioner (both from Repco)- they give a reasonable result- I've heard of liquidleather.com before- Cheers
  17. Your right more of a paint- used a leather cleaner: colour comes off on the cloth so you have to be careful to apply cleaner to and work on a small area at a time otherwise you get patches of discolouration where the cleaner seems to disolve the 'paint'.
  18. No cheaper isn't necessarily a bad thing. I recently purchased a 1990 535i auto UK import, 200,000km, no rust- not that rust is really much of a problem with these cars. I've had it a couple of months- it has a good service history. Cosmetically it is a little average- coming right though- spit n polish and leather cleaned. Paid just under $6000 for it. No problems at all. As has been said - the key is service history- I didn't know much about the 535 before I bought it (had an e28 525e previously). Before you look at the car have someone lined up who knows bmws- rather that you local jap mechanic- take it for a test drive, if it all seems fine get it checked by the guy you have on the ready. Check out http://www.bmwe34.net. There is nothing wrong with an import perse- it 's more important how well the car has been looked after. I have been told that if you go for an import- uk imports have the German transmission while Jap imports can have a japanese transmission fitted- German on is surposedly more reliable. Someone correct me on this if I am wrong. Transmission problem are big $$$. You can try the fault codes using the dashboard lights- to check for specific faults- as reassurance. There are 3 535s currently on tradeMe that are fairly well priced. Around $5K-6K for a reasonable one, $8-9K for low km's in good nic-extra $ for manual if you are lucky enough t find one! Prices are pretty low even for e34 535's. Anything $10K+ for early 90's 535 has to be special- as kiwi535's is. I read a few buyers guides on the net before I started looking- sorry can't remember what address was.

Paint to hide your plate from cameras Check this out : pretty insane if it does work. Never tried it myself
  20. Anybody had any experience dying leather seats: mine are patchy- the colour (creme) has come off in some areas- cleaned it up but still looks bad. What dye should one use, where do you get it. How's it done properly. Does dying work.. or should I stay alive? Any help appreciated

    535 on trademe

535 This car is nothing to do with me but looks alright. Recently purchased an E34 myself: great cars: still looking for a manual. Sure it's an auto as is mine but still pretty darn good performance for an auto. Price seems about right. 210 hp ~8.5 sec auto- plenty of power to spin rubber when ya want and quite forgiving- no hideous rear slide- just controllable!
  22. From experience plastic welding can give good results.

Surely the price is a typo!
  24. I think you're albolutely right Napier_E36. I wasn't sure before but now the more I think about it the more I realise there is something better- Heck: an '88 manual E34 535 with 120K mls for $7500 has to be a better buy- even if I do prefer the E28. Thanks for putting me right
