whether they pass or fail a wof, (these ones will probably fail the next wof no doubt), its never safe to run a vehicle with 'dodgy' shocks. what would be a reasonable/approximate price for second hand shocks, and standard oe new ones? i dont think she could justify going the extra mile in buying aftermarket ones.

hey all, a friend of mine has a 89' E30 coupe, 318. the front shocks after her service, was told that they are completely f*cked. so a replacement is in order ASAP. just wondering, are there different types of front shocks for the e30's? she got a few rough quotes from a few diff places, but pricing seems to have a huge difference in quotes. so i thought i'd do some research and see what i can come up with. and whats the best way to go about this? just replace with some 2nd hands? or is it likely that they might crap out sooner or later too, so just go with new? or any other options etC?
-
yeah was aiming them out to e30 owners mainly. spacers would make them look better on an E30 due to their offset as well..

thanks for the info. wasn't sure if they were to go straight on to bimmer or not.

so what else is prone to need fixing/replacing/go wrong/break in these things? and where are the common rust spots?

what will you be looking to sell the car (with the suspension and wheels)?? send me some info pleasE? your car has certainly made me want one, not sure if i will definitely move to a BMW e30 touring, but its definitely raised my interest and eyebrows when I saw yours on the side of the road!

what does everyone think, or does anyone have anything to say about hte certain red one available on tradmee atm?

hey all, hmmmm, have had a recent fascination spurr of a new love for the E30 Touring's! Saw a very very nice one parked up on the side of the road near mission bay, and its soo mint and well done, no doubt, the owner maybe a member on here? anyways, it got me thinking, and I've scoped the market on trademe. just wondering, if anyone and could please shed some light about these vehicles, there only seems to be one mint red 325 touring on trademe, which seems to have an attractive price at the moment. other than that, they seem pretty rare in a very tidy respectable (up to my standards type of condition). ups/downs of owning an e30 touring, or e30 in general? common problems, what to look for when looking to buy etc? some good in-depth information would be good for a noobie like me! Thanks

both located in west auckland, shes absolutely clueless when it comes to cars, its just not her thing, but i see her complain and stress about it along with all her other stresses from day to day, so i thought i'd give it ago seeing as I found this very good resource of information and helpful people who know their sh*t about bimmers... yeah i figured i could sort the intake pipe problem out pretty easy, just gotta get the right part and it looks to me like to clamps and removal? if not much more. other problems have me a little less confident. would be good if i can get someone whos in the know to check it out. Glenn - sorry im still a noob on the forums, and have since given up on the idea of purchasing a bimmer for my personal use (since i first joined the forums), so excuse the n00b question, do you have a workshop? I could definitely do with the advice or atleast someone to confirm what hte problems are and how to go about it. just gotta think about financial situation too though. times a bit of a worry, but im sure i could organise to pinch her bimmer for a day when im not working and she doesn't need it (shouldnt be too hard to organise that part). HELLBM - will send you a text now.

Unique Tints for the win (but then again im biased) .. .. .. but we do have quite a bit of experience with bimmers I must add! hahaha (just check out all the euros on trademe who are tinted by Unique Tints) pricing aint bad either compared to some of the pro pricing I see just in this thread alone. thing about buying your own film from places like repco etc, its just cheap sh*t. you pay around $40 a roll, and you need around 2-3 rolls a car (you gotta take in to consideration, if you're complete noob, you will need extra as you will f*ck it up!). and I've gotta say, I havn't really seen anyone do a descent DIY job of tinting the rear screen without it looking crap (unless they know what they're doing). todays world, its better to just get it done professionally, but thats if you dont get super overcharged for the job.

hey all, got a friend of mine whos starting to get some small problems with her bimmer 318ti compact. its the e36 shape like 95 ish maybe? seems the drivers side electric window doesn't work, hasn't worked for ages, but she hasn't had the money to get it fixed, and seems every now and then more things seem to pop up, so I've decided to do some research and try pull a few strings to help get some of this stuff out of the way. Im no geek on bimmers either, so I don't know a hell of a lot about htem or trying to resolve problems. seems the intake pipe has split/cracks in them causing the car not to run too well, and gas economy down the drain, but she showed me and so I've diagnosed this to the fact that the pipe needs replacing. if anyone knows where i can get one on the cheap (feel free to flick me a pm). so yeah, the drivers window doesn't work, i know its a common problem with bimmers whatever the model, so what would be involved in fixing this and what kind of pricing we looking at parts + labour? also, the drivers door stopped opening from the outside a few months ago. the door opens when opened from the inside handle but not the outside? what would be the problem with this and would it be hard to fix? any new parts needed or need replacing or has something just unattached itself or something? (is it a common problem?) thats all i can remember for the moment. please give me any advice possible.

hey all, just adding some more information in to my reasearch.. what kind of suspension options are there for the E38 7 series and E39 5 Series? brands/different options. am looking to find out what can possibly be done to get them lower than most of the 'lowering spring' kit drops that only do approx 40mm... possibly adjustable coilover etc? are there any sponsors on the forums who can deal/source some and what kind of pricing are we looking at for what kind of kit? thanks
