  1. Hey everyone,

Over the weekend I noticed the smallest of leaks which appeared to be radiator coolant on a hose just behind the bumper. The leak took about an hour before it developed into any sort of drop but as the car has done 123000km I think its time to do a full cooling system overhaul.

I am just wondering how much am I looking at to get this done (mainly for budgeting purposes) as I want to do it all at once and get it done right. I would prefer OEM parts for this job. So I will be looking at getting the radiator replaced, expansion tank and I guess any hoses coming to and from the cooling system? I won’t be doing the work myself so just want a rough ballpark figure so I can shop around between mechanics to see where I can get the best deal.

    Thanks for your input.

  2. Hi, You won't have a trigger wire unless you have a relay like those sold by Umnitza Visit My Website. You can probably make yourself a relay or just hook them into the parklights. Originally before I got myself a relay, I just pushed them up into the back of the connectors of the parklights (that foamy stuff) and they worked fine.

Im sure others can correct me if I'm wrong.

  3. thanks for the reply. If I bought a oem set would I have to do some additional wiring with relays etc? from what I've read online its not a direct swap? have to muck around with lcm to? i guess if its too complicated I'll just leave them as they are for now and just make sure i wait for the right car next time round.

  4. Hi,

Thought I'd ask here as I know some people work in the networking industry.

Basically I've bought a Draytek Vigor 120 as I've read quite a lot of great reviews and the improved speeds with this modem so I decided to take the plunge and buy one myself.

At the moment I haven't bought a wireless router yet (planning on getting one and running Tomato Firmware on it) so at the moment I've just plugged in the default Huawei (Vodafone) router into it.

At the moment it connects to the net fine. speeds about the same or just above using the Huawei as the modem.

I was seeing if I can set it up in bridge mode with the Huawei Handling everything or can this only be done with a dedicated wireless router?

Below are the current settings with it working on the net.

From what I've read online I need to:

    Set PPPoe/PPPoa client to disable.

    Protocol to PPPoe

    and tick PPPoe Pass-through

Not sure what to do after that? Im sure some others probably have used the draytek as their modem but Im a bit stumped.

    Cheers

  5. Hi everyone, Recently I just purchased some new red trim clips that hold the silver/carbon/wood whatever trim your car has got to the dashboard. The old ones were broken so can out of the holes easily but i've been trying to get the new ones in but they just won't go in. I can get 1 end in easily but then the other end won't push in? Is there any trick to it or do I just need to apply some more force?

    Cheers

  6. Okay I finally got my car back from the mechanics, I told them I wanted the PCV replaced along with any other hoses split behind the intake manifold so I assumed they would have replaced it. I did a test that another mechanic and other tips I found online which was to remove the oil filler cap when the engine is running and see how it runs still.

I just attempted this now and as soon as I removed it, it sounded as if the engine stopped for 1 sec then started again and it began to idle real rough. Is this normal?

    btw its an N42B20 engine

Also before I took it in it had a whistling sound and still has it after I got it back.

    Cheers

    Hi guys,

Lately I've been suffering what I believe as a problem with my PCV breather hose/breather valve? don't know if they're the same but I've read online and my symptoms appear to be the same. Most times it drives fine all day then sometimes when I start it the idle is all over the place, drive for a bit and its fine. Couple hours later its still running fine and when I stop at a traffic light it starts to idle rough again. From my research on the internet I believe it this problem but I want to check it to see if the hoses are broken/split before I take it in unless this is a proper mechanics job?

Also cars coming up to 123000km and was planning on getting my mechanic to do some preventative maintenance is there anything that I should be really focussed on checking/replacing at this stage? Main issue at the moment is the one above though.

    Cheers

  8. Update:

Just a few semi recent photo's not much has changed. Just put some black kidney grills on and got the windows tinted at car folie. haven't taken pictures of those yet though.

future mods are probably diy fog lights, maybe change the wheels to something else + lower it a tad, maybe a dynavin (android) unit and looking at a e46 m3 rep bumper once i get the foglights done. but it'll all depend on funds as I'm a bit tight atm due to lack of a steady job.

  9. Haha umm on average its 12-13L/100km. Its so because I included the first time I filled it up when I bought it last year which had no petrol in it so it says I was doing 96L/km.

In the time I've owned the car now which has been just over a year, I've only filled it up maybe 10 times as I don't actually drive that much now so all the driving is stop start and maybe only like 5-10km at a time so fuel usage isn't the best at the moment. - OBC reads roughly 8.6km/L which I reset when I bought it.

  10. Don't quote me but I would think the car will be prewired for fog. Check for spare wiring/plugs in the vicinity of the headlights.

You would probably need to add the relay & the fog light switch (assuming wiring is present)

Thanks for the quick reply. I'll take a look tomorrow when there is more light. Yeah I know about the LCM switch which can be change without actually changing the LCM by just apparently changing the plate of it with one that has the fog lights.

I've already had a quick glance at the fuse box earlier and cannot see anything behind where the fogs fuses should be so I assume it may not be prewired but will need to double check.

If only I checked before I bought the car a year ago haha would have preferred front fogs to rear fogs which I never need to use

  11. Hi,

I've got a E46 Facelift which unfortunately did not come with any fog lights as its a basic model.

I've found a pdf from 46Fanatics on a diy with a kit containing the harness etc from bmw but was wondering how hard it would actually be. The only thing I've done to my car is wiring my angel eyes to the remote wire under the glovebox and connecting it to the day time running lamps.

Has anyone else done this diy for a e46. Also looking at doing this as Im thinking of getting one of krish's m3 rep bumpers so I thought it would be better having the fog lights installed.

    Cheers
