  1. Try adjusting the door striker on the "B" pillar first....where abouts are you from ?

im a bit of a noob. where is the "b" pillar? is that the thing that moves when u pull the handle? or the hinge where the door meets the body? im on the north shore. what type of place would i take it too to get fixed? mechanics or panel beaters?

  2. Atm my interior of my e36 320i coupe is like a pale grey? I was thinking when i get the door cards reupholstered to get them coloured a slightly darker colour? but thinking that if they were to spray my dashboard and other bits it would cost a lot for the labour/time for them to remove it from the actual car to paint it?. Would it be easier if i did it myself? or is it a too fiddly job to get the dashboard actually out?

  3. My coupe door seems really hard to open sometimes. Sometimes i need to pull the handle really really hard to open it. It only happens n the passenger door. When opening from the inside it is also hard to open. gotta pull the handles really hard. Would it be the door handle itself or could it be due to the door hinges dropping caused it to be harder?

  4. About jan this year got my primera done at tint a car - midnight express 35% did a good job and was about 295$ but think that was on special. Thinking about getting my bmw coupe done now just wondering whether 35% midnight express tints or reflective mirror tints would suit it

  5. Check the light bulb

Check the contacts are clean and shiny and tight

    What transmission do you have?

    EGS A4S 310R, (with A M switch = Auto, Manual) or

EGS A5S 310Z (with E*S switch = Economy, Ice, Sport)

The illumination of the A/M or E*S switch is caused by bulbs inside the switch and fed from a separate power source to the transmission control, but I think this is not your problem.

I think you mean the transmission position indicator light is not working.

The transmission position indicator light is fed from the light switch via the dimmer

At the transmission position indicator light:

Green/red wire is power for illumination

Ground will be a brown wire.

The green/red wire comes from the illumination dimmer switch, which also feeds all other interior illumination

If all other illumination works (ashtrays, hazard light, ASC switch, instrument cluster illumination), and just the transmission position indicator doesn't, then check the wire feeding the lamp, check the lamp connections, check the earth wire, etc. Should be easy to find.

Thanks for that will do. and is it normal for the letters not to light up? so only the transmission indicator to light up?

  6. That is quite expensive, my mate had both his front door cards done for $120 incl GST.

second hand parts are extremely difficult to find and almost always require re-triming anyway

Thanks i'll have a look around for some auto trimmers around my area. hopefully they will be cheaper on the north shore. Thanks for the help

btw. what area did your mate get his fixed? was it anywhere in auckland??

  7. Wow, that seems very expensive! (I guess it is cloth and not leather)

Second hand parts could be a better option.

Yea its cloth... i've looked around on trademe for 2nd hand door cards but no one got em for sale. but then again thats new market.. expensive place.. i haven't tried anywhere on the north shore yet but i was thinking it would be cheaper there... how much do you guys think is reasonable for a full repair?

  8. My check control unit display seems to be a bit broken. The text doesn't display properly on it so i assume the screen has had it. I need it for at 1994 320i e36 coupe. Its displaying a check message but i can't read it and would like to know what it is for. something to do with light thats all i can read. So yea if anyone knows where i can pick one of these up cheap i'd be very happy. cheers

  9. That sounds like excessive fuel usage, however is the air filter clean? is the car warming up to normal operating temp? (Middle position on Temp Gauge) Thermostats that are faulty stop this happening which will increase fuel usage due to the car never really warming up to normal temp.

I used to have an E36 320i auto, I did find it a bit heavy on fuel, but more like 12-13L/100k, what your suggesting is 20L/100k

well i looked check the theromostat on da dash it gets to half way after a drive but i just read on some of service records from previous owner that the thermo stat was faulty.... so that cud be causing the problem since it mite be giving me a faulty reading.... is this expensive to fix? and i took out the filter and it looks pretty clean to me..

  10. I bought a 1994 bmw 320 e36 bout 2 months ago and found out that it seems to be using way too much petrol. its a 6 cylinder 2.0l car but im only getting 4-5km per litre... thats with unleaded 95. i checked the spark plugs and saw that they were looked a bit funny. see picture Posted Image do i need to replace those(all 6 of em look like this)? and what else could be causing my bmw to use so much petrol?
