Kiwi is right, the e34 has a 20mm offset as standard, so the hub center is inboard more than on most. Take a look at this.
-
You may notice it if the airbag is not working and you get a face full of steering wheel when you 'drift' into a lamp post.

Have a look on Roadfly in the BMW forums. It could be that one of the many micro switches linked to the system has gone south, or you knocked something loose. Either way, you'll need to find a dealer or workshop with a diagnostic tool to tell you whats wrong or reset the light.

Have you managed to check your DME number yet kiwi?

That sucks arse gus, sorry to see your ride die like that. Now would be the perfect time to upgrade to the e34 you've always wanted

Straight 6, DOHC engine, some with VANOS

Yeah, I would be interested to know if its the same as mine. I suspect it will be. I emailed Mark when I first got the wrong chip and told him about the version mismatch. He scratched his head a little, because his data on the motronic says that the e34 never had the older v1.1 DME. My guess is that NZ and possibly Oz were special cases; we would have been some of the only countries to not get cats. He did say he could make a chip for the older DME, but he thought it would be better if i could find a more advanced motronic first. Tonight I'll pull my DME out and get one of the propeller heads here at work to copy the EPROM chip and send it to Mark so he can have a play.. :bounce:

You can find the DME number by taking the cover off the black box on the drivers side on the engine bay, removing the harness and pulling the DME out. The number is on a Bosh sticker on the box. A better descriptions is here I actually ordered an EAT chip, but didn't know to check the DME numbers and so have the wrong one. I've been looking for a v1.3 motronic from a later 535 for a month or so, but haven't found one cheap enough. From what I've read, using a later DME without an O2 probe will cause the unit to run in an open loop, telling the DME that the 02 is perfect all the time, causing it to run a little rich. I'd be really interested to know what your DME number is.

I'm looking at exhaust and a couple of other options for gaining a few extra hp from my e34 535, NZ delivered, build date 6/88. When I check the VIN number here I'm told I have a catalytic converted installed. From what I've read in other forums, I don't think that's true, and when I changed the oil yesterday, I had a good look under the car and couldn't tell. The other odd thing is the DME number of the ECU does not match that of other early 535's over seas. The DME numbers match the last of the 635's and early 735's. This lead me to think that we got a more basic version of the Motronic (v1.1 instead of the standard v1.3) for use without O2 sensors and cat's. I've spoken to Brent a little about this, but I'd love to hear others thoughts. Thoughts?

Mint ride mate  I cant stand riced up M3's, leave it as zee Germans intended

There is a bloody mint ACS e34 540 around town here in Christchurch. Black with shadowline rim, riding on 18inch AC mags with a beautiful sounding exhaust. I see it sometimes near where I work in the city and feel green as hell.
-
I'd buy the M5 simply so I could look at that engine bay whenever I wanted

Haha I put 40 pinga in mine yesterday from almost empty and the needle is still below halfway We should get a Bimmersport fuel club going! Surely there is some kind of discount for fleet fuel purchases?
-
All the EAT, JC etc chips do is replace the standard look-up table on an EPROM chip in the DME with a tweaked version.

Carbon deforms very little before it lets go, so you need to make sure you over-design your brace. You don't want it to go bang halfway through a fast corner Really the only reason you would use carbon would be to save weight. Using a good alloy would make more sense. You could always buy a cheap steel one and cover it with carbon

Ive got an e34, so it may be different but... S - Sport, shifts the change points up higher so the engine stays inside the power area of the rev range. E - Economy, shift points are lower to keep the engine at its most efficient. M - Manual hold, psudo-manual, holds the gearbox in the selected gear so you can start in 2, 3, or even 4. The gearbox wont shift out of the selected gear until you change it.

Years ago I lived in a mouse infested flat in wellington. My mate and I used to come home boozed late at night and use pots and pans to catch the mice as they ran through the living room. You just have to be quick

My e34 does the same thing, but only slightly. I'm pretty sure it’s a slight warp in one of the discs because I can feel a 'pulse' in the breaking force when slowly coming to a stop. I can literally feel where the warp is.

The price from Germanplates is pretty good: 33 euros shipped to NZ (surface mail, 1-3 weeks delivery) which is around $62! I'll have to get my e34 a gift...
