  1. As others have said, It's a legally binding contract to buy. However, in this case both parties obviously understand it was a mistake haha.

The thing about Trademe that really pisses me off is they sold their soul when they sold the original company. They literally do not care what happens as long as they get their fee and no one is trying to get around that fee. If they don't get their fee or they find you trying to avoid it, may baby jesus have mercy on your soul.

I've had numerous purchases that were legitimately purchased for reasonable amounts, only for the seller to sell it to someone else (after the auction has closed). Trademe just reply with a "tough sh*t" generic answer. I've also had a couple of trades where the seller has done a runner with my money and neither the Police or Trademe really care. Bought a gearbox up north a few years back, had the guys address, two of his car rego numbers, workplace etc only for the officer "investigating" it after months of following up with him to cold shoulder me... but that's a whole 'nother box of frogs.

Another is the auctions where reserve is met, numerous bidders, only for a couple of days until bidding closes the auction is withdrawn. Trademe gets their withdrawl fee, they don't care.

Bought some AMG Aero 3's last month, paid the guy then after weeks of messing around he refunded me my money and gave me some story about how he couldn't sell them anymore... in other words he sold them to someone else.

Basically, unless you have loads of money to take them to small claims and a small team of PI's to locate them... TM is just a place that relies on peoples good will and ethics.

  2. engraving hint: use tape. rule your guidelines. carefully print your script on the tape, stick to the substrate. use slowest rotational speed on your engraver that you can, and try to maintain your hand at same angle to the substrate as you trace your words. I've found that it catches and wants to head in its own direction when I've leant the cutter head over. take your time.

I've done some using an engraving cutter on my dremel with handpiece; with some patience you can get good results. peel tape off afterwards, boomshankah!

Excellent tips, thanks. I used the engraving tip on the Dremel but at half speed with no tape/writing. Might have to practice on some spare metal.

    ^ alternatively,

polish to smooth finish, tape up, sand blast with rough grit, stain with enamel, rub clean.

What do you mean stain with enamel? Quite like a Bronze finish, got seven more here I can play with haha.

  3. That looks cool.

Wonder what one would look like completely cleaned, then polished, and then clear coat instead of silver?

Probably a sh*t load better I'd say. The silver really wasn't what i was aiming for but had spent the money and painted it already lol.

As Borat says... Very nice, how much? You could chuck a few of these on TardMe :)

Could definitely chuck a few on Tardme, the clock inserts are about $20 delivered.. I just don't know how much to list one for.

Going to make a lamp out of the my 190E's cam shaft, just need to find a machine shop that can drill longitudinally through it for the cord to run through.

  4. Hey folks,

Just thought I'd leave this here...

Made this clock for my Dads birthday today, first attempt at one and first attempt at engraving. I think my engraving needs some work and for the next one I think I'll find a different clock insert as this one needs to be removed from the bearing cups to change the battery/time.

The paint was supposed to be stainless steel but i could have just bought a can of silver for half the price... maybe I'll do satin black next.

I also toyed with a style using just the rod, minus the piston.

    Cheers!

  5. Hey guys,

Got a good condition 5hp24 from a 98 540i, shifted smoothly, no problems.

Comes with torque converter but has the common lock up problem.

Was removed from my 540i that had timing chain guide failure, sold the shell.

Can arrange freight. Located in Dunedin.

    $500

  6. Damn, thats nice and tidy! If i had the coin I'd be keen to replace the missus' car but take a free bump in the mean time.

On a side note, know anyone with a slightly cheaper E30 or Golf in town wanting to swap for a lappy? Sealed, insurance replacement. Runs DotA and BF4 on ultra. High specs.

  7. not sure about other mono-wiper cars, but it was a very good system on the 190E, the wiper moved on runners in the shaft and telescoped moving in an M shape as it crossed the window, a better wipe than a conventional two wiper system.

E38 and E39 are "backwards" as well

    This.

Loved the wiper on my 190, when i got the E39 i really missed it. Now i have it back in the S124 and loving it again :D It's quite cool to watch it work.

Have taken both units apart for service as they need repacked with grease after 20 years before the gear strips out.
