  1. Can you buy a better car for the cost of the timing chain repair?

Well, I bought an S124 E320T. I always wanted one, a cheap one popped up and I grabbed it. A week later the BMW did it's rails so i wasn't so pissed at it :)

Nothing quite grabs my heart as much as 124,201 and 126 series Mercedes. Have a 190e in the garage that I'm currently converting from a 2.0 8v to 3.0-24v to be used as the wifes car.

If it was just the rails this car needed I would have fixed it. But it needs a bit of engine work such as CCV, valley pan gasket, panel work, full under body plastics, radiator, AC radiator, the list goes on. Previous owner drove it though a farm fence and into a ditch.

yeah I know the listing now. would you have the front bumper as well? would do a deal together with the mirrors. freight to Auckland not a problem I will organize it. Cheers Dimitrios 0297704761

Yes, not a problem. It's the facelift bumper if that makes any difference. I also have the fog lights for it too. Send me an email pearcemustang@xtra.co.nz

  2. Haha typical dirty south! Yea I was very tempted to buy it but guessing regd had lapsed if they were wanting plates and tags

Yep! I spotted they had re listed it again, i was sure it had rego so i don't know why they would want plates and tags... probably for some other dodgy adventure.

Should buy my one! A project ;)

Also forgot to mention, if anyone has a large air compressor or other tools they wish to swap for parts, I'm all ears.

  3. By any chance is the abs unit missing because you brought that 540i on dirty south with the bung abs unit?

Haha, nah some guys bought it then came and got the unit off me at 10:30pm. Had already been in contact with the seller as he was going to buy the unit but didn't.

He sold that 540 really cheap, think he let it go for under 1800.

Had them message me yesterday asking if I'd sell plates and tags......

  4. Hey guys,

Parting out my 1998 540i, has EDC, high OBC, facelift style tail lights, m steering wheel and airbag $250, style 66 alloys with near new tyres $750, near new cabin filters $30 and spark plugs. M5 style electric folding mirrors $200

Pulling apart as not economical to repair the timing chain guides. Engine still runs fine just noisey. 240Km.

I'm in Dunedin but have no problems sending around the country.

I have no problem dismantling larger parts if you only need certain items. Such as Heads, valve covers, VANOS units etc etc. I plan to use the block as a coffee table once it's stripped.

The ABS unit is the only thing currently missing.

  5. Definitely tell your insurance you aren't happy with the repair.

My experience with them is terrible too. On my old run about Laser, they did a windscreen and managed to completely rip 10cm all along the edge of the headliner.

On my E320 recently they did a windscreen and again managed to break the engine bay divider, broke four plastic mounting tabs and screw holes as well as losing two screws. Finally they couldn't get the bottom window/wiper seal to seat properly so they just siliconed it in, now I have messy silicone everywhere and can't get the seal into the grooves because of all the dried silicone in the channel (had to service mono wiper recently so removed it).

I wouldn't recommend them to anyone.

  6. Hey folks,

Good condition M wheel and airbag, includes everything as unbolted from the column. Switches, ring and airbag. Good tri colour stitching.

    $300.

  7. Your're on point there coop, a friend of dads is on his second set of chain tensioners in his 5.4 BA in only a few thousands k's. Tensioner piston seal buggered itself and takes too long to build up pressure.

Got the car home today, definitely making some rattling chain noises! Just out of interested, what would the car be worth roughly to sell it on how it currently sits? 240k, new tyres on the style 66's, new plugs, oil, cabin filters etc. Don't really want to fix it as need the money to tune my Ford but at the same time it seems such a waste to flick it off.

  8. Theres one of these at Barry Cottle Motors in Mosgiel (a little town about 20 mins out of Dunedin). Think they are asking 28-32000 for it, it's been there for a while. Will try and get some more details on it, don't see many of them around at all.

  9. Omg hahaha, just what I needed to read at 12:30am.

I love the "I'll take you for a ride and youll feel it for yaself", Yeah.. to most ex-Integra folks, it would probably feel like 450hp.

Didn't you guys know, a pod filter is worth an extra 50-300hp on its own? Especially if it's mounted right above the headers for that cold air induction like most typical NZ'ers do.

Are any of you members of "Dirty South Car Club" on Facebook? This is the sort of mentality that goes on there daily. I had to stop browsing so often as the ignorance, naivety and general arrogance masquerading as knowledge of cars was almost giving me an aneurysm.
