Thanks Allan. Ok, i'll get someone to have a gander and if its a major i'll sell it as a parts car. I traded it in at work on a brand new Mazda 3 for $500. It's a 2000 520i done 114,000km in silver and bloody straight to be honest!

Any offers? I don't even want it so by all means try me..

    Tyres brand new

Apart from this leak issue it actually drives really well!

    Body very straight

  2. May take longer than 30 seconds. Other thing that can make them sound as if they are locking up is a faulty crankshaft position sensor. They don't always throw a code. Disconnect the plug under manifold and pull back rubber boot and check to see if the insulation on the wiring has disintegrated. If so replace and repeat.

  3. * Both front comfort seats in full working order except one seatbelt pretensioner and both lumbar supports. Leather skins have been refinished so are mint black gloss at the moment (I started a recolour but gave in and went back to black). You can have the seat bases, etc if you can bothered to pick it up but I would like a bit of coin for the leather skins and headrests which are pretty much like new now!

    * Rear bumper trim w/chrome strip (standard bumper)

    * Eyebrows

    * Brand new black floor mats w/ beige leatherette trim

    * Complete walnut (nussbaum) trim set w/ cruise control button

    * Original MID and tape deck

    * Right rear leather door card (vinyl armrest)

A few other bits and pieces - PM me if you're interested in any of it.

    MID? How much

  4. thanks got the unit back repaired. there is some instructions

disconnect battery before install and check pump earth before reconnection

how do i check the pump earth? its a fully enclosed unit :S?

Use a Multi-Meter and check at the plug (Ohm's test). There is two wires that are noticeably larger than the others.

One is a positive feed..the other is the earth.

*May pay to probe the plug with a sewing pin...not the Multimeter probe as it may damage the female terminal int hte plug*

  5. Anyone had any experience of replacing the dials and needles in an E39 instrument cluster? I can get the cluster in and out no problem and open it up but I've heard it's notoriously difficult to get the needles off without damaging the whole unit and equally difficult to replace them so they are correctly configured.

Saw this bespoke tool on Youtube but they're expensive to buy:

Any help would be appreciated? (this is a cosmetic job, nothing's broken so if it's too much of a mission I'll flag it).

I tried to pull needles of an E36 some years ago to fit a white dial kit. Buggered it, Had to get a new cluster and had a sh*t time finding one with similar KM's.

  6. I hear what you are saying and that's what I am trying to understand, what is the benefit. On the other hand if you have spent money modifying the car, shocks, roll bars, springs etc I am frustrated not to be able to get the full benefit for the sake of the tyres. It's like adding cams, manifolds etc and putting in a rev limiter!

I must admit I'm not convinced what to do yet and the RE002's do seem to be racking up the votes. Shame you can't get a free test!

    RDR1

Pirellis & Contis are great in Europe. But our roads are different here, I have spent the money numerous times on these two brands only to be disappointed.

Sometimes the dearest is not best.

Some tire shops will guarantee the tires to be to your liking for a month or your money back, Just ask.

  7. i did last years track day on RE002s and i was throwing the 5 at corners trying to keep the momentum up and always turned fine etc. the kingstars on the back different story though lol got tailhappy in a 520i Auto :D

    +1 on the Bridgestone RE's

I have always run RE050a's RFT on the BMW's, Even my old E39 has RFT.

Have RE002's on the Porsche but can't really justify the extra on a road going daily driver.

It came with Conti Sport Contact 3's but they were soooooo noisy.

Very sticky in any condition. :D

  8. have lost the keys for my car. Dont have a spare.

What are my options? Preferably i dont want to spend much .

I got a new key for a E39 530i a few weeks ago. (Lost it)

3 days ex Coombes Johnston BMW Hamilton.

  9. Give it a go yourself then. You will then find out his price quoted was quite reasonable. The belt is $65-$100 + Gst depending where you buy it. The AC belt must come of first to do it along with the Viscous fan coupling. The hose clips for the hose, power steering fluid & the mess to clean up... $200 is a very fair price

Have to agree with Glenn, $200 is more than fair....

  10. These are still for sale if anyone is interested....

Great in major citys, Like AKL and WTN,

Totally illegal but its like this...

Cop beams you, System alerts you...slow down....flick them off. cop goes for a second round...reads your speed and he is none the wiser.

I had these on my last Porsche..Saved my ass on numerous occasions on the Motorway and a couple on the Napier-Taupo RD.

Well worth it if you like to hum along..

If you get questioned about them just tell em those little black boxes came with the car and you don't know a thing about them

    xD
