Nissan Note Nismo

Nice interior, handle well, can go further than the shops and back.
They are a series hybrid. So electric motors with a ICE generator.I seriously looked at a couple of Note Nismos. Cool car, but in the end, I decided the BMW is a lot more car for the $.

I wouldnt go back to dailying an ICE though, nothing beats the instant torque, silent running and costing bugger all to run.
The problem with a PHEV is you are getting the worst of both worlds. A short battery range, and lugging around the ICE hardware. What people dont understand about normal PHEVs (i cant comment on the REX as thats technically an EV with a range extender), is that the ICE only fuel consumption once the battery runs out is terrible, worse than most standard ICE cars and definitely worse than a normal hybrid (which also doesnt pay RUC).
The fuel consumption is not true about the 330e. I get excellent economy when the battery is empty.
Comparing my 535i and 330e which have very similar performance. The 535i highway cruises between 7-8.5l/100km, the 330 on ICE only cruises between 4.5-6l/100km. Even with RUC added the 330e is cheaper.
In a specific use case, the PHEV is cheapest. e.g. only running sub 30km round trips.
With all that said, when I can afford a replacement car it will be a full EV.
-
My 330e has been pretty good. Current fuel average is 2.9l/100km but can get around Hamilton without charging.
Comparing for gas at $2.70.
I pay $11.43 per 100km excluding power.
An EV pays $7.60 per 100km excluding power.
An equivalent petrol would need to be using about 4.2l/100km to match.
Got to add power costs there but you get the idea.
Would prefer a 530e next time, but oh well.

Doesn't matter once the clothes are on the floor.

Overpriced by a long way.

Looks like a regular 535i to me?
Dad used to have an E34 535i while I was in high school, and I thought it was pretty cool. Glacier blue with dark navy leather.

Sounds illegal to me, can't be bothered looking it up though.
Find another dealer/car.

Ugh soft touch. My Maserati had it everywhere and all of it was sticky. It takes ages to clean off and then repaint. I used this, but probably any paint would do. Dupli-Color Vinyl and Fabric Aerosol Paint, Flat Black - 311g | Supercheap Auto New Zealand

All down to age and tyre type in the OP's case. An old, worn all season vs a new UHP, I wonder if there will be a difference?

All my insurances have gone up significantly this/last year, with State who were the cheapest at the time. So, it's not just AA.
Unfortunately for AA, they weren't offering anything over what State offer me and weren't willing to negotiate.

There's a lot more going on under the surface on the cyber truck. Structural body panels, battery tech, steer by wire, etc. Euros are the cars crammed with gimmicks. China knows what's up, make high commodity, affordable, practical, and efficient ev boxes on wheels.

Haven't watched the video yet, but from what I have seen of the new 5 so far. What is the point of it? It's time for some real innovation in cars. Cybertruck is a step in the right direction.

Quote21 hours ago, Vass said:It boils my piss how short-sighted and surface level the whole "sustainability" discourse is nowadays. All blame and finger-pointing at the out-group without any deep and systematic analysis.
Both sides in this anecdote look to be misdirecting their frustration and missing the greater point.
The old fella in this article accusing the youths of hypocrisy, due to them supposedly "demanding" and not being able to live without all these products and services that were introduced to market whilst these youths were literal children and had no influence on anything.
The young cashier is misguided in seemingly believing that purely consumer decisions have the power to change anything. As if "green capitalism" is, ever was or ever will be, a thing. If every single person in society owned a tote bag and drank slurpies through a metal straw instead of plastic, we would still be not even an inch further from being completely and utterly f**ked.
Bottom line is - the capitalist system is built upon ever-increasing consumption.
More consumption = economic growth = good.
Less consumption = recession = BAD.
You cannot produce anything without creating waste and pollution. By gearing everything towards higher consumption and economic growth the system literally fuels pollution. To at the same time preach any notion of sustainability is extremely disingenuous.
So long as the economy needs infinite growth to function, any notion of sustainability is pie in the sky.
Either work towards fundamentally changing the fabric of society and decouple the economy from its cancerous addiction to infinite growth, or shut the f**k up about sustainability. You can't have both.
I agree with the anti capitalist notion, but still think we should have a strong focus on sustainability. Just because things will run out under the current system doesn't mean we should use it all as fast as possible.

By the same logic you should replace them every 5k to 10k kilometers or within 2 years as the performance of a tyre drops off significantly once worn and aged, you wouldn't want to compromise your safety would you? There was a tyre reviews video which demonstrated a worn Michelin was significantly worse than a new budget tyre.
Regarding the triangle noise, I think I agree, the Laufenns were quite noisey as well. The FRD26 seems pretty quiet though.
Everyone has their priorities, as a daily driver not doing any spirited driving I am happy with the performance of my budget tyres and I think they have come a long way in the last 10 years. If I was still interested in pushing the boundaries I would look at something higher grade. I'm also buying in the 19/20" sizes and the difference in price is huge. Think $800 a set instead of $2400.

I have had a few cheap tyres now and few/no issues, used to be a bit of a tyre snob. Biggest issues I have had with tyres is age and i feel anyone complaining about grip levels should check the date stamp on their tyres. I could be wrong but I suspect the main issue with the OP is that they're all season and age.
Currently I'm running Farroad FRD26 and Blacklion HU02 which came on my car/wheels. Have had Triangle TH201 and Atturo AZ850 as well and they were fine. With that said I rarely drive spiritedly anymore as sadly the 535i and 330e just aren't worth bothering in that regard.
I have an inkling that the new Triangle TH202 is probably a decent buy at present.

There's an F10 520d M-sport on facebook at the moment for $8100. A lot of car for the money!

Different experiences. There's certainly plenty of ratty, smoky, Japanese imports. I just don't buy them.
Off the top of my head I have had at least 4 Japanese imports that are many years old with various mileages but appear to have just rolled off the factory floor. Usually within weeks of them being here in NZ they scratched in multiple places.

Good luck finding a well maintained NZ new F11
Or any well maintained NZ new car.

Wikipedia has the specs of all the engines, even if the numbers don't quite match all the Japanese models. The 2.5 is an N52. The 2.0 turbo N20B20 would be better.

Worst thing about black cars isn't the heat, it's that they're dirty again 5 minutes after you just clean them. It's a reasonable idea to wait for the right car. I wouldn't settle for one in poor condition, even if it is cheap.

Not many available on trade-me at the moment. Here's my picks:
https://www.trademe.co.nz/a/motors/cars/bmw/523i/listing/4407845419
https://www.trademe.co.nz/a/motors/cars/bmw/535i/listing/4391340312
https://www.trademe.co.nz/a/motors/cars/bmw/335i/listing/4238028052
https://www.trademe.co.nz/a/motors/cars/bmw/328i/listing/4397012724
- 523i has the N20 2.0 turbo 135kw. Might be a bit down on power.
- 535i has the N55 3.0 turbo 225kw .
- 328i has the N20 2.0 turbo 180kw.
- 335i has the N55 3.0 turbo 225kw.
I would potentially just stay with the car you have.

2 hours ago, Apex said:25km would be fine for most people, us included, I really like that concept, not only does it save on fuel costs it reduces unneeded wear and tear on the ICE motor with repeated cold starts and short distances. Great concept. A shame they don't do a touring.
Regarding performance, what I found was the following, please correct me if I am wrong.
The 330e can do 0-100 sprints in about the same time, 6 seconds or so. But It can only do it a few times before running out of "electric motor assistance", and at that point its a 0-100 in 9-10 second car.
Same for a back road blast, if you were to leave Bombay and drive "enthusiastically" or "performance", you would have no "hybrid assistance" by the time you hit Mercer and essentially be driving a 330i with three Samoans in the back.
A 535i on the other hand can floor it all day with consistent performance and its only hinderance is having to recharge for 5 min every 400km.
Yep super useful for the 5km round trip for school and the shops.
I haven't pushed it enough to run out of assistance yet. Will need to take it out for a proper run
. My 330e isn't an M-sport so it's not really that fun to punt around.
What's gonna grind my gears next year is RUC, which is TBC.
Is it worth buying a 130i if I don’t know much about cars/fixing myself?

The only disaster part I know of on the 130i is the ABS pump. Thousands to replace.
M135i is a great car, blow away a Golf GTI.
