  1. I have some lowering springs to go in my E46 and the dilemma is always, while you're in there you might as well put in some bilsteins, new strut tops, those things that spread the weight better (so you don't get cracking or bowing - I forget the term), wheel alignment, etc, etc and it soon becomes an expensive exercise.

Is your car a motorsport? Mine is, and it already has a mild drop compared to what I can see of your profile pic. I'm going to look at an E46 at the weekend that I'm told is on Z3 springs and that thing is quite 'slammed'. Might be something to look into?

  2. Please see my project thread for further context -

I've noticed a few things in my interior seem back to front.

For example, if I open my drivers door, the dash shows the passenger side as open and vise-versa.

I'm wondering if this might be related to my park lights, which don't work when the stalk is pushed forward, but do when it's pulled back.

    Thanks

In a nutshell, one of the things I failed my wof for was "Both front seat belt dual sensitivity not working". I've not managed to find m/any failures of this online or how to fix it. I've done the easy stuff like cleaned the belts and blown out any dust from the receptacle but not disassembled the units. Seems strange both sides have failed?

Has anyone come across this before? I am I best just to get new belts and if so, from where?

    Thanks

    • Possible LSD conversion - will first throw in the 2.93 diff I got with the manual conversion to see whether it's as sluggish as some reports suggest. Further down the line might give this RacingDiffs conversion a go on the 3.38 auto diff in case if I ever feel brave enough to take on some track days. Reviews look pretty good and for the money seems pretty good value.

These have a long and chequered history, better known as a "Phantom Grip" if you want to do some research on them.

  5. Very jel of the ZF you have there. Trying to get one myself without giving up an arm and a leg. Then add the detents, shifter refresh, clutch master/slave (because why wouldn't you?) on top of the 1k worth of clutch it's a very expensive exercise just to choose your own gears.

Holly S**T!!!! IS this for real?  So this car has been all to bits for non-compliance and re-assembled and this is not mentioned at all in the ad?  What bullsh*t  The last time this car was for sale (still for sale?)  a year or so ago, I had a look at carjam and observed that it had only done 1000 kms in the last 10 years. This concerned me due to degradation from non-use so I called the seller and ask if they could explain why this was.  I was told  'it was owned by a collector'

Now the truth comes out.  So, at some point 12 years ago this car was 'parted out'... then reassembled... and is now worth $100k.  Interesting.

I'm not sure you can blame the current owner. It wasn't mentioned (that I can see) in the HellBm ad linked above either - and they definitely knew.

Wonder what the actual differences are with a regular Msport wheel, flappy paddles aside. Bottom tri-spoke trim looks to be bullet grey or something as opposed to black. Apart from that... 🤷‍♂️

$1,300 seems to be the biggest difference 🤔

  8. Welcome, where are you moving back from?

I did 12 years in the UK and was part of a active car club (non BMW). We drove to Europe three or four times, attended the majority of the big UK shows, Sana Pod events in the pouring rain, dyno days, engine building weekends, club rates on parts (those days seem gone), drinking and crashing out in our cars etc. plus regular meets in the City for a vindaloo.

I appreciate NZ is a small country, but when I moved back towards the end of 2013 I quite shocked at how inactive things had become over here. The club I left had grown weeds. Everyone seemed to have packed up their s..t and moved to Facebook-land where it's easier to post pics of past events than to plan them. I attend a few things locally, Southwards cars n coffee is relatively good. The BMW Car Club also organises pub meets and weekend cafe events in the region which are good. I can't speak to membership as I haven't joined. Check out the Christchurch section of the forum and see if anything is on. Hopefully, if you are motivated, you can make some contacts and get something going. I believe the BMW club were looking for a CHCH person at one point.
