  1. I'll backtrack slightly. The invoice says 'cnc muffler'. We spoke on the phone after he had initially had a look at the car and had said this part was my best bet. No guarantee was implied as to it being the perfect fix so I don't feel I have right to make it his problem. When I re-visited the shop, I had the stock rear muffler in the boot but he reckoned it wouldn't do the job and the centre section was the issue. Unfortunately, the stock muffler has been chopped by whoever removed it so some fabrication is definitely required. Nice video! I'm not totally sure how different mine is. I'll have to grab a clip this weekend.
  2. The saga continues..... I dropped my car off recently to a muffler shop and explained my issue with the drone. The photo below shows what was fitted (not a muffler, I can't remember what he called it). To be honest, I don't really notice any difference from how it was before. I swung by the same shop to see what else could be done and he reckoned I really need to get my hands on the oem centre pipe with muffler intact to make a real difference to the sound. Do I take this as gospel and start the hunt for original (2nd hand) bits or try a different shop? The photo is taken from underneath the backbox pointing towards the front wheels - just in case it's not obvious! ?
  3. It is very short! I think I may have a SSK kit on the car so although it looked good, I just couldn't get comfortable with it. I swapped it out for a 'Weighted Broomstick' part No. 25117896884 which I'm far happier with. I think it actually suits the interior better too.
  4. @KwS Cheers for the info. I'm very new to the BMW world so had no idea!
  5. The controls are there but I havent tried it yet. Is it that important? ? ?
  6. Looking to sell on the knob pictured below. It's got some wear that I've done my best to highlight in the photos. Looking to get $80. Would prefer someone local to Wellington as contactless pick-up could be arranged during the lockdown. No shifter boot included.
  7. Nice one. Thanks for the help guys. Much appreciated!
  8. Cheers for the input guys. Would a resonator be an off-the-shelf or specialist item? As you can tell, I'm not totally clued up on exhaust systems!
  9. Just the info I was after! As soon as i bought the car, I grabbed a stock 130i muffler off Facebook for $80. Just in time for lockdown ? Reckon I'll get it fitted when I can and hopefully I won't lose too much of the engine scream but in turn fly under the radar while driving around quiet neighbourhoods. Thanks again!
  10. I did notice the welding ? As long as no gases are leaking I don't mind it too much. I agree that it'd be good to get it up on a lift but that'll have to wait until this lockdown is over....
  11. Cheers Jacko! Just back from getting a couple of extra pics: Information plate from the muffler and the Y-Pipe. Any guesses on the main culprit for the drone? If i want to keep the brilliant noise from the Straight 6 on full throttle am I going to have to keep the slightly anti-social exhaust note while driving around at neighourhood speeds?
  12. Hi guys, Recently bought a 130i as my first BMW and loving the experience so far. I'm just starting out the journey of finding out what modifications the previous owners have made. At the moment, it's the exhaust system that has my attention. I'm aware that it has the MSport Performance muffler but can anyone shed some light as to whether or not the system has been further modified (cats removed etc)? I'm a bit torn with the current exhaust setup as it drones a little too much for my tastes while cruising around but I adore the sound while on full throttle! I'm a little embarrassed by the quality of the photos added but these aren't the easiest cars to crawl under! Any comments appreciated. Let me know if I need to get back under the car for better pics.
  13. Love the 135i. I actually considered a Cooper S before buying a 130i and definitely think I made the right choice (although I still wouldn't mind a Mini!).
  14. Cheers for that @///M I reckon once my replacement muffler comes I'll head along to Auto 38 and hopefully they can help me out and tell me if/what has been removed from the exhaust system.
  15. Cheers Jacko! I best keep away from that Birds B1 thread. Definitely don't need any further encouragement on the spending front $$$$!!!
  16. Afternoon everyone! A few firsts for me here: First BMW First RWD First Larger Displacement Engine First time posting here! Just picked up this 130i after selling my Subaru Legacy GT Spec B wagon. I've been a long time jap/turbo fan and just got itchy feet after having the GT for 1 year. I actually really missed it but didn't need the space it offered and decided I wanted/needed a hot hatch. I almost went for a Golf R32 but was desperate to stay in a manual car and it's near impossible to find a manual golf in NZ (I'm originally from Scotland). it wasn't until relatively recently that I realised the 130i was within budget.... I've spent many, many hours reading and watching reviews and decided to focus my attention on the little car with the massive engine squeezed in! At the time of posting, I've only driven the car once along the highway after picking it up. A very different power delivery from my turbo Subaru but I love the instant get-up-and-go offered from the straight 6. One thing that's putting me off driving it any further is the exhaust. It's been fitted with the MSport Performance back box and I actually hate it. It initially put me off buying the car but I've sourced an OEM back box that will be installed as soon as it's delivered. I find the noise pretty unbearable and want to keep the sleeper image that the 130i came with. Is there much of a demand for the Performance muffler? I'll be wanting to sell it on once changed out but no idea of what it's worth. Any honest opinions on what I should ask for it? I can't wait to get back in it and take it for a spirited drive. I'm absolutely delighted with the car and really look forward to all the road trips!
