  1. Forums will always be full of discussions and debates and opinions that's why most of us are here. I guess my personal buff on this particular issue isn't with the car it's with the wording on the listing. There will be more threads in the future about fake M3's as M3's are one of the cars that this forum is all about and what is discussed here.

hmmm.. the listing title is BMW 330ci Motorsport and they do not pretend it is an M3, even in the listing it says motorsport. Sure, the marketing may be a bit off but they are hardly trying to decieve people.

sounds like you being pretty precious too.....its NOT a M3 so why badge as such...be as honest as the BMW dealers themselves and just have a M badge at least.

pot, kettle, black - you seem to be the one being precious about a badge, and it is only a badge after all. How many hundreds of other cars on Trade Me have "M" badges on them? Will you be so up in arms about all of them as well? :P

My point that I was trying to get across is that there are too many members on here who jump up and down for something that is essentially very trivial :D

  2. You guys really all need to get over yourselves. This place is getting b*tchier than a hairdresser's salon before a big fat gypsy wedding!

I can see the point in discussing the other "fake M3" on here as it genuinely seems that the seller is trying to decieve people. In this case, the marketing may be off the mark but it is still a good looking car and it is a lot of car for the money. It has hardly been "ruined".

It seems like some of you trainspotters have nothing better to do than scan Trade Me, hide behind your keyboard and try to find stuff to bitch about. This forum is slowly degrading to the level of the Trade Me forums.

    *rant over* :P

  3. Good luck getting in anything tasty in without approval from the service agents for your steed of choice.

Try bringing in a Ferrari without Ateco being okay with it and see how far you get - they'll simply stop dealing with you.

Legally they have to honour the global factory warranty - a precendent for this has already been set in NZ courts, ironically with someone who privately imported a Ferrari. There are plenty of independent service agents who can look after your vehicle for you.

And the web-baed businesses with no stock and a direct import to customer model have sprung up to facilitate this whole process for theless savvy bargain hunters.

    Already on to that ;)

I just quoted a new A4 S-line Avant in full "kiwi spec" 15% cheaper than sourced locally and if need be I can have it here in a week!!

  4. Update:

Have been working hard of the last few weeks to remove 2 Seconds or more off the lap time.

--I have bought solid gearbox mounts as the standard ones have heaps of play

    Best Race Lap from Hampton @ 1:13.97 - http://vimeo.com/33475284

During this lap I had to deal the following which came apparent after the race....

-Loose bonnet, thing causes the front to lift which acts as a wind brake at high speed.

    -Loose Radiator

-The rear of the gearbox was sitting on top of the mounts but was not bolted down, this causes huge amounts of movement under brakes

-Buggered engine mounts - the engine had moved forward which is why the gearbox would not bolted down

-Loose steering rack, had about 5mm of lateral movement, this caused it to steer itself under brakes

-Leaking/cracked exhaust headers, this was due to stress caused by the engine moving forward and the headers were the only thing holding the engine in place.

Since they were only minor issues I did two more races in the same state but its definitely time for a overhaul.

I am by no means an expert racer but surely these are the sort of things should have been checked out when you did your "spanner check", especially when back in August you said you were replacing the gearbox mounts?

Buggered engine mounts, loose radiator and a loose bonnet would all stick out like the proverbial wouldn't they?

  5. Take this advice from someone in the trade and someone who is currently driving there 19th bmw.

The 17" motorsport wheels are all you should have on this.

    They are staggered fittment.

Provide an ultimate ride with 40/45 profile.

They have no bump steer and are firm but not hard at standard Motorsport height.

I put 285/30r19s an 265/35r19 on the front.

    Also lowered it.

Lasted 3 weeks then put it all back to standard.

To be honest your advice is not very good especially if you are "in the trade" as you put it. Yours probably didn't drive very well because your tyres are different heights. A 265/35 is about 15mm taller than the 285/30 on the rear. Perhaps it was more to do with your choice of wheel and tyre fitment than the car itself.

Just like others on here I have lowered and put E39's onto 19" wheels without any problems. I have always run a 235/35 and 265/30 combo front and rear or 245/35 and 275/30 combo and never had any issues and the cars have always driven very nicely.

OP:I say go for it with the M6 wheel but also perhaps look at a mesh type wheel like an LM replica or motorsport style :)

  6. I work part time for a vehicle importer that specialises in bespoke orders and ex-demo vehicles out of the UK.

As far as I am aware you can only claim VAT back if a, the car qualifies and b, you are a registered company in the UK. We have brought in quite a few cars for various clients and by far the best way of shipping is a Roll on Roll off system. The cars just get knocked around too much in containers.

RVT - your line of thinking is correct regarding VAT. If you buy from a private seller you won't be able to claim VAT. Much like GST here, it does not apply to second hand goods.

This is a Merc we have just brought in - http://www.trademe.co.nz/Browse/Listing.aspx?id=396004917 :)

  7. Edit: why is this guys insurance not paying for this? were you up his ass or driving too fast for the conditions or something? i dont see how he could stop so suddenly yet you cant?

I hate to say it but it is not the guy in the Micra's fault. You can argue it as much as you like but at the end of the day Mitch failed to stop safely so any insurance that would be paying will be his own.

  8. We specialise in late model, ex-demo cars which makes it a lot easier. :)

there are definitely some pitfalls when buying privately. Just don't buy from an auction house as they do not have to guarantee clear title. Also look out for any accident damge - the best thing is to have someone on the ground over there to check them out f you are looking at an older car.

  9. Hi Allan

You are right, it is a beautiful car. We actually have a company set up in the UK which is very helpful. We also have contacts in the shipping industry which again makes life a lot easier. If you are after something in particular please let me know. We are more than happy to try and help out

    thanks
