  1. In general all insurance companies look for any excuse to refuse a claim. The bigger the claim the harder they look.

They have customer's attempting to defraud them on a daily basis so they have whole departments dedicated to this. I worked for a big insurance company in Australia for a period.

Don't give them any reason to decline a claim, otherwise you are just wasting your premium.

Also, getting insurance at a decent premium after having a claim refused is tough. It's one of they questions they always ask.

  2. I think in the example story the undisclosed driving conviction would be enough to decline a claim.

But Stevens said one complaint to her office was over a stolen Nissan Primera with undeclared tints and a stereo and whose policyholder had not disclosed a driving conviction.

Moral of the story kids, be honest and upfront with everything. If you have modified something on your car, advise your insurance company.

I even tell them about the last speeding ticket I had in 2000 something....

If your insurance company then changes the price or advises any policy exemptions or cancellation you have the chance to take your business elsewhere.

  3. Horses for courses.

My dad's brand new Audi A8 front end was showing signs of rust after 3 years parked directly across from the beach.

Every car is different. Yes there have been some horror stories but nothing a good reliable check wouldn't uncover.

It's all down to getting the experts to check the car before the purchase. Only more important the older and higher km the car is.

  4. Cool! Jooles, great idea and I look forward to meeting you. Can take you on some great back roads for some ultimate driving machine pleasure.

keep me in the loop on this one. I haven't been north of Auckland in 15 years. Sounds like a great roadtrip.

  5. wise words there. 540 v M5 are like two very different cars. It's hard to describe. But the M part does change everything.

there's a few of us M5 owners (and ex M5 owners) up here in auckland that would be happy to provide advice on anything you see up here that you are serious on.

I did targaNZ in '06 with my M5. over a week of hard driving and sleeping in cr*p motels.

    No problem at all.

    :)

  6. Having owned E39 M5's for the last 10 years I can tell you without reserve they are wonderful long distance mile munchers with good gas milage to boot.

The standard suspension was alittle on the soft side for me so i lowered the front of mine but I wouldn't be concerned about the M tech suspension even on rough roads just try not to hit every pothole. They are more compliant and sorted that your average bilstein equiped subie.

Buy the best condition one you can find and you will never look back. Just bare in mind even the last editions are getting on 12 years old now so it pays to be fussy or make sure you plan on some maintenance work.

    Service history is a must.

  7. those were the days... Soper, Plato, Clelland, Tarquini, Menu. All crazy men.

WTCC now? snoooore. (even with Seb).

Goes to show. Big aero packages look cool but are so efficient that overtaking is super hard. Then any contact and the car has to come in.

Go back to the good old days of 90s. See only the Alfa had a rear spoiler and that was because it was on the standard roadcar.

    Nudge, nudge, nudge... pass!

    there's truth there!

  8. sometimes performance and "looks cool" are not mutually compatable.

Agreed it looks cool, but if I was in the market i'd prefer to locate a standard one and mod it myself.

Rather than deal with the issues of a car that's been scrapping it's ass all over the country.
