  1. Managed to find a reverse switch, just after the swivel joint now listed at 70usd on pelican (+shipping+gst) or i can get a oem spec Lemfoerder one shipped from ebay for around $130 (+any import duties).

Probably going to just get the ebay option if i cant find one in NZ.

  2. Hi guys,

Im after the following items if anyone can point me in their direction.

    1990 BMW 535is E34 (BF00713)

Reverse Switch - New one - 23141354071 - can get 59+gst from bmw but wondering any better options.

Steering Swivel Joint - New one - 32311150489

Black leather gear stick for 5SPD Manual. Have seen one on a 318is e36 that i quite liked but open to suggestions. I have a wooden one at the moment which is chipped and the whole interior is black leather so...

Also after a mint condition set of door cards in black leather,

    Thanks for the help!

  3. Have got a new hanger and coupling from ADL and are being installing at the moment, seemed to be a difference between the first coupling and the one going in now. Will post a comparison of the two later on when im home. ADL checked the driveshaft too and it was sweet, time will soon tell if the problem reoccurs but will probably get it checked at another driveline specialist this week.

  4. Hi there,

Trying to figure out whats going wrong with the driveline of my 1990 535is manual.

There was vibration and 'clunking' noises about 3 weeks ago, the driveline coupling was replaced and all was fixed and driving smooth, hanger bearing checked at the same time and was visually good but not checked 100% so could have been starting to go possibly.

Until last week suddenly the vibrations re-occured. When they were minor it was jacked up and seen that the coupling was starting to break already, this was about a week ago.

My mechanics been under it today and established the hanger is now broken into 2 pieces and the coupling breaking away.

The gearbox and engine mounts are good.

Was wondering if anyone could give some ideas or shed some light as to what couldve caused the hanger to start breaking down only after the coupling was replaced?

    Any help appreciated,

    Thanks,

    Sam

  5. As for build numbers it seems very hard to find,

Just exactly where the 535is ' were sold is hard to track down, the internet has quite conflicting information, as far as i know America didn't get them but may have just had 535i with a sports option. I think Australia, NZ, UK and South Africa had what is known as a 535is but its hard to say how many were made total, especially seeing that a full motorsport 535i is seen as a 535i sport, which is surely a 535is? Just different badging?

Few places say less than so ever many thousand total, with Australia getting 500 or less?

Cant imagine there's too many around in NZ!

  6. Hi Guys,

Working on a small project and just trying to get any info i can about the E34 535iS.

Below is everything i have come up with so far, anything that can be added would be great, especially if anyone knows the build numbers and markets they were brought into.

    - 3.5L i6 M30 Engine

    - 211HP @ 5700rpm + 305Nm @ 4000rpm

    - 0-100 Stock 7.8Seconds

    - Manual Standard

    - 25% Locking LSD Standard

    - M-Tech Body Kit Standard + Boot Spoiler

    - M-Tech Sports Seats (Leather Optional)

    - M-Tech I or II Wheel (88-89 I, 90+ II?)

    - Sports Suspension, Lower than normal 535i, (bilstein?) , Stiffer Maybe + Better Sways?

    - Polished Rocker Cover?

    - OBC Standard? (not sure exactly)

    - Front Fogs

    - ABS Brakes

    - 2 Way Sunroof Standard?

Any more info is greatly appreciated, maybe even if someone knows how many are around in NZ, theres a surprising amount on trademe at the moment too!

    Cheers,

  7. Hi Everyone!

Just realised that since buying the beast i haven't really posted any pics or information about my 1990 BMW 535IS. So here it is!

All relatively stock, my idea is to slowly bring it back to a bit of its former glory, pics don't look too bad but in reality the body has definitely seen better days and the interior is doing the whole BMW unglueing etc...

Let me know what everyone thinks and also whether anyone might happen to know the history of my particular model? Its in Auckland now but I collected it from Christchurch.

Oh the list of things to do include the roof lining, door cards, drivers seat (small tear), have some simple personalised plates to attach already, looking at getting a few extras such as HIDS, have a carfolie voucher still to use. The toolkit needs some tools too haha. Long term if i decide to keep it and go the extra mile ill be wanting to get the suspension redone as its a bit saggy and loose and if i could have it my way i'd love a respray. (but probably not likely any time soon). And also a nice exhaust tip would be good.

  8. Hi all,

Looking for some advice as to where to source 2 of the rubber driveline donuts, (one between gearbox and driveline).

I've been priced from North Shore BMW $230+gst each and would need to be brought in.

Just wondering if anyone could suggest a place to try or maybe someone has a couple lying around.

    Cheers,

    Sam.

  9. Hi there,

Last night my e34 died when i was driving it, all the lights on the dash started to dim down and the abs light came on and things continuously dimmed and electrics started to turn off until the car shut off. We roll started it and it went for another 30secs or so before doing the same again. Then we jump started it and it lasted about 1minute before doing the same again and its now stranded in remuera haha.

    - Before this happened one of my belts had been slipping a few times a week, needing me to turn the car off and back on to stop the horrendous noise of the belt slipping.

    - The light on the battery is still green so the battery appears to be ok.

    - You can still operate the stereo, windows etc when the cars off.

    - If you turn off headlights for example the dash lights become brighter.

    - A few starts before the car finally carked it you could tell it was becoming harder to start

My feeling is that it would be the alternator, but also wondering whether a ground issue could cause this.

    Any further advice is appreciated,

    Thanks,

    Sam

  10. So here's the diagnosis,

"I got your BMW apart yesterday. The engine had broken 2 rockers & worn the cam shaft badly. However, the good news is the basic lower engine assembly is OK. So below is the parts I need to fix the head & a couple of options.

    Parts:

    1/ 12x rockers $330

2/ Head Gasket Set (complete) $470

    3/ 1x injector ??

    4/ Distributor Rotor ??

    Machining:

    1/ Cut valves & seats $110

    2/ surface head $100

    3/ repair cam shaft $300"

Whats everyones opinions in terms of whether its worth getting it repaired this way or whether i should look at a 2nd hand engine etc...?

    Thanks

  11. Hi there,

My 535is E34 has dropped a valve it seems and could possibly have incurred more damage as a result and im wanting to know peoples opinions on what would be my best option to fix and stop more problems occuring as its getting into high kms now.

Im wondering whether anyone knows what options i would be able to pursue in rebuilding it with getting it all rebored and machined aswell as changing all the gaskets etc... or if anybody can point me towards a reputable person/business to get a quote for this.

Otherwise whether anyone knows of a good low kms condition engine i could swap in without many issues.

Not sure if Hartge Brent may know of anyone to go to.

    Thanks,

    Sam

  12. After driving it a bit more i started to realise that this wasn't going to be a minor problem. Took it to my mechanic and he confirmed what i had thought which is that hes almost certain it has dropped a valve or something along those lines so it looks like its time for the engine to be taken apart which is a bit of a bugger. May want to look at options of rebuilding too.
