  1. Hey Guys,

    Ive managed to fix up cooling system and the AFM and my car has know presented another problem. I was turning left and went to accelerate and car rattled and vibrated. Then pulled over and tried to take off again and noise got even louder and more violent. I got the car home and jacked up the back of it. I put it in gear and let clutch out, i could still hear the noise but was quiet compared to what it was on the road. I have included a video that could have saved you reading all this:

    (you can hear the noise the best from 19 seconds - 30 seconds)

    Might also add - When i brought the car it used to shake quite badly at 100k and i never thought much of it. I got tyres alligned and balance and didnt make a difference. Prior to todays incident the shaking had been alot worse and would even occur at 50k.

    Went for a drive out to kapiti today and about 20m into the trip i noticed my car would struggle to get past 2.5rpm and would be extremely sluggish it has done this before and i never thought much of it. I then stopped at the lights and thrashed it up to 120k and everytime i change gear i would wait until revs reached about 6000rpm. Once i had thrased it for a few minutes my power came back again and everything was as per normal but when i stopped i had to repeat the same process etc.. I have heard that i might be in need of a new fuel filter or is it something else?

    hmmmm :unsure: Do you reckon a bottle of that fuel cleaning stuff that you put in fuel tank should do the tricK?

  4. Hey Everyone,,

    Brought and instaalled some speakers for the e30 yesterday.. Got a chance to test them out today and when putting the stereo on full it turned off. It has done that before (when i only had 2 speakers) and would turn straight back on after 3 seconds. However now its not turning on at all with the 4 speakers. Ive checkd fuse 28 which is apparently radio and ciggarete lighter which is fine. Also ciggarete lighter still works so fuse is defieantly ok. Also the 10 amp fuse on the back on the stereo is ok.

    Any suggestions?

  5. Hey Everyone,

    Got my oil service light reset by the mechanics today and nothing happened, he then mentioned something in the cluster needs replacing then left. I took out the cluster and it stated that the oil service light battery had been replaced in 1994.

    Anyone know where about the battery is and what type it is and how to get to it without causing to much destruction?

  6. Im by no means an expert in E30s, so couldnt tell you anything from the video, but the thermostat is just inside the housing coming off the top hose from the radiator i believe. Should be the same place on your engine as mine, but not certain which hose to follow as I have a different radiator. Front passenger side of the engine however, just in front of the inlet manifold sorta area.

    Sorry about the useless description..

    Cheers guys!! I am fixing up some rust tommorow so i will look into the cooling system once that is complete :) I will update my status and any issues that come along the way


  7. Check the thermostat. Although it may seem that the coolant is hot, it may not be up to running temperature (which is VERY HIGH) and will not register on the gauge. I had a thermostat rusted open and had a similar issue, because that would explain it affecting both the computer and the gauge.

    Running temp from memory is 90ish?

    Mine was running at about 75ish, therefore not registering on the gauge (gauge only shows a small temp range, approx 10 degrees apparently.)

    Thermostat could be likely as water has been sitting ins the car for a few months.. Where a bouts is the thermostat located? Did you have a look at the video and does everything look ok?

  8. I have an 1984 320i Coupe manual and need the following

    1. Rear seats (brown)

    2. Aerial and aerial motor

    3. Rear valance (bit where exhaust pipe goes out

    4. Twin tip exhaust

    5.Boot lock

    6. Remote locking kit

    7. Bonnet Hydraulic shaft (that keeps bonnet from going down)

    8.Drivers side alpine speaker and cover

    9.Getrag 240-m20 manual 5 speed (gearbox only)

    Even if you have 1 of these i will be interested, give me a call and i will sort it out from there.

  9. For a start - the temp gauge sender controls just that - the gauge, nothing else.

    Sender is a single wire unit at the front of the engine

    To test: Earth the wire & the gauge should go to high, open circuit - gauge reads low. If so - sender is faulty

    There is the engine management coolant sensor sitting along side the gauge one - this one a two wire unit.

    The resistance in this unit varies depending on water temp - high resistance when cold & low when hot - around 3k ish ohms cold & around 250 ish when hot

    The fan sensor is in the radiator & the fan is also controlled via air cond circuit

    Heres the video, does everything look ok? I will do your checklist tommorow.


  10. Hey everyone, I brought myself a 320i the other day and have realised it has a problem with the coolant temprature guage on the dash board. I have removed the cluster and i have double checked all wiring connections. When i turn the key to on the guage goes to cold and stays on cold, in saying that the guage is active but the sensor is f**ked!

     

    Anyway i will shortly upload a video of the problem to get a better understanding

     

    1. The car has no idea that the coolant it hot so it idles at 1.5 to keep engine heat (even when its hot)

    2. The engine's electric fan (infront of radiator) never comes on because the sensor isnt working and the car always thinks it cold

    3. The sensor i replaced didnt seem to make 1 difference at all.. There is still a spare wire (as shown in video)

     

     

    Any Help would be much appreciated

    Hi, my car has a few little issues such as

    1. coolant temprature guage not working. The thing is i turn the key to 'on' and the needle goes like .5cm from dead position to cold then i start car take it for a long as drive and needle doesnt move. I replaced the sensor today and still nothing.. any ideas?

    2. When engine runs the valve tappets sound tired. do they need adjusting or replacing? and is it ok to drive like that? also if i was to DIY it what tools (apart from the basics) would i need?

    3. Gearbox needs replacing.. it is manual how hard is it to pull gbox out and replace by yourself?

    wrecking the 4door e30. chassis is de-registered. car is lowered on king springs on the back and red1s (guessing they are jamex) on the front.

    let me no wat parts you need.

    everything is they apart from gearbox. driveshaft and all the other manual conversion bits :P
