  1. Sweet as!!! thanks for the replies! Yeah this sounds like the way to go. Should be a bit of fun......
  2. Hey Guys, So a friend and I are going up to Auckland to pickup a car so he can get it back to Christchurch. I offered to help him out with the Auckland to Wellington part. Firstly, no its not a BMW.... its not even euro.... not even sure if i'm allowed to use the "H word" on this forum. Yes its an integra but a really tidy fresh import type R. We will be leaving auk before 10am so have a whole day to get to Wgtn so thought keen to test out the Honda and put it through its paces and wondering if you Northern folk can recommend the most enjoyable way to cross the north island???
  3. e39 with a custom home-painted flat grey stripe that goes all the way round. mmmmmmmm
  4. I've done this. Just pulled all the trim off and traced the wires back from the steptronic switches. Then just cut them and swapped them around. worked perfectly and quick easy job.
  5. Has anyone from wellington ever spotted my old e46 around???? Pretty noticeable car. Haven't seen it since i sold it - owner lives in hutt valley - not be surprised if its had terminal issues... or been crashed or something Doesn't have the Pplate anymore HCHXXX i think.
  6. +1 Painting the rocker cover is a compulsory step.
  7. There's lots of instructions on how to do it out there. I did it myself on my 325 a couple of years back. Was very straight forward and didn't take very long. However, did it on a toyota a couple of months ago and it was a disaster, i think what i learn't from that is seek advice whether or not to use a silicon compound... (i did and it leaked 1st time- spent the rest of the day cleaning oil off the driveway - didn't use anyting but a bit of oil on the bimmer) and BE SUPER CAREFUL TORQUING THE BOLTS TO THE CORRECT TORQUE, i snapped 2 heads and had to drill out and retap thread - what a mission.
  8. Pretty sure my e46 had the metallized windscreen, had a sort of purple tint to it. Radar used to be fantastic in the work car but useless in the Bmw, also had problems with getting gps signal unless the sunroof was open.
  9. Bet it's your battery dude. BMW's do weird stuff when the battery's on the way out. You haven't driven the 'i' in a while...
  10. +1 to that. My e46 was from singapore.... apart from it being the reason of faded paint and cracked door seals, it obviously degrades the internals of the computers as well.
  11. Looks like power bands come as a set of two, one for power one for torque hahaha http://www.trademe.co.nz/motors/car-parts-accessories/bmw/engines/auction-670742120.htm
  12. This guys also selling "piston return springs" - no more relying on gravity! http://www.trademe.co.nz/motors/car-parts-accessories/performance/carburation-induction/auction-670749706.htm
  13. Want a lowered car but can't afford new suspension/springs?? Seems like the perfect solution. http://www.trademe.co.nz/motors/car-parts-accessories/audi/auction-670737687.htm
  14. One more thing. The stereo was amazing for a "cheap car" stock system. Very impressed.
  15. Hmmm cant say i noticed. I drove a 2011 Corolla wagon [cvt] daily as a work car last year, so kinda used to them. Have to say though, looked pretty ordinary in white. See them round in the blue and that looks ok. Not sure if i'm a fan of the new front end.
  16. I was driving a 2013 corolla for a week or so about a month back. Had about 300ks on the clock. Mine was a 6 speed manual which i have to say was very good. However dynamically it felt quite big and heavy when driving. Small car - easy to park, However lots of space inside - although i too am 6ft 5 and have the seat in a position where you would have to have no legs to fit in the back. Took it for a thrash over the paekakariki hill road (as you do) and it handles not too bad though the corners. Apart from being a bit heavy feeling i felt it was a pretty good car, handled well and cruised well on the mway with plenty of space for all my crap. Not a bad car, would buy if i wanted something boring and fuel efficient.
  17. Best thing to do is to go get a proper code scan. Had this on my 328ci. Turned out to be a brake light switch, cheap as fix. A quick google of that code says vanos/vvti issues??? Not trans....

    E30 320i 1990

Sweet E46 in picture 5, I'd recognise those wonky exhausts anywhere Nice e30 though GLWS
  19. My moneys on coil packs. Best way to find out is to get it scanned
  20. Yeah it does. Sounds like a leak right? Might have to start replacing hoses....
  21. Have double checked all the assembly. It was only removing the 2 bottom hoses and removing intercooler. Didnt really mess around with too much. :/ Cheers, yeah this is looking most likely... any chance we could have dammaged the turbo though? There was quite a bit of oil and crap that came loose and may have rushed though the pipes. Also when we first started it yesterday the engine was flooded so it didnt start smoothly. Hoping for his wallets sake we havent dammaged the turbo....
  22. Hey guys, Spending the weekend at mates batch in Akaroa, naturally we decided to clean out the intercooler on his e46 330D (as you do) he had a couple of seals to be replaced as there was oil leaking from the boost pipes. We changed these and cleaned out the oil from the intercooler with some meths, let it dry and reassembled. However on the road test we noted it popping off the pipe from intercooler -> Turbo at the intercooler with a pshhh sound then also a whining sort of almost whistling sound that sounds like its coming from the turbo. Has anyone got any thoughts on what might be causing this? All the pipes seem tight. All we have done is dropped the intercooler and cleaned. Cheers!
  23. My e36 used to do this. I was told that it was normal for it to be a little bit off balance but also a symptom of warn shock absorbers. Wasn't quite as bad as that though, you could tell if you were looking for it but else it looked normal. At a guess it was probably 3 centimeters MAX out at each side. Its lean seemed to change dependent on how much fuel was in the tanks too. E46 never did this that i noticed... but it was lowered and on bilsteins etc
  24. My mother bought one new in 2006, My brother has it now with about 70,000kms on it and has not had any major issues, and the small issues it has had have been cheap repairs. It got stuck in a sinkhole in the CHCH earthquake and required work on steering and body work, i remember hearing that this was surprisingly cheap luckily as insurance refused cover for some reason. We had the 1.4 petrol model. It is veryyyy gutless, not too enjoyable on the open road as it rings along at > 3k rpm at 100kph in 5th. Still, amazing on gas and its been decently reliable especially considering my brother and i thrash the crap out of it. My mother has now upgraded to a fiat bravo sport 1.4 turbo which i drove down to christchurch for her (bought in wellington) fantastic to drive! I remember at the time being worried it was more fun to drive than the 328ci and muuch better on gas - possibly something to look into? Still a safe and reliable car.....
  25. Can i take a gamble at tony's tires? Have had enough bad experiences there in regards to their thoughtlessness and not keeping their promises (We'll beat any compet price by $10 a tire - good joke)
