  1. I have recently bought a M tech II wheel (e30ftw) and cluster rings (JayCeeE30) for my 325i and finally had the time to install them. While I was searching the net on how to remove the wheel / cluster, came across a pic of an e30 M3 dash and got inspired to paint the needles of my cluster red. Forgot to take a photo of the cluster before I started but I'm sure everyone knows what they look like.. Took the front cover of the dash and installed the rings first Started by masking the base of the needles, in case any red paint spill over to the black plastic Used Tamiya model paint: matte finish, water-based and quite easy to control I applied about 7-8 thin coats Finished and slotted the unit back in place The finish looks awesome and I am very happy with the result. It wasn't as time consuming as I expected it to be too - all up it took less than 3 hours (including drying time and removing/putting everything back)
  2. They are just down the road from where I am, so I went and checked them thinking I could get parts within walking distance. Prices are disappointing, and hearing these experiences above I will definitely avoid them. Will be keen to follow the outcome of the commerce commission.
  3. Yes ignorant and/or blatant disregard to other road users I say. I think those who switch them on in good weather do it deliberately for the ‘cool’ factor. They are worse than having high beams shone in your face (at least those are temporary). I am holding on to the faint hope that one day I would witness a cop pulling one of those tossers over and slapping them with a ticket

Looking good mate, tidy and subtle! Goes quite well with the whole smoked lenses and black grill look.
  5. Driving home tonight my eyes were utterly raped by a SUV with its rear fog lights, having no choice but to follow it for a good 15mins in the traffic. It was an Audi Q7 (the choice of vehicle is a crime itself), which is inline with most offenders out there with their Euros, be it Mercs, VWs or BMWs. Surely a car equiped with rear fog lights have a separate switch to the front fogs, and the driver must know they are on from an indicator on the dash? All the BMWs I've driven have the reverse orange fog indicator.
  6. I was able to get yellow H7 (or could be H3) bulbs for the fog lights of my old car last year at Greenlane Repco, not sure if you have tried them yet. I've got yellow films over my high beams for a while now, went through several check points, had cops in front and opposite me and they were never an issue. 99% of the time the cops have better things to do than pull someone over for yellow tinted lights, unless the car itself has boy-racer mods that attract unwanted attention. I will be getting a VTNZ wof in a months time, will be interesting to see whether they are anal about them.
  7. Haha gold. I think the idea is great, the appearance will need tweaking to make it more commercial, but it is about time BMW has a flagship extravaganza to rival the likes of Bentley GTs.
  8. http://www.stuff.co.nz/motoring/8723109/BM...atures-NZ-kauri Hope they fix up the front a bit if it goes into production, but that is a sexy interior!
  9. Go to Hope Hickman Auto Electrical on Union Street, they are one of (if not) the best and reasonably priced. They also install alarms properly and not half-arsed jobs like many of those that offer installations with budget alarms.
  10. Thanks mate. They are 16s, the E30 and BBS RS is a hard combo to beat!
  11. Thanks Kelvin. That is amazing - how do you obtain those build sheets for the BMW?
  12. That's one mint E34 you've got there. I grew up riding in a E34 and it is sad to say not many remain in this condition anymore, its even got the original stereo!
  13. I plan to black plasti-dip all the chrome on the car once I have the time. I saw some plasti-dip videos on youtube and have been keen to try it since; the results look amazing and almost too good to be true Also have some smoke vinyl tints for the lights sitting around at home. Will be interesting to see how the car will turn out with a blacked out look (if only I have a spare weekend..)
  14. I think the red leather is great - driving a convertible will bring attention to yourself so might as well make the most of it with red leather! Not too sure about the walnut trim though

GL with the manual conversion mate I will be keen to hear your experience about it, especially the auto vs 5-speed comparsion once it is done. Contemplating a conversion myself.
  16. Thanks! When I first got it the car was in quite a sorry state, being exposed to the elements for two decades. It recently had a full restoration and brought back to its former glory Prior to the restoration the paint had faded, damages to the body and surface rust
  17. Some photos of my 325i. It is a 1990 E30 325i with M-Technik package from factory. I bought the E30 off a friend who was the original owner since new. It was first registered in Hong Kong, before being shipped over a coupe of years later with him back to NZ. Other factory extras include leather interior, sunroof and Bilstein suspension (actually I’m not sure whether they come with the M-Technik package). The BBS RS wheels are not factory items, but were ordered by the dealership on behalf of the owner. It is an automatic but I actually don't mind it too much. I can feel the auto box can't fully deliver the engine's full power, but the E30 has been my weekend cruiser only and I can hop into the MX5 for my manual driving. Manual conversion is definitely something I have considered, but I have not seriously looked into it, and I'm also not sure whether the benefits will outweigh the costs (always a subjective debate). I was hoping someone could shed some light on BMWs from Hong Kong- back in the early 90s where do they source their cars from? I suspect they would be shipped from the UK but I am not entirely sure. The speedo and odometer on my car reads miles.
  18. Cheers. I have seen your E30 around Greenlane and Ellerslie a few times before, awesome looking E30 with great street presence. I'm pretty tempted to replicate your French style high beams too.
  19. Hey thanks. I am not sure where it was built actually. It was registered new in Hong Kong and came with both full English and Chinese user manuals. The odometer is in miles and being a RHD I suspect that it may be an UK import. The leather seats are not the Recaro type. I have the original purchase order for the car and it is quite an interesting read. Most features on the car are factory extras and require 'adding on' to the stock 325i, i.e. the Motorsport package, leather interior, sunroof and BBS wheels. I did some guestimates taking inflation into account and the final bill was quite staggering. BMW sure knows how to make their $$.
  20. Hi folks I have been stalking the Bimmersport forum ever since purchasing my first BMW, joined as a member a couple of years ago and am now finally making an introduction post. I like to fiddle around with things but I am not very mechanically minded, so Bimmersport has been a great source of info and diagnosis before talking to my local mechanic. I am currently driving a 1990 325i with Motorsport options. A great car and absolutely my favourite out of the other BMWs I've owned! I acquired the E30 quite a while back from a friend who bought it brand new off the floor of the dealership in Hong Kong in 1990 (and shipped over to NZ 3 years later). I plan to upload a few more photos and provide a bit more on the car in the Showroom section but meanwhile a few of pics I’ve taken while it was in the garage. Cheers!
