  1. I was wanting to "stand" it up to make more room for a turbo. Thanks for the info. Maybe it would be easier to leave it in the 30deg position and mount the turbo lower.
  2. Ok, my steering rack is naffed from an incident with a drunk driver and needs replacement. What is the procedure for doing this? and, can I fit an e36 rack ? Your help is much much appreciated. Regards, Andrew (Call me Andy or Anaru, it may help to differentiate between the other hundred or so Andrew's on here)
  3. Heya, I have a Getrag 260? Gearbox from a pre-fl 325i. I was planning on fitting it to my M20 320i engine to have a bit more fun, and save some petrol. Anyway, since i got it I have begun to think that the M20 is old, tired and only a simple 12 valve. I have also seen a few M42's come up around the place, these seem to be a much better "technically" engine, and I am sure I could milk quite a bit more power out of one quite easily. What I was wanting to know is: 1. Will my Getrag 260 mount to the M42, and will there be any ill effects? 2. If I mount the M42 vertically instead of at 30deg will the factory manifold clear the bonnet? 3. If I mount the M42 vertically instead of at 30deg what will I have to do to make the gearchange still come up in the right place? I could just get a SR20DET for $1500 from an engine importer, but I figure it will be more fun to play with an M42.
  4. Go teh Whaka's !!! My old home town
  5. OK, I brought this not long ago to convert my e30 but I have completely lost interest in my BMW so it would be good to sell it. For sale I have: Getrag 260 Gearbox Manual Driveshaft Clutch Plate Pressure Plate Flywheel Master Cylinder Slave Cylinder Release Bearing Pedal Assembly 1litre Castrol Manual Transmission Fluid All you will need to do this conversion is the hose for the slave cylinder and the bolts for the pressure plate. I paid $750 for it and thats before the slave cylinder and MTF.
  6. Hey, did you change the fluid in the box, and if you did how did you get the plug out?
  7. Unfortunately I am not, I got a conversion kit from Ray the same guy brasvomikewhisky got his from and there are a few bits missing: Slave Cylinder (Ray said not worth re-using) Slave cylinder rubber hose Bolts from Pressure plate to flywheel Nuts to attach slave cylinder to bellhousing Gearknob Pilot bearing Oh, and the rod that fits inside the slave cylinder. Does a new pressure plate come with the bolts to attach it to the flywheel or should I be calling Ray up to ask for them? Thanks for all the info guys!
  8. Hrmm, I got a new slave cylinder for my conversion from BNT but it does not come with the small metal "pin" that is pushed out of it to press against the level that disengages the clutch. Does anyone know where I can get one of these?
  9. Where in Auckland can I aquire a clutch centering tool?? I also need a gear knob, where can I get one that will fit? genuine or not, doesn't bother me I am going to do the conversion on my 1988 320iA/2 this weekend, planning on replacing the thrust bearing, the clutch disc and the selector shaft seals and nylon bushing at the bottom of the shift lever.
  10. A 5lug swap is the best way to go for easy/cheap brake upgrades.Anything from a 318i's 286x12 solid rotors & calipers to E46 330i 325x25 rotors & calipers will bolt on. The rears you are stuck with using 318ti brakes (272x10) unless you go custom. From what you said, it sounds very much like fitting e36 rotors & calipers onto an e30, meaning you would basically have e36 brakes on your e30.I may have misunderstood you, correct me if i am wrong. If rotors & calipers are not considered brakes, than what are? Regards, Andy
  11. I was looking at doing a 5lug conversion on my 1988 320i and contacted BMWarehouse to get the front rotors/calipers from any e36 and the rear rotors/calipers from a e36 318ti, they told me that this conversion is not possible and I would need the e36 hubs/struts. This doesn't sounds right to me, apart from the rotors/calipers and a set of wheels is there anything else needed to do this conversion? Regards, Andy
  12. Ok, I am completely sick of my auto, it has been rebuilt once already and is starting to feel crappy again even though it has been maintained properly. I am looking for the parts required to convert to a 5 speed, and if available a LSD. Regards, Andy 021-131-6649
  13. Ok, my lower control arm bushings on the passenger side need replacing for a WOF as does the left side steering rack bushes, I dont have time due to work craziness so what is a good garage in Auckland to work on these. it would be best if it was near the central city, or around Mount Eden area. Thanks a lot!! Andy
