You also have the unique position of fairly equal usage of Crunchy and what I assume to be your real name (SM), I once heard two people debating whether Crunchy or SM built better turbos.

You helped me out a bundle back in the day when i was a broke ass building a mitsi libero (DECEVR), I'm still grateful to this day.

Yes, that nick name goes back many many years but both the same person.

Glad i could be of help i enjoy helping those in need and no one else on here really knows me so its fun to find out those who take life too seriously.

Still, loving this V12 build i hate main stream everything is a V8 ....zzzzzzzzz

Cheers for the kind words mate :)

Haha imagine the price on one of those! what did you put the v10 in? do you a a video of it running? love the sound of the v10 in the video that i shared with the custom ITB setup. And considering it has 500hp from factory that's not bad at all.

Going into a rusty old E36 sedan and not far off running im paying a few good mates to finish off wiring etc as my business is growing at a rate i cant keep up so time is spent on that.

Mine uses the stock 10x ITB's with stakes and no filters, as for the power ? It is what it is as when done is my tow vehicle for the other toy im building, no its not another BMW wasted time on the last one i built as certain people running a certain series seem to look after their own agendas rather than increase participants.

    Thanks Crunchy.

I would have love to have done the v10 swap into this car though, that would have been awesome.

For what its cost me to do the V10 i think the V12 would be much easier and cheaper, 40k doesnt go far and yet to turn key still the sound should be glorious as it will be for yours.

Either way both are different and kinda over main stream V8 swaps....i feel a Indy Car motor could be interesting ;)

Get the 34 certed for street use...... will give a whole new bunch of people something to ballache about over their smashed avo on toast

Been certed since day it was done, now retired and used as test rig gave up battling wits with geriatrics that ran a certain series that look after their mates.

Have a few new toys in build and not BMW's

Thanks for the heads up CRUNCHY will look into it.

As for e85 i'm sure the latest standalone ecu would be able to be tuned for it if that's what you meant ZERO? and it's just going to be my daily driver nothing crazy plus we don't have e85 down this way. Have heard E85 pulls in more moisture quicker so you have a short self life for this fuel which could be a problem for engine parts. I could be wrong on this though.

I etched primed and painted mine on the outside only, powder coat  shouldnt come off but the heat they use when doing so i dont like same with mag wheels.

    Great progress.

Regarding e85; what I was meaning was if you are going to all the hassle of swapping the whole driveline, converting to e85 is not much more work or cost and gets you cheap horsepower.

Correct E85 does make easy power if you crank the comp ratio, theres min to gain on low comp ratios.

Many of my customers use it and its high maintenance for pumps and fuel system, BP98 is great all rounder without the head aches.

Applications i like to use it in are turbo and 11/1 + comp great way to keep EGT's down.

BP98 & turbo even on the street i can still get away with 30psi and 9/1 , however ive found using E85 making your own is alot more reliable than from the pump i buy it in tins from the supplier for constant rating.

Hey CRUNCHY yeah i figured if people have put v10 into the e46 a narrower v12 shouldn't be an issue.

as for the disscussion about the DOHC head on the v12 the Mclaren F1 engine was basicly two m3 motors bolted to one crank.

The m5X head swap is doable but at what cost, here's a guy that has done it.

Love what your doing it will run really well, dam site easier than the V10 as far as a ecu goes.

  8. Its a big engine plus hair dryer, Vanos is a pain in the butt and as has been outlined its a race car not 10km/hr car sitting in Aucklands peak hour traffic.

Less to go wrong, as for lose of torque?

Pretty dam sure the turbo will make up for that, keep up the good work Garett.

  9. Bunch of work & money thats all it takes :)

I use to do this with my customers then found a cheaper motor that makes a bunch more power with little work its called a

    2J !

Still pretty sure yours will go well look forward to see how long the drive line lives lol

Always fun breaking stuff cause if your not, you need to try harder :)

Post some vids when done mate looking forward to the end result should be epic !

  10. I would first put it on a flow bench, then see how the cam specs relate as not every drop in cam will give a result you expect or even go backwards.

Doing porting is fine art however basic things can be done, polishing to mirror finish is a waste of time i rough the ports with 60/80 grit to create turbulence entering the chamber.

Never touch the lower short radius on the floor of the port its the fastest way to kill flow, the exhaust power is the one that controls overall power and big isnt best.

Port throat behind the valve head to valve dia i would aim for around .88 ratio, measure the valve head dia x that by .88 will give the throat size. Then try to get as much upper roof area to point directly onto the back of the intake valve and reverse for the exh port.

Also taking the head to a pro works too
